- paker, on 05/10/2008, -2/+17With gas at $3.65 + I'll look at the scenic picture of the article.
- dondara, on 05/10/2008, -0/+13Must be tough being 10 years old these days. Run along sonny, power rangers is on.
- jkleinfeld, on 05/10/2008, -2/+14Wonderful article just in time for this summer's astronomical gas prices
- jackspade, on 05/10/2008, -0/+11unfortunately you're too busy looking at the road to avoid potholes.

- Maddoktor2, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8Dude, it's Saturday. Watch some cartoons.
- KazamaSmokers, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8mOOps you're a silly boy looking for attention.
- AManWithNoName, on 05/10/2008, -3/+13Great! Now I know where to go if I ever get a car and free time, and if gas prices go back to a reasonable level!
- bbqsalad, on 05/10/2008, -1/+8hike or bike instead.
- mwhatley, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6This is the first article in awhile that promotes using gas.
- Nerfdude, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7it's worth 4 a gallon to cruise the PCH. just awesome.
- nullvariable, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5m00ps...meet my block button!

- LoudMusic, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5Blue Ridge Parkway - Family tour of the east coast, 1990. Spectacular drive.
Hana Highway - haven't been to Hawaii yet.
Highway 1 - Girlfriend and I, tour of the west coast in 2004. Spectacular drive.
Highway 12 - Lap of Utah with dad, 1999. Impressive - but to get to Arches from the rest of the parks you're kind of locked in to H-24, and that's hours of sheer boredom. Be sure to make a pit stop at Goblin State Park.
Going-to-the-Sun Road - 2007 with my wife. Take a convertible - it's amazing.
Million Dollar Highway - I have not driven 550, but it's pretty hard to go wrong in the Colorado Rockies. Even I-70 is spectacular.
Red Rock Scenic Byway - It's on the To-Do list.
Seward Highway - Also on the To-Do list.
Sonoma and Napa Valleys - Napa Valley was a hoot. 2008 with friends.
U.S. Route 1 - New England won't be for a while, but I'm going to drive all over that dirt. - Number23, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4Soo... You've never been to Allentown.
- 471776, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4Somebody forgot to take their prozac this morning.
- Fabozz, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4You fail at math.
If your car gets a crappy 15 highway miles per gallon and gas costs you $4 a gallon, you can take a four-hour scenic drive at 50 MPH for $53. Any ONE of the things you listed--a dozen roses, a nice dinner for two, or a show--costs at least $53, and generally much more. Just two show tickets can cost you many times that--the cheap seats at Corteo start at $65. For $130, you can drive the entire 469-mile length of the Blue Ridge Parkway!
See, where your ignorance trips you up is that you don't realize the cost of gasoline is factored into the price of all those things you listed. Roses, the food in your dinner, and the cast, crew and sets of that show are for the most part not produced locally but instead shipped in. - Sethbacca, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3Kancamangus Highway through the White Mountains in New Hampshire is AWESOME! :)
- alimighty1, on 05/10/2008, -1/+43.65? I just paid 3..89 the other day, lucky

- nitriletiger, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3You could bike through highway 1, Its an excellent ride and you don't have to pay for gas! The picture shown is of bixby bridge and there are many more places that look like that along the way.
- haterrade, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Again
-your cars get better mileage
-your society has developed dependable mass transit systems
-destinations are MUCH closer together (seriously, go to Los Angeles, and you'll see what I mean) - buckrogers1965, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2The Day? It's Saturday.
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2I like Wyoming. Haven't been there in 20 years though.
I really like huge open spaces. Alaska and Hawaii are amazing too. - Typhoon2009, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2There are some nice places in Maryland and Virginia as well.
- Technopundit, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Carjack your way across the USA! It's the REPUBLICAN WAY!!!
- dondara, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2So, p00ps, did you just get up on the wrong side the bed this morning or did your dad pull out early?
- breezytrees, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2it's worth $4 a gallon to cruise any of these highways.
- dootisterhans, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4How about "I can recommend that trip to anyone"
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2The Beartooth Highway from the East Yellowstone gate to Red Lodge Montana is the most spectular drive I have seen in the US. Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park isn't bad either. The Blue Ridge sucks. The mountains are tiny.
- tidu, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3m00ps! That's not m00ps, you idiot, that's m00rs! It's a misprint!
- jpl7986, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2i'll be riding the shoulder on a bike
- tidu, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Well, not anywhere in Pennsylvania. It looks the best out in the middle of nowhere.
- bossm4n, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2The Hana Highway is a magnificent drive. Nearly every turn exposes either another waterfall or a breathtaking view over a cliff of the Pacific Ocean. Less known is that Charles Lindbergh's grave site is just outside Hana. It's not marked very well. You basically have to ask locals where it is. Hamoa Beach is also in Hana. Probably one of the most incredible beaches I've ever seen. In fact James Michener wrote that it is the most beautiful beach in the world. The entire place is paradise.
- SubaruPowah, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Beartooth Highway in Montana, and Trail Ridge in Colorado are beautiful too. I was hoping to see them on the list.
- INDIGLOW, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Gonna to have to add to the to do list.
- LanceUppercut, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1The drive up to the Kalalau lookout on Kauai is pretty amazing. Most of the time you are driving along what is essentially a 1/10th scale grand canyon. Oh and the view from the top is pretty nice as well. My favorite walk is the Honopu trail which also starts on this road.
- BaronSamedi242, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4This post reminding you to waste gas at $4 a gallon is brought to you by the Republican Party, who are going into an election and need fat campaign contributions from their oil friends and therefore wish for you to top up their obscene profits.
- alclone, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Wait until the allergies hit you...
and the deer...
and the 1 hour long detours caused by construction
I live in Pittsburgh, how's Philly? - monsterette, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Eeewwwwhew! Now that's a beautiful sight.!
- Typhoon2009, on 05/10/2008, -3/+4If you don't mind stealing the gas...
- novenator, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Hawaii has some of the most picturesque scenery I have seen
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1It smells like victory.
- Technopundit, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2The bracing smell of carbolic acid riding on the breeze.
- redone, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1They didn't mention that Going To The Sun is undergoing reconstruction, and will be a pain in the butt this summer.
- tidu, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Or just take your mother for the ride and have an engaging conversation with her?
- h2d2, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1You can take GW Bridge out of Manhattan, there's a gas station on the Jersey side right off the bridge with gas prices almost 50 cents cheaper than NY. Then you can continue on the Palisades Parkway, with some pretty nice views.
