- bmovers, on 08/12/2009, -1/+54Should have called it "population density of Manhattan"
Last I checked Brooklyn was part of NYC - osabek, on 08/13/2009, -0/+17This graphic has so much room for improvement. It doesn't have a view of the Upper East/West sides of Manhattan which should show a higher population density at night. It also doesn't give a good view of Queens and Brooklyn...
- bjs74, on 08/12/2009, -2/+10the freaks come out at night...
- inactive, on 08/13/2009, -1/+9Day 'n' nite I toss and turn, I keep stressin' my mind, mind
- Tirako, on 08/13/2009, -0/+7See every single Starbucks settlement in Manhattan of course!
- danthek54, on 08/13/2009, -3/+9ok once and for all ***** staten island the only things that came from there were guido douche bags, a trash dump, and girls that say 'gawd'
- KibblesnBitts, on 08/13/2009, -0/+6Welcome to Digg - when you make comments, contribute to the article at hand, do not say anything offensive or just plain stupid. You made the latter error, but as you just joined the website today, it's just a rookie mistake. Don't let the potential buries you can receive shy you away from Digg. It's a useful website in which you can find out about news articles before they're mainstream or funny videos/pictures.
Cheers! - yttrstein, on 08/13/2009, -1/+6Brooklyn is an outer borough. It's in a different county as well. Manhattan is deemed by all residents of all boroughs (including Manhattan) as "the city".
- KibblesnBitts, on 08/13/2009, -0/+5Washington DC has to be just as extreme, the entire city is abandoned after 5 or 6 - and on fridays and saturdays, only Dupont and Adams Morgan has any life
- killscreenes, on 08/13/2009, -2/+6Pfft, and they call it "The City That Never Sleeps."
- yttrstein, on 08/13/2009, -0/+4Obviously while you live in Brooklyn, you're not a native. You people cant help but stand out like sore thumbs.
- v10sparco, on 08/13/2009, -2/+6isn't brooklyn part of new york city?
- theOster, on 08/13/2009, -0/+4maybe a tenth, sure...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Brooklyn_Highlig ... - likeyehokwhatev, on 08/13/2009, -1/+5Bring a camera to wall street, start taking pictures of infrastructure, and get tazed by the NYPD.
- Azdak, on 08/13/2009, -1/+5What's your mailing address say?
It says Brooklyn, NY - YouandWhoseArmy, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3It is a documented fact that - even after consolidation in 1898 - Manhattan has simply been called 'the City' by NYC natives. Go back to Kansas.
- sanosuke001, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3it's to scale; it's just logarithmic
- BigLou, on 08/13/2009, -1/+4Interesting graph. Can't wait to go there for the first time this November. Digg users: what should I do? What should I see?
- JROXZ, on 08/13/2009, -1/+4Only borough that can't be distinguished due to large hipster population...
- kazimir22, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3I look for peace but see I don't attain
- rrotate, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3Look at my west village, staying strong and flat!
- SteaminTmann, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3Umm. That's Roosevelt Island.
- YouandWhoseArmy, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3Which is a direct reference to the fact that Brooklyn is the only other Borough to be its own city before consolidation. If you wrote your address as 123 fake st, New York, NY 112** it would be perfectly correct and go to Brooklyn. (for those of you that don't know, every brooklyn Zip begins in 112)
Additionally, most people don't write Queens, NY because Queens was never its own city. They write Flushing, NY or Forest Hills, NY. Which are the original town and village names before Queens county was consolidated into NYC. - tpizz, on 08/13/2009, -0/+3Rikers Island is a jail. where are you from? just blowing hot air, are you?
- fafafafred, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2I like the other one better.
- BigLou, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2I loved that mini-docu.
- niradg, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3bridge & tunnel FTL
- Dollfacekilla, on 08/12/2009, -1/+3"Scuttles?"
- Pseudorious, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3Rikers Island is a jail and its population probably does rise at night.
That said, it's off of LaGuardia and not on the map. - Kuroneko, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2Whats with the red bar underneath the map on the right? o_O Underground cities :o
- tpizz, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2Why does the population rise at night? Is there an inmate club complete with open bar and dj? Do they host socials with other prisons? Inmates stay there; staff ie: doctors, discharge planners, correction officers, cooks, guards, janitors, maintenance crews and other general staff go home. Inmates are locked in a cell, less staff members are required to be on call.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rikers_Island - RegularUser, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3Innacurate.
1. Only part of NYC is shown.
2. Rikers Island's popultion rises at night. - Elranzer, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3Mailing addresses:
Manhattan = New York, NY
Brooklyn = Brooklyn, NY
Queens = Queens, NY
Bronx = Bronx, NY
Staten Island = Dumps don't get mailing addresses - oda1, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2Travis Bickle: All the animals come out at night - whores, skunk pussies, buggers, queens, fairies, dopers, junkies, sick, venal. Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. I go all over. I take people to the Bronx, Brooklyn, I take 'em to Harlem. I don't care. Don't make no difference to me. It does to some. Some won't even take spooks. Don't make no difference to me.
- ross., on 08/13/2009, -0/+2Why is "high" 10 times bigger than "medium" which is only twice as big as "low".
I hate when people make graphs not to scale to make changes seem much more dramatic. - Elranzer, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3Too bad "infographic" isn't a real word.
- MtheoryX, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2What happens on Sundays that's so damn important?
- YouandWhoseArmy, on 08/13/2009, -2/+4*sigh* here is the real link...
http://digg.com/environment/Graphic_New_York_Citie ... - likeyehokwhatev, on 08/13/2009, -0/+2Yeah, tourists... and everyone else who lives in the city and goes out at night, which is everyone.
- alanocu, on 08/12/2009, -1/+3Very interesting graphic. I'd like to see this presentation for my hometown - Boston. I doubt it's as extreme as Manhattan, but commuters arrive in mass during the daylight hours.
- ihavebeenseen, on 08/13/2009, -1/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_WI0VI7aIw
- williemain, on 08/13/2009, -1/+2There are still a lot of people there! Have you ever been there? It's soooooo crowded!
- inactive, on 08/13/2009, -1/+2Just noticed I manged to spell Infographic without using the letter I. I was sober this time as well :/
