- diemunkiesdie, on 04/21/2009, -9/+76Damn New Zealanders, just a bunch of cocky a-holes descended from criminals and retarded monkeys. Those guys throw another shrimp on the barbie and ride around in their kangaroos all day. That's why I don't serve those freaks fruit at my stand.
- bunnymaster3000, on 04/22/2009, -4/+28omg guys dont digg him down its a flight of the conchords reference
- Leezus, on 04/22/2009, -2/+24This is great!
I thought the Aussie/Kiwi feud was just a joke from Flight of the Conchords. But no, It's real life! - Choplifter, on 04/21/2009, -1/+17I refuse to believe that drunken soccer hooligans would behave like anything but perfect gentlemen at his establishment.
- cosmicr, on 04/22/2009, -3/+18I cant believe they're pulling the race card. What does the fact that he's Australian have to do with it? If you ask me its the New Zealanders that cant get over the rivalry, I mean they're the ones bringing up the fact that he's Aussie. He only banned the town based on previous experiences, nothing to do with them being kiwis. Good on him I say.
- cosmicr, on 04/22/2009, -0/+15so your father is a kiwi and your mother an aussie, you have to kick your own ass!
- Eurynom0s, on 04/22/2009, -3/+17In other news, Australian man gets sand stuck in vagina. Full story at 10.
- Arassar, on 04/22/2009, -2/+14In America, we can refuse people service for any reason. We sure as hell would refuse anybody who did what the owner said. Sounds like that town either needs to start behaving better or get a new motel.
- sanguinekane, on 04/22/2009, -0/+11Chances are they were actually drunken rugby hooligans, but that's an easy mistake to make.
- Egotrippin, on 04/22/2009, -1/+12they just want some red delicious.
- sanguinekane, on 04/22/2009, -0/+11Try being stuck on both sides. My mother is Australian and much of my family lives there. But I live in Auckland (Jafa-land and not the real NZ, but you know how it goes) and I actually think NZ is a nicer country.
It's hard to be in the middle... - ShingoEX, on 04/22/2009, -0/+9Now, instead of the inside of his motel constantly getting trashed, it's going to be wrecked on the outside and vandalized
- airwalkery2k, on 04/22/2009, -2/+11I think he's got a point. I mean, when's the last time you met somebody from Wainuiomata, New Zealand who wasn't a total dick? I know I can't count the days.
- cosmicr, on 04/22/2009, -2/+10its their word against his - they're still bringing up the fact that he's australian. imagine if I said I wouldnt commit a crime because I'm not black - that sounds pretty insulting doesnt it? ***** racist new zealanders. ***** them right in the ear!
- noahgelman, on 04/22/2009, -3/+11If a large portion of the people causing problems at his motel come from a specific city or area, then he has every right as a business owner to ban those people from his establishment. It's a little unfair to the people from there that aren't unruly, but the world isn't fair to all. He's losing some business due to this decision so don't think that he's just doing this out of spite or anything.
- eclipse492, on 04/22/2009, -3/+10I dont see what the big deal is. He's a dick, just dont stay there and he'll lose all his money. The fact that he's australian has nothing to do with it... He's over reacting to some bad experiences, but you cant exactly call an aussie who now calls new zealand his home, racist against kiwis! He's just a knob. I think its pretty shameful for new zealand to make such a big deal that a smallish town has been banned from staying in one crappy motel,
then to start all this 'its because he's australian' crap.... - jasmus, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6Still not a big deal. He can refuse service to anyone he likes, and if it's a truly stupid decision his business will die.
It's possible that the only patrons he gets from that particular town are football teams, that cost him stacks of money in damages and complaints from other patrons while they are there. Maybe one or two others from that town may want to stay there one day, but that money isn't going to pay for the damage done. - Haoie, on 04/21/2009, -0/+6http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/2348613/Motel-bans ...
The comments are really something. - kingmanic, on 04/22/2009, -0/+6I didn't think surly business owners were exclusive to any particular nationality. I'm pretty sure a Kiwi who had a series of bad experience may well ban a town. But if you insist that the people from new zealand are homogeneous and if they are all like you; I'm glad I don't know any.
- Rhysbo, on 04/22/2009, -0/+5Australia's Basil Fawlty.
- jpaolini, on 04/22/2009, -1/+6Kinda like Rhode Island!
