- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -3/+35Is there a GTA4 killing hookers ride?
- acrodev, on 06/18/2008, -2/+31They've had shooting in the Disneyworld Toy Story ride for a while now. You ride around the track in a teacup-like cart and shoot monsters that fly by on the screens along the walls. It's keeps your score and is definitely worth checking out, even though it's tucked in the kids section near Pooh's Ride. Think of it as a 3d duck hunt with aliens.
- amanilaenvelope, on 06/18/2008, -1/+22yeah its called "taking a trip to south L.A."
- xkorbin, on 06/18/2008, -1/+19It sucks major ass as they don't register headshots... and every time I am in that damn ride someone is always looking at me when I scream BOOM HEADSHOT.
I don't think I'm doing anything abnormal? - superflydugg, on 06/18/2008, -2/+19I love Disney world, but I've always been disappointed there is nothing on the Kingdom Hearts franchise. I want a keyblade, not a pirate sword!!!
- nathos, on 06/18/2008, -0/+12You're thinking of Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters (AKA Space Ranger Spin at Disney World): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Lightyear_%28att ...
This is a new attraction based on classic midway games and featuring the full Toy Story cast. - Deetman, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8Some Diggers probably are "ho-hum" about the ride, at least the public view of it. I think many a digger would be VERY interested in the technology running the ride behind the scenes. It truly is impressive seeing all the stuff behind the scenes. Its unfortunate that there probably won't ever be an article on it since the whole ride system is Disney proprietary.
- nmanguy, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8I wonder if Jack Thompson will start hating on Disneyland now...
- toeMas, on 06/18/2008, -0/+8Why can't they just make Tron into a ride?
- B3000, on 06/18/2008, -0/+6I hope this doesn't actually lure more people to California Adventure. I love C.A. precisely because it is empty. By mid-afternoon Disneyland becomes a jam-packed, shoulder to shoulder, unruly mob of big fat ***** and it is so awesome to go right across the street and have a whole Disney theme park practically all to yourself. I don't care if the rides aren't as good, to me it is so much more enjoyable.
- Rabbittt, on 06/17/2008, -5/+11"Bring money."
- youRrich, on 06/18/2008, -0/+6I went on the ride last Thursday and it is actually really fun; a lot more fun than Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, anyway. The 3D effects make it enjoyable, such as rockets blasting out at you when you shoot a ring on it, and it's fun shooting everything and comparing your score to your partner's. The only thing that hurt when I walked off was the arm sore I had from pulling the string to shoot the ammo.
- TheBead, on 06/18/2008, -2/+8Sounds similar to the Buzz Lightyear ride in DisneyLand.
- TiMMY8765, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5yeah real gamers hang out by the arcade at the exit to space mountain. or atleast that's what I did when I got tired of that aerosmith ride.
- acrodev, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4Maybe it's because you were camped out in the shadows by the side of the track.
- RafiParrr, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4I remember back some ten years ago at Epcot, they had this huge room full of Sega Saturns and PCs hooked up with just about every kind of game playing, and you could go in there and play them for hours with no one yelling at you about it. They've been "appealing" to video gamers for a while now.
- AceDaPig, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4That would be hell for me. No explosions, no loud surround sound, no blood and gore. So basically any Nintendo game...
- thatsmyaibo, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3No, $66 for an adult and I have an annual pass which is $129. I go about once a month and I pretty much get in for $11 everytime I go.
As for the new Toy Story ride...I went on it today and it is pretty awesome. It is an interactive ride in the "4D" so it shoots you with water and air to simulate the game. As a gamer, I really enjoy it. Like the Buzz Lightyear ride, it makes it competitive. I always beat my girlfriend and rub it in her face...she hates me for it. - MadHarvey, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3There's also Disney Quest-- a huge freaking building full of video games. Some of the them are pretty neat virtual reality games. That might appeal to people who like video games, but I dunno...
- amanilaenvelope, on 06/18/2008, -2/+5The only "video gamers" they're gonna attract are the ones who play the leap frog learning game thing.
- xkorbin, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3To answer the taglines question: Utter *****.
- Mossman85, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3I was on this ride last weekend. Think of it as playing your Nintendo Wii with a Wii zapper on a maze of giant screens but your seat is moving and it's in 3D. To make it difficult, there are certain parts where you will be distracted. Balloons will block your vision, and real water will start to sprinkle on you. The balloons will pop and a shot of air will hit your face which is pretty cool. Here's a video of the full ride.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_ZCrf6m9OU - McMaster88, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3cause CA adventure is lame...
- kbir007, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3I was there today and didn't go on it due to the 5 hour wait!
- Grimdotdotdot, on 06/18/2008, -1/+4"What do you get when you combine a shoot-'em-up video game with an amusement park ride?"
That sub-game in the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy 7. - kurtisnelson, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2It is an excellent ride, and the technology behind it is amazing. There are over 50 HD screens that are displaying 3D footage in real time. Takes a huge pile of computer power.
- PoSSeSSeDCoW, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2This might appeal to me, if, you know, going to Disneyland / California Adventure didn't cost more than a full price video game.
- DukeMojo, on 06/18/2008, -1/+3"What do you get when you combine a shoot-'em-up video game with an amusement park ride?"
