- DiggityDugged, on 03/29/2009, -0/+13I've been to Santorini, Mykynos and Rodes. All are breathtaking, but Mykonos was a little underwhelming compared to how friggin amazing Santorini was. It's a city built on top of a sunken sea volcano after it imploded, so just to get to the city from a cruise boat, you either have to take a ski lift up, or walk or ride up about 2000 steps on foot or on donkey.
The city of Santorini itself felt kind of like Escher made a video game. Every single person's front porch is their neighbor's roof, and there's stairs going evvvverywhere in weird directions and paths. I ditched the tour group and just went around getting lost. If it was a game, the collective items would be cats, because there's a bunch on the island but they all hide away in the craziest of hidden corners on the island. It was just so cool visiting that place. Oddly, even though it's incredibly indigent, the one main street along the top most part of the island has some of the richest jewelry in the world. Go figure.
The water on all the Greek islands is second to none, but I remember Rodes in particular being extra kick ass. The beach itself looks like it's out of a romance movie and I'm sure plenty are filmed there on one of its dozens of beaches next to mountain cliffs. And, hey, the occassional nude beach doesn't hurt either! :)
These are all places everyone needs to see at least once. Rome + Greek Islands = perfect two week vacation. - ddogfilm, on 03/28/2009, -1/+11beautiful pics!
- tonmil, on 03/29/2009, -1/+9I like the island of Andros. It is where a lot of the Greeks vacation. It's near Mykonos. My favorite place to stay is Hotel Perrakis. Great family owned hotel with the best food in Greece. http://moz.pair.com/
- dawnskarma, on 03/29/2009, -1/+7WOW! Absolutely Gorgeous!!
- bababooey141, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6Mediterranean, here I come!
- fcbarca8, on 03/29/2009, -0/+6I visited Mykonos this past summer. Absolutely gorgeous, just as these pictures show.
- nickp2943, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5I strongly recommend to visit: Mykonos and Santorini, beautiful landscapes, amazing food WONDERFUL people. really fabulous vacation.
- adammharvey, on 03/29/2009, -0/+5i was wondering how this was digg worthy, but then i took a look at the pics and def. breathtaking.
- thepicklebot, on 03/30/2009, -0/+4You really have to see the Greek Islands to know the colour of the light
- MatsHG, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4I´ve been to Greece. It´s really beautiful down there. You should visit.
- waydee, on 03/29/2009, -0/+4For real, Malia is completely off limits to anyone with more than two braincells to rub together.
- vak1982, on 03/30/2009, -0/+3If you're a historian, you should say Constantinople,not Istanbul.
- borez, on 03/29/2009, -1/+4I went to Malia in Crete and it was the worst holidays I've ever had, it's full of British ( I'm British myself ) chav yobs who drink, watch football, have fights, drink more, get rowdy and lie on the beach like beached ***** whales all day. A real taste of the uber worst of British working class culture abroad. I got ripped off, treat like ***** by the locals, I had a case of dysentery, the food was ***** and the accommodation ( in the middle of a building site ) was the worst I've ever experienced and wasn't helped by the couple on one side ***** all the time, and the family on the other constantly fighting. It was truly ***** awful.
That place is not recommended... Period. And FTR it looks nothing like anything in those photos. Can't speak for the other Greek resorts, but that one's a barren, hot, horrid, wasteland garbage dump. - borez, on 03/29/2009, -1/+4Speak for yourself mate
- keitarofujiwara, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Three years in a row now. For me it is the best when the beauty of nature and beauty of culture are in symbiosis. The mix of these is just so much better than just pure nature. Also, their food is awesome.
- chuckdraws, on 03/29/2009, -3/+5Actually yes, his father actually is gay. SO technically he doesn't have more than one, but he has two father figures.
- kpasc, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2sooooo if he took one then he probably took all of them? otherwise why would it show up on Flickr under someone else's photostream..?
- mlmorg, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2great shots. i'm a little annoyed that you got great sunsets while you were there and i didn't!
- Estoye, on 03/29/2009, -0/+2Well, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants definitely ruined these photos for me...
- sdiama, on 08/22/2009, -0/+2I live in Crete and I must suggest to avoid July and August for vacations in Greek islands. Prefer June and September. Better weather, better prices and better service everywhere. Especially August??? Stay away.