- jeevesatvic, on 04/22/2009, -0/+4I'm a Kiwi and I think this is hilarious. Most kiwis who have visited Wainui will not find this surprising. I vote to ban Porirua next.
The newspapers emphasize the aussie connection because it makes a good story. The politicians are being outraged and indignant because that's what politicians do. I think most new zealanders will be having a good laugh at Wainuiomatas expense. - TokenBlack, on 04/22/2009, -4/+8Aziz! I didn't know this is your account!
- wildcat156, on 04/22/2009, -1/+5This is some of the most childish stuff I've ever read.
- loopyloopy, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3much like the US v Canada, but without the strict border control
- stait01, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3It's the media-perpetuated rivalry between the two nations that doesn't really exist, there's no real animosity between the countries, people just see it as witty or referential to being up the rivalry when possible. It's ***** lame.
- Evolve, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3I watched this on the news. In reality its a tiny matter that no one would of given two cents about, but because the News outfits are lacking in any 'real' news they all dive on this like its an Obama Incest Rape tape, turning it into a bigger issue that it really was.
I challenge anyone to base a business model on a 99% cost rate, it doesn't work unless your a non-profit charity (of which this Hotel is not). - hoodedrobin, on 04/22/2009, -2/+5That ***** doesn't happen to Americans... Know why?
GUNS
/redneckism - aussieNickuss, on 04/22/2009, -5/+8What surprises me is that it's an Aussie that's actually relocated to NZ. Usually it's the other way round. There's more New Zealanders in Australia than there are in their own country.
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+3How is it relevant that he's Australian? Jesus Christ, it seems whenever NZ is saying something about AU, it's bitching about it.
- misterhektik, on 04/22/2009, -1/+3I'm gonna juice the mutha ucka.
- porl, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2i don't know about that... have you seen the size of the moat we dug??
- werkerholic, on 04/22/2009, -2/+4Australia ....... America............Austramerica.............America
- werkerholic, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2hahahaha
- Junkyarddawg, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2I filtered all of Dartmouth.edu from a server on account of them hosting hackers they refused to do anything about. Maybe I should submit that as a dig.
Nah, not newsworthy and lame. - jitterbits, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2And pop an apple in his ass.
- ChinaLumberjack, on 04/22/2009, -0/+2This is exactly what the US did to Cuba.
- thekiwicockney, on 04/22/2009, -4/+5Try reading? He banned 16,000 people on the actions of perhaps 20 or so rugby players....
- thekiwicockney, on 04/22/2009, -4/+5Try read a little... he banned 16,000 residents based on the actions of 3 teams (which would be at a maximum 60 people, and not all of those people would have misbehaved).
- DouglasQ, on 04/22/2009, -1/+2Bahsil Faaahhlty
- jonglebeats, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1That's a compliment.
- thekiwicockney, on 04/22/2009, -2/+3Chances are it won't be running too far into the future, don't know many teams that are going to be booking a stay there now.
- thekiwicockney, on 04/22/2009, -1/+2Saw the item on the new last night and right you are.
- revenz, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1i think its small town new zealand, im a kiwi, but small town NZ often seem to have problems with things (go to any small town around NZ and say you're from Auckland (NZs biggest city), and you get treated like crap a lot of the time - well you do with the younger generation)
- inactive, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1Read the NZ Herald any day and you'll see confirmation.
- kiwi00man, on 04/22/2009, -1/+2diemunkiesdie, you are referring to AUSTRALIA. New Zealand (where I live) is a separate country 1500 kilometers to the east of Australia, separated by the Tasman Sea.
About Palmerston North (where the motel is located) - John Cleese said it was the most boring place on earth, and it is indeed a bland boring place. Anyone who leaves warm sunny Australia for a deadbeat place like Palmerston North lacks something substantial 'upstairs'. As far as Wainuiomata (the city that is 'banned') is concerned, at least it is near Wellington!! - inactive, on 04/24/2009, -1/+2I could go for some NZ women right about now.
- dawnraid101, on 04/25/2009, -0/+1Your point? Btw so do we?
- vaibhavsuneja, on 04/27/2009, -0/+1that was something really bad it shouldn't happen again. I used to think only Indian and Australian fights over cricket match remember last year episode b/w Australian and Indians but they have issues with kiwis 2 wow