CarnEvil? - Slayerdude51982, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Umm they already have something to attract gamers, it's called Disney Quest, top two floors all arcade games and free.
- SquishyMon, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2There used to be a Tron tunnel in the Peoplemover ride at Disneyland, I can remember there being screens with scenes from Tron showing and what I think was the voice of the MCP.
- bruin8uclap, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Had a sneak peak for hotel employees last Saturday. The ride was fun when there was no line to wait in, and we rode it twice in a row. Then later they opened the ride up to "common folk". I don't think I'd have liked it as much if I had to wait longer than 30 minutes. The difference between this ride and the Buzz Lightyear ride is that you can actually see the projectiles you are firing. Oh, and your arm gets really tired from pulling on the string that fires the projectiles. Plus to exit the ride you must go up a flight of stairs then back down again (why they make you do this only god knows). I can see fatties having trouble on this ride.
- kurejibitch, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2My friends went to Disneyland on opening day for the ride today... waited in line stretching across the entire park for 3 and a half hours, were 45 minutes before getting to ride, and BOOM -- ride broke down. :P
...luckily, the ride was fixed some time later and they got front-of-the-line passes, but still. Ouch. (And sorry to say, I'm not nearly excited enough to stand in line that long for a three second shooter arcade. Actually, I don't think I'd stand that long in line for ANY ride...) - irvin666, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Kinda reminds me of the movie "Clifford." Is the ride going to be anything like that? That dinosaur ride where Clifford uses a gun to shoot things.
- inactive, on 06/18/2008, -2/+4Video gamers are too smart to fall for it. Why wait in a 2 hour long line surrounded by tour groups in florescent shirts.
- teruterubouzu, on 07/01/2008, -0/+1Here's one article about it:
http://digg.com/hardware/Disney_s_Toy_Story_Mania_ ...
"All of that immersive gaming may be a blast, sometimes literally. Yet Midway Mania has a serious side that makes all the fun and games possible. According to Jody Gerstner, Walt Disney Imagineering’s executive director of show and ride controls, the attraction runs on one of Disney’s most advanced automation systems to date. Built primarily around components from one of its corporate partners, Siemens Energy & Automation, the system marks the first time Disney has used industrial Ethernet in a ride control application. “We’ve done show controls over Ethernet before, but those don’t involve moving people around,” Gerstner says." - sonicularulus, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1rode this yesterday. its an amazing ride. i guarantee it.
- xjeffx, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I rode it a week ago. It's actually pretty fun. I didn't like the Buzz Lightyear one but this ride/game is pretty entertaining.
- mountchuck, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I rode the version at Disney World last week and it's a very cool ride. It's like a giant Wii game in 3D and very immersing.
- oblique63, on 06/18/2008, -1/+2no 'Metal Gear Disney' = not interested...
- Bigbro69, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Like the Wild West Shoot Out at Drayton Manor in the UK. I enjoyed that a bit.
http://tinyurl.com/69ggxt - ghobad, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I went to the opening of this ride in Orlando, it was really funny.
- rebz, on 06/18/2008, -1/+2Disney had rides that "lured gamers" much before this. Four or five years ago I was at Disneyworld and remember a very fun Buzz Lightyear ride where you and your partner in the ride held toy lasers and shot at targets throughout the entire ride. It had the typical "take your picture to sell you for $20 afterwards", and it even displayed you and your partner's scores on a TV to view for bragging rights later.
(Whoops - this was two comments in. Glanced over it.) - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1if they are trying to attract more people to california adventure.. its not about the rides.. and you don't need to "lure" gamers to get more people.. a simpler equasion would be to stop closing the park at 7pm in the summer. Teens, and adults like amusement parks at night (i'm not refering to parents) if you look at the park info for how many people are there during the day vs the night.. you'll find more people there when the sun goes down. Stay open after the sun goes down and the people will go.
- jamesdew, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1They have a ride you can shoot little lights on monsters in Alton towers in the UK, its quite fun.
- cordellray, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1yep, there's a 3-D shoot-em game called "Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold" in there. It's not a moving ride, but still fun. You're surrounded by screens on 3 sides of a little ship that holds about 5 people...one person steers the ship through the virtual ocean, and everyone else has a little cannon to shoot virtual ships on the 3-D screens.
This game is in the DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney, Disney World. - inactive, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Rail gun?
- Charlotte_Web, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Because who wouldn't love to "pop a cap in da ass" of a beloved children's movie character?
- Ansem, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this is amazingly dumb.
- schneb, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1So much for Walt's vision of educating while entertaining. The new mantra is "amusement", which comes from the Greek to "not think". Disneyland was never to be an "amusement park", but rather a "theme park". Walt made that very clear, and would NEVER have allowed this advertisement/video game attraction.
Latest ads - Submarine ride is now "Finding Nemo", "Buzz Lightyear Blasters", and now, "Midway Mania". Gone are such educators as "Carousel of Progress" and a burning cabin to illustrate the difficulties for the early pioneers. Now we have a pristine cabin that all was wonderful and happy. - mlvassallo, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1I understood your post. The title is worded strangely. Why would Disney seek to "lure" inanimate objects? Har.
