- maqikelefant, on 04/13/2009, -0/+22Dugg for Costa Rica. I went there my junior year of high school, and I can't even put into words how amazing of a trip it was, between illegal boat rides into Nicaragua, watching lava flow down the side of the active volcano we were staying at the base of for a couple nights, or seeing an extremely rare albino howler monkey while I zip-lined through the rain forest. And those are just a few of the incredible experiences I had down there.
Plus, the Costa Rican people are amongst the kindest and most polite people in the world, easily. A buddy of mine ran out of money to buy some liquor from a grocery in San Jose, and a local peasant covered him out of their own pocket. That would NEVER happen in 99% of the countries in the world. Costa Rica is a truly wonderful country, and I would highly recommend that everyone go there at least once in their lifetime. Now I just need to figure out when and how I can make it back there. - ThinkBox, on 04/13/2009, -3/+19As long as I dont have to sleep in coach!
- tomakun, on 04/13/2009, -0/+10Costa Rica is by far my favorite place to visit, much better than places like Hawaii or Europe. This is mosly because it is cheap, full of awesome places to hike, and not overrun with tourists. Plus Ticos are extremely nice and very welcoming even to foreigners. Visiting there was seriously a life-changing experience.
- casspa, on 04/13/2009, -2/+9Might be the coolest hotel I've ever seen.
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+6I just got back a week ago, and I whole heartily agree. A week there is like 20 once in a lifetime opportunities. We climbed up roots of a strangler fig a hundred metres up a shear cliff (If you've been to estacione biologica in monteverde, you know the tree I'm talking about.) with no saftey harnesses or ropes, ziplined through the woods, saw the two most dangerous insects in the world and argued with a troop of howler monkies, all the while hiking 10 hours a day in search of a resplendent quetzal and the horrifying hard to catch canopy wallowtails and swimming in waterfalls all over.
- consciousman, on 04/13/2009, -0/+5you need to check out the strip club called "Tango Indio" in Costa Rica.. Is a strip club inside of an airplane..
- inactive, on 04/13/2009, -1/+6Turning it into a hotel was easier than hauling the wreckage out of the forest.
- sekramer, on 04/13/2009, -3/+8I want to go to there.
- consciousman, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Costa Rican people are soo innovative...
- maqikelefant, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Those are pretty much my thoughts exactly. It's even got some decent surfing, a drinking age of only 18, and like you mentioned, the American dollar goes a looooong way. I took a (mostly) guided vacation, being shuttled around the country in a bus with the guides, stopping whenever and wherever we wanted. The guides were amazingly knowledgeable, funny individuals. Carlos and Juan Carlos were their names...I miss those guys now. I'd highly recommend a guided vacation for most people. It makes everything so much easier in so many different ways.
So where did you go when you were there, tomakun? The only other people I've talked to who have been to Costa Rica are the people I went with, so I'd really like to know what your favorite places and parts of your vacation(s?) were. Reason being, when I do finally make it back there, I'd like to do pretty much a completely different set of things than I did the first time around. Maybe go back to a couple of places, but you get the drift. Pura Vida! - Brandynp, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4http://digg.com/travel_places/Boeing_747_200_Jumbo ...
- tomakun, on 04/13/2009, -0/+4Seriously amazing, some of the best food I have ever had was in Costa Rica. Plus it's inexpensive. You can sit down at an ocean front restaurant and get a steak for about 12 bucks.
- mikemehak, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3looks cool, but the idea of getting on a plane, flying to costa rica... waiting for your flight to end and get to your hotel... another plane. Then finishing your vacation in a plane and going to catch another plane.
Too much planes and sleeping on planes. Sounds like the exact reason I stopped traveling for work... - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+34 8 15 16 23 42

- MTRdigg, on 04/13/2009, -2/+5If you can't stay in the airplane make sure to eat in one at El Avion near Manuel Antonio. Awesome place. http://www.costaverde.com/avion01.htm
- tomakun, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3I think this might be at the Costa Verde in Manuel Antonio. They had a plane that looked like this up on scaffolding when I was there last summer.
- jacobo, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3lol yes,, there are a lot of airplanes here
http://www.costaverde.com/pgallery/el_avion_2.jpg - josepablob, on 04/13/2009, -0/+3Hurricanes rarely get to Costa Rica, you can only see secondary effects like lots of rains and floods in the caribbean coast. This is in the pacific coast.
- alostreflection, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2this is definitely the thread where comments go to die.

http://www.satellite-sightseer.com/id/1426 - inactive, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2I wonder what the cockpit looks like. Maybe they replaced the 2 seats with raised toilets. That would be awesome!
- BossKey, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2You can buy a boxed sandwich for $5
- babyheadout, on 04/13/2009, -0/+2How's the food?

- Nardrino, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1If you were having a nightmare, waking up to this would not help
- marshallpeck, on 04/13/2009, -1/+2Seems unsafe in a hurricane.
- AtomicTheory, on 04/13/2009, -0/+1Buried for "Inaccurate".
There isn't an airplane-hotel built inside this airplane. That would consist of one airplane, with another airplane inside, which would contain the hotel. The title should just read "Costa Rican Airplane Hotel" or "Airplane Hotel built in Costa Rica" or "Hotel inside of Airplane inside of Costa Rica" or "Airplane Hotel in Costa Rica just got built" or some jibberish like that. - wjlaw100, on 04/13/2009, -4/+4From the looks of it, you could join the 300 ft High club!
- campigenus, on 04/13/2009, -1/+1Whoosh ...
