Australia’s Greenest Development Plans Unveiled
inhabitat.com — A new project planned for the outskirts of the city will become the most sustainable development in Australia. As if that wasn ’t exciting enough, the new 5.8 hectare (14+ acre) development - a mix of commercial, retail, and residential space - will have contributions from none other than Pritzker Prize winners Foster + Partners.

- thestrongrope, on 04/22/2008, -0/+14Some of those designs are great looking. I am interested to see if they can achieve the carbon neutrality that they are seeking. Even if they can't at least they are aiming high. Better to shoot for the stars, than not shoot at all.
- starfocus03, on 04/22/2008, -0/+12A project after my own heart!
- greentime, on 04/22/2008, -0/+12Wow, there are some amazing looking designs in this post. Nouvel is definitely on a role this year. Hooray for Sydney!
- Bukowsky, on 04/22/2008, -0/+8Very cool ideas coming from down under!
- Designliving, on 04/22/2008, -0/+12This building in the picture is awesome looking - i would love to live there.
- FamilyGuyFan, on 04/22/2008, -0/+11I love the futuristic look.
- ryananger, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Yeah, me too, but its definitely not the futuristic look we are used to. They are actually combining the "tech" look with nature, which is really cool.
- killbert24, on 04/22/2008, -1/+13Go Australia! We're rooting for you! Also... very sad about the whole ozone hole thing :-(
- EmileVictor, on 04/22/2008, -0/+5Dw, helps us get a tan quicker.
- goldfishey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1and die quicker. I only come in two shades, very very white and very very red. Frankly white hurts a lot less. ;) Its all slip slop slap for me.
- incorrect, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2We'd rather you not copulate.
If you wish to show your support, try barracking.

- leonidas333, on 04/22/2008, -1/+2Yeah that would be cool and all but there is a big difference between architecture drafts and the finished product.
I think the best thing about Oz is that it is a relatively new nation so we are note tide in to deeply with oldschool styles of architecture and are more flexible when it comes to experimenting. - dogarms, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4This looks great, but I can't help thinking how tricky it would be to trim and maintain all that plant life.
- goldfishey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1apartment goat. Trims and fertilizes! ;)
- smacksaw, on 04/22/2008, -0/+8I predict each unit will have a serious problem with bugs and pests.
- goldfishey, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1depends on the plants you choose really. Although the evil child in me sees much potential in throwing snails off the upper floors!!
- macwac, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4I am changing my profession from IT to gardening, seeing all the new buildings and the amount of vertical greenery trimming needed.
- foxhaze, on 04/22/2008, -8/+3Helping the environment. Baaah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah hah.
- mikkee07, on 04/22/2008, -0/+6Pictures are very, very beautiful.
- rockus, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Wow! That is really beautiful. I wish we had a few green buildings in our place in place of the glass and concrete monstrosities.
- BCCStu, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Makes me envious, wish I lived in one of those things instead of my current WWI era apt. building. No cell phone service...does not rock.
- leonidas333, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1At least those thick wall will protect you from impending bombs in the next world war
- ryananger, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Unless its a nuke.

- jimmick, on 04/22/2008, -0/+4Ew..... Sydney
/Melburnian- EmileVictor, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1There's a reason victorians are flocking to brisbane...
- goldfishey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2yes, because they want to escape the cruddy multi-weather days and they hate sydney! ;)
- EmileVictor, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1There's a reason victorians are flocking to brisbane...
- Salinesolucion, on 04/22/2008, -2/+2This is cool, I want to live in Sydney!
- dorotixel, on 04/22/2008, -0/+2major gardening bill :)
- JanYpe, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Doesn't really look like Bartertown yet. =(
- diggjcarp, on 04/22/2008, -0/+7Australia has made impressive environmental advances since the election of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, including ratifying the Kyoto protocol and leaving the US alone as the only developed country that has not ratified Kyoto, thanks to Bush. To set a course for environmental change, the most powerful thing we can do publicly is to VOTE!
- Mossmaal, on 04/22/2008, -4/+1Australia had already set environmental goals before signing Kyoto, the signing of Kyoto was just a symbolic action that did nothing to change Australia's environment plans
- aristideau, on 04/23/2008, -0/+5I honestly I feel that I am living in a different country since Howard was booted out. I still have that post election glow. Howard was a little sycophantic Mussolini embarrassment who was way past his use-by date
- TimeLincoln, on 04/22/2008, -5/+1LOL! Foster + Partners, everyone in Australia has the last name Foster! NO EXCEPTIONS!
- suzywang3000, on 04/22/2008, -2/+1you spelled "gayest" wrong...
- zmigliozzi, on 04/22/2008, -0/+3Just because it has foliage and trees growing on it doesn't make it "green". Ok well maybe it does.
- nullcodes, on 04/22/2008, -4/+2Umm, Australia has tree snakes and really pissed off spiders. I don't mind trees, but I really don't want other crap living there too in proximity to me.
Grow these trees in the desert areas, not in buildings .. it probably would be the same expense.- goldfishey, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Tree snakes? not around Sydney. There's the brown snake - but it wouldn't find its own way into the middle of sydney - it would need help from stupid people. And spiders? well I suppose a funnel web might find its way into an apartment block in the center of sydney - But go 15min north into the suburbs - and they are everywhere anyway,
- shrtkrimper, on 04/22/2008, -0/+1Neat building.. at least you would get some privacy.. and my cats would feel like they are in the jungle
- jazstaR, on 04/22/2008, -0/+0these are very nice, but I think the finished product will be very different, in this i mean, i think there not gonna have a whole lot of tree's like that, i just think they're to represent that the buildings and area are going to be "green" and environmentally friendly. Yet im all for that many plants, looks cool.
- DestroyFascism, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1LOokS like Flinders and Spencer street railway stations just before they re-developed, and as for Footscray.......
- shanamistress, on 04/24/2008, -0/+0Just another reason to tip the cap to Australians. These guys always take the initiative, be it sport, societ or the environment. Well done, aussies!
