- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+9Cool pictures. I bet it was cold as all get out though.
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -3/+8Incredible!
Sadly, these will come in handy when it all melts... - BurningSand, on 04/03/2009, -0/+4Awe-inspiring.
- ScottMcIntyre, on 04/03/2009, -0/+4These are great photos- I particularly like the ones that capture the crabeater seals. I'm surprised at how the icebergs have a blue tinge to them, but apparently that's due to the effects of phytoplankton. Cool photoset!
- inactive, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2I want to be at these places..all at the same time.
- vptel, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Go BANANA
- inactive, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Icebergs can flip over without warning. I would not get as close as these photographers did!
- rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+2Wow! Thanks everyone for the comments and diggs. We were surprised this morning to look at our traffic and see the incredible spike. We are currently about half way through blogging the 12 day trip. It was absolutely incredible! We did so much on the trip it was hard to digest everything so this travel log is our way of digesting/comprehending the trip, sorting the huge number of photos we took and sharing the tip with others. Thank you all!
- zakool21, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1I particularly like the pictures of the icicles that bend as the iceberg tumbles, so to speak, in the water. Their other galleries are well worth the visit, too.
- alain4911, on 04/04/2009, -1/+2Although I can't sepak for librarychic, it seems likely to me that this was a genuine comment that was free of political motivation.
It's tough to not have the problem cross your mind isn't it? It was definitely among my first thoughts. - TheZorch, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1You mean the green color. The blue is due to the ice filtering out all other wavelengths of light accept for blue which can't penetrate deeper.
- iJessicaRabbit, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Beautiful pictures. Love the layout and presentation too :)
- jellehenkens, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1The other chapters on the site are great too!
- kingkhan786, on 04/05/2009, -0/+1all images are outstanding

I feel this is relevant. - nixfu, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1SEE! The ice is NOT ALL GONE like Al Gore said it would be.
- crit1caL, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Very nice, but I'd really like higher resolution pictures in this case to use as a wallpaper.
- AlyxVance, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Frick watch out for that zombie seal
- LiquidIse, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1This pics could use some serious Raw love. Contrast and Exposure ++
- rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Here is a link to a distance shot of the iceberg graveyard these texture photos were taken in: http://www.flickr.com/photos/person/3381093781/ Also see this earlier chapter in our travel log: http://www.flickr.com/photos/person/3381093781/
- takameyer, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Awesome photos! I can imagine how awe inspiring it would be to see that in person.
- rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+1Very true, however these icebergs were part of a iceberg graveyard, they were grounded on the ocean floor and will need to erode enough underneath to break free before they can flip, a process that gives us much more warning. Our guides were very picky about which icebergs we could get close to and which ones the zoom on our lenses would just have to do. Being this close was not without risk, but it was worth it. I have never felt so small and insignificant in my life as I did beside some of those bergs.
- kfury, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0Nope, not 'shopped! (I took it myself!) Though I can see how you'd think so, as it looks HDR. The white fringe on the top of the seals is because their coats are shiny at the right angles. Thanks for all the attention guys, it's awesome.
- EchoMike, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0Those seals are bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
- Riavenge, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0These are real photos, very good!

seals = photoshopped? - rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0Correct link to the earlier chapter in our travel log: http://antarctic.fury.com/23-mountain-climbing.php
- rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0No, not all gone, but many of the glaciers are eroding faster than they ever have.
- enterprise51, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0Cool picts - definitely provides insight into the grand nature of the universe
- rheafire, on 04/04/2009, -0/+0It was cold, but not as cold as we expected. We were there during the Antarctic summer which can still have very cold whether, but we got lucky and had sun most days we were there (which is an incredible thing to happen in itself) and reasonably warm temperatures. We ranged from about 20ºF - about 40ºF without much wind chill at all. This was actually warmer than My parents were experiencing in the north east coast (United States) at the same time. We even had one afternoon where the bridge reported a reading of 60ºF in the direct sun. So yes, it was cold, but nothing like it could have been.
- RealmDown, on 04/03/2009, -5/+3*sigh*
I hear you, but does *everything* have to be used for a political point?
