- binky79, on 10/30/2008, -1/+85That's the coolest fort I've ever seen that wasn't made out of couch cushions.
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -8/+77***** you dutch people.
With your weed, amazingly progressive government and beautiful parks and gardens. Oh, look at me! I'm dutch, I live in the best place in the world, woohoo, everything is beautiful and all our women are hot and have no body hair! Seriously, ***** you. - mnemy, on 10/30/2008, -3/+59Looks like a mario stage.
- derang, on 10/31/2008, -0/+25You forgot the (free) porn channels...lol.
But no problem, seriously, thanks ;p
That is not the only star-shaped fort here in Holland either. They're all very pretty places though, even at this time of year.
Dooie :) - petejk, on 10/30/2008, -2/+25Perfect map for multiplayer FPS games
- 4NDr01D, on 10/31/2008, -0/+19btw it was built like that so you could maximize defensive canon fire from any point
any attacker would be trapped between the crossfire of any two points of the star - BoneStamp, on 10/31/2008, -0/+17I think your facetiousness came across as a literal "***** you" but I'm with you and I'm jealous too.

I don't have to go into how many levels of "righteous" your comment was :) - RafiParrr, on 10/31/2008, -1/+9Needs more red coins.
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -0/+8That would actually be awesome. Swords, horses, catapults...cows...
Do it. - halomaker, on 10/31/2008, -3/+11I don't understand, what does this have to do with Obama?
- Doughd54, on 10/31/2008, -0/+8Also, we're statistically the tallest people on earth.
- phenom2k7, on 10/31/2008, -0/+7Catapulting cows would be awesome.
- rdldr1, on 10/30/2008, -5/+12Star forts were designed to better deflect blasts from cannon balls. Gunpowder changed castle design.
- BoneStamp, on 10/31/2008, -1/+7So that's where the pirate bay is.
- Piotr, on 10/31/2008, -0/+6That's because it's in the middel of nowhere. Nice place though.
- chris4404, on 10/31/2008, -1/+7Attack the star fort at its weak point for massive damage.
- ostracize, on 10/31/2008, -2/+7Bald chicks, eh?...Hmm...No thanks, I'll pass...
- StigNordas, on 10/30/2008, -0/+5Jet Ski
- lecadavredemort, on 10/31/2008, -1/+6makes me wanna be a landscape architect
- BoneStamp, on 10/31/2008, -0/+5What do they have that their neighbors want? (other than the kickass starfort that is protecting them)
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 10/31/2008, -0/+5He is the one most responsible for this type of defense.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vauban - Larsonal777, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4Shows how much you know... cylindrical forts give the enemy a straight shot as long as they aim in the middle from their field of view they are shooting perpendicular to the wall a star shapped fort they have to put them selves in a bad possition to get a perpendicular shot...
It allows each bastion to cover the other walls. If you've ever been to a star fort its pretty cool to see from up close the benifits.
Side note... the French were the best fort builders... I think they got a little too involved in building and fell behind in warfare. - cgilston, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4I think I'm heading there for the zombie apocalypse.
- inactive, on 10/31/2008, -1/+5You mean there's no Walmart and parking lots?
- ostracize, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4Star design allows the points to protect the straightaway walls of the adjacent points. The only way a cannon could fire on a fort without being in range of the fort's own cannons was to shoot at the point of the star which was structurally reinforced at the tip.
- thcobbs, on 10/31/2008, -0/+4@phenom until you realize that it was the first form of bio-warfare. They also used to catapult Plague victims in during sieges.
- Chamrox, on 10/31/2008, -1/+5The Netherlands has a homogenous culture. Much easier to get things done when everyone is on the same page.
- RennyB, on 10/31/2008, -1/+5The star design allows for more effective fields or fire.
- insanebrain, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3Hard work.
- Blydchyld, on 10/31/2008, -2/+5Well not really...
You know they diddn't throw those cannon balls? - Fryth, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3In the centre there's an access to the Special World...
- turbosatan, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3now grab 50 friends and arm each one with a jetski and a paintball gun.
- aurorion, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3That place could be used as heaven in any religious movie. So beautiful!
- Badfish2, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3Siege this bitch!
- Genecalypse, on 10/31/2008, -0/+3holy crap that is awesome.
- maxhead, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Dude, why do you think I moved here 9 years ago from the US? Living with a Bush administration is reason to leave the country already but with all the advantages of living in The Netherlands, it was the right decision. Now having voted for Obama (shout out to Overseas Voting!) we'll see where we go on 20 January 2009...
- zachxmorris, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2bur
- bpoteat, on 10/31/2008, -1/+3And high.
- rxbudian, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2heh...heh... I used to think like that, but now I just want to do the general design, to have someone build it for me and to move into the place.
- ChemicalDean, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2It's in the most Northern part of the Netherlands, nothing but a bunch of farmers there :p
- Midtowner, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2The Netherlands -- what a free country looks like.
- cheeseplease, on 11/01/2008, -0/+2Groningen is the nearest decent city and its about 50km from there.
- thcobbs, on 10/31/2008, -0/+2Too bad you've missed this fad by a few hundred years