- jomertz, on 03/29/2009, -1/+3It is really close actually. Athens from Istanbul, is an 1 hour flight. You can go to Turkey by boat, from the Greek island of Samos (and from elsewhere) or you can take a cruise to the greek islands and the coastal Turkey.
Oh, and I think that Byzantine history is quite an interesting subject. - borez, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2I went all around the island in a hire car, same ***** to be honest.
- zachlac, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1Wow, it's funny when I went to Santorini I ended up with almost EXACTLY the same pics...
It's a beautiful place, absolutely stunning pics. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1this is in crete: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lake_Voulismeni. ...
- PrometheusPV, on 03/29/2009, -2/+3I don't see any youth riots or corrupt politicians...
- cielya, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1gor~geous.
- jomertz, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1The price for a round trip flight should be round 350$. And the length of the flight is 1h20m!
- Noiseache, on 03/29/2009, -1/+2The life there is also very slow, on many islands there are no vehicles - just animals.
- roxyland98, on 03/31/2009, -0/+1These photos are likely untouched and I know this because I also visited Santorini. WYSIWYG.
- tolgafiratoglu, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1the same beautiful houses and coasts exist also in south of Turkey. See Bodrum, Marmaris, Cesme and Fethiye.
- Joshper85, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1MYKONOS!!!! beep beep beep beep!!!!
- EmailAddress, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1where's a zip file with all of them!!
- Arramol, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1I've been thinking about traveling to Greece, although mostly to see some of the archaeological sites at places like Athens, Mycenae, and Knossos. Can anyone who's from there tell me how hard it is to cross over into Turkey? I'm something of an amateur Byzantine historian and would love to visit Istanbul as well if I make it that far, but I don't know if that would require taking too much time away from Greece.
- Mattwdj, on 03/29/2009, -2/+3I guess there is no shortage of blue and white paint if Greece.
- Arramol, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the reply. How is it as far as customs and all that? If it's not much hassle, it'd definitely be worth an hour flight to see the Hagia Sophia and what's left of the Theodosian walls.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+1lots have adsl nowadays.
- thepicklebot, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1Great shots, I went to Kefalonia for my honeymoon, already loved the islands before that, now they have an indelible place in my perspective.
- tolgafiratoglu, on 03/30/2009, -0/+1You can't finish visiting Istanbul in 2-3 days it's full of history.
Ottoman, Byzantium historical places and current joy of a 15 million metropol.
More: Istanbul is a historic name. It comes from Greek, it means "to the city.". - FunkyMonkCP, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1Back in 2006 I went on a vacation to Greece. We visited Athens, Mykynos and Santorini. Santorini is quite amazing, it was my favorite of the three. I don't normally like secluded places without a broadband internet connection but man, Santorini is amazing and peaceful. It's easy to get lost on Santorini, there are stairs everywhere. Seems like everybody takes similar pictures when in Santorini because we took almost the same photos and I've seen similar ones a lot of other places on the net. Go to Santorini, you won't regret it.
- inactive, on 03/29/2009, -0/+0Malia is a Cheap resort for 18-30 year old Brits of low income.
If you went near in Elounda you'd see where the money is. - inactive, on 03/29/2009, -4/+4i heard british tourist are the worst , ask anybody from Spain

- Soave, on 03/29/2009, -1/+1Hah, pretty sure that thumbnail picture is the exact same building as a picture that came as a default picture on my Verizon cell phone.
- dakgoblue, on 07/02/2009, -0/+0Really wonderful pictures! And for you animal lovers, if you want to see what the cats of Greece and the Greek Islands are up to, check out http://thegreekcat.blogspot.com/.
- nraphael, on 03/30/2009, -0/+0"colour of the light"
you're a real physicist aren't you. - s4g4n, on 03/29/2009, -4/+3Yeah but whats the internet speed there? By the looks its probably very slow.
- worseforwine, on 03/29/2009, -5/+3Wow, Greece looks like it would be a great place to visit! (If only the people didn't smell so bad)
That is a joke! Everyone knows it is the Turks who smell bad. - chuckdraws, on 03/29/2009, -6/+4One of my friend's dads actually took the one that's on the top right.
