- storstygg, on 07/15/2009, -0/+10I agree with the NOW DYING thing. Just like how Coney Island used to be the premo resort area in NYC... only to be left behind to rot once air travel made Florida (or anywhere else) cheaper to get to.

They actually make it seem even worse than it really is, which I didn't think possible.

Yes... but obviously some have more that others, and in greater levels of severity. - TRWolf, on 07/16/2009, -0/+1I still adore Blackpool, and go there now and then for the day, but I agree that it's definitely dying because of all the abroad travel. The taxi driver is right, there's loads to see and do, but thats only usually during the weekend as its dead during the week, but he's also right that the adult sides of Blackpool are putting the families off, however the stag/hen (bachelor/ette) parties around Blackpool and the drinking culture are the only things Blackpool can make money on now. The owner of the Queens Hotel is right though in a way, ie, it's having a LOT of regeneration which will improve it... however, I dont see it bringing the crowds back THAT much.

- geezer466, on 07/16/2009, -2/+0Some real saddo comments here. Blackpool is what you make of it. Yes it has it problems but so does every other UK town. Look at the anti social behaviour at throwing out time in Aylesbury or Oldham or indeed Padstow.
The lure of seasonal work drew in the low paid from all over the north of England. Being low skilled meant they are/were more likely to be drug users whilst younger and alkies when older. The council are now working to shift them all back to whence they came which will be the same towns the doomsayers hail from.
