I'm in Mountain Infantry, and have never tanned as fast as on a glacier, because the sunlight is reflected onto you from all sides. Although I think a couple of em might actually just black.

    and extremely tan? well, i can only say that you probably haven't seen too many photos of mountaineers on long expeditions, because that's fairly normal. more so in the earlier days when they spent even more time up there.

    And the shadow of the pole is correct also - the plane it lies on is at 90 degrees to the plane of the man's shadow. Sheesh.
