- jerryjamesstone, on 07/10/2009, -5/+37Are they really hidden if they're on digg? Someone had to say it. Great places though.
- strictnein, on 07/12/2009, -0/+20"Or when it warms up to -35 degrees (Fahrenheit) people are outside in short sleeve shirts washing their cars."
What are they using? Rubbing alcohol? - alanocu, on 07/11/2009, -4/+21Been to Glacier Bay, Alaska. Beautiful. Going to Alaska will give you a new perspective on life. In some places, you have to put your sun visor down at 3:00 a.m. Or when it warms up to -35 degrees (Fahrenheit) people are outside in short sleeve shirts washing their cars. At Halloween, your costume has to fit over a snowsuit. And people drive for a mile on square tires on a -65 degree morning.
- smitas, on 07/11/2009, -3/+17Nice places but shouldn't be hidden but cherished
- yano, on 07/11/2009, -0/+11I feel a roadtrip in my near future.
- Stevanoski, on 07/11/2009, -2/+12The Guadalupe's are beautiful if you know the right areas. Of course that one movie/book was made about those Mass. college students who got lost and one killed the other to drink his blood.
To me, the best way to NEVER get lost in the desert mountains is to follow the ravines down. They always lead to a valley and 9 times out of 10 there will be a road.
I have got lost a few times, one time was really scary as fog moved in and you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Luckily I came to a barb wire fence. Followed it and came right to the clearing where I'd parked (thank you God). Since then I've bought a cheapie GPS, I mark my spot when I leave and at least know the general direction back. - DerangedPenguin, on 07/12/2009, -0/+9Crater Lake (check)

I still have a few places left to see I think I was slightly disappointed at Great Basin when I could see the sky shine from Las Vegas to the south west. I also got the best speeding ticket in my life on that trip. I was pulled over for 85 MPH in a 55 MPH on I93, the NSHP office wrote me a wasting natural resources ticket, 10 court cost 5 dollar fine and warned me about a herd of wild horses 20 miles up the road. Back on my way northward at a slower velocity, I crested a ridge to see a whole herd of wild horses standing in the middle of the Interstate. That NSHP officer most likely saved my life and my rental car and perhaps a horses life with that ticket. - jrm125, on 07/11/2009, -1/+10Makes me really want to take a cross country road trip.
- ParticleMan420, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8this isnt canada's hidden treasures.

- thorb, on 07/11/2009, -0/+8I visit Conkle's Hollow every year and it never let's me down. It's great to see such awesome scenery in Ohio.
- begbegbegbegbeg, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5So, you're saying it's just like Liverpool?
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Thatcher Park in Albany County, NY is pretty sick, great place to watch fireworks from the city below on the 4th... That whole Adirondack preserve is amazing and people in other parts of the country don't seem to know much about it, strangely. The Mt. Morris Canyon in western NY is awesome and only a few hours from Niagra Falls if you're out and about those ways... ditto the Finger Lakes though I've only gone to Conesus because it was near my college. The Catskills are beatuiful too... New York is a pretty beautiful place actually, but not many people venture up from the City they just go to Long Island or the Hudson Valley for weekend trips.
- bdbr, on 07/12/2009, -1/+5Were you expecting America's hidden treasures to be somewhere else?
- Myztry, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4The beauty of any place is inversely proportionate to the population that resides there, which unfortunately attracts more people.
- CuttyRed, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4One of my favorite spots is Silver Falls state park in Oregon.

http://www.oregon.com/hiking/silver_falls.cfm - mhidzvillalobos, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4America really has the great treasure to keep, with those eye-catching views it is really a treasure.
- Myztry, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Aspects of cities can be beautiful. Maybe individual artistic creations like buildings or parks, but the whole is never beautiful. While a forest, lakes, mountains, etc may be beautiful in their whole and 'content to be', cities tend to be utilitarian with clustered attractions attempting to draw attention away from the reality that cities are by necessity mostly practical not beautiful.
- schnikies79, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4I've been to several cities and none have compared to nature. They are interesting but natural beauty always wins.
- MasonZombie, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Well not so hidden now, are they?
- MrSparkle666, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3I'm going to Crater Lake later this summer. I can't wait!
- modgirl17, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Anything on the Hana Highway (Maui, HI) is absolutely beautiful. Waterfalls here (Oahu) just doesn't compare!
- woofers07, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3I was really excited that MT wasn't gonna be on the list till I got to the end :(
- salinungatha, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4So cities can't be beautiful in your opinion? Wow you're missing out - human beings can certainly (but by no means always) add something extra and good to a landscape. Try Florence or Luang Prabang.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4Dude, what are you yammering about? Going off on some 'God' tangent and then copying the 'Is there a Santa Claus excerpt' letter? And neither of them actually have anything to do with this story. Random much?
- ParticleMan420, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4did the rabbit have a van and call himself Buck?
- skipvt, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4Yes, get with the program.
- 4AntiStupid, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3The great thing about the lesser known spots...less people. The Grand Canyon is actually not all that great of a destination for the casual tourist. It's quite a site, but after you "ooh and ahh" a bit, the isn't much to do. To really experience the canyon, you've got to be in good shape and be willing to rough it.
As far as Niagara Falls, there are great views from either side, but the Canadian side is really the tourist area. Getting across the border is quick and painless, but you do need your passport now. The jet boat to the whirlpool is a blast. - elkhorninn, on 07/12/2009, -1/+4What glorious places to visit- I hope- esp. Glacier Bay! But you left out the magnificent mountains of Landgraff, southern West Virginia- and they write SONGS about these mountains! :-)
- finklehorn, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3i like the names of places in the us and canada. "crater lake" brilliant!
i'd love to do a massive coast to coast of the US one day! take a few months to do it ! as bonkers as americans are, its a facinating country no matter what! - matt2m, on 07/12/2009, -1/+3I went to Redwood National Park in Cali when I was younger great experience you truly feel tiny. There is also a huge stump when i mean huge it was at least 30 ft in diameter dont quote me on that because i was 11 at the time but it was big. I also went to Yosemite national park another great place but for some reason I cant remember much about what i did but I do have hunks of granite i picked up off the ground and a polished half circle of crystal silica from the gift shop.
- DrNemo, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4Europe has nothing on American even with the Alps.
- Velocity14, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Waterfall after waterfall while still wandering around in a forest... yeah. Definitely a gem. Great hiking trails.
- XBebop, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2Nobody's catching your Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged reference, buddy.
- gfelstein55, on 07/13/2009, -0/+2America is such a glorious place to visit especially Nigeria falls.
- johnwc, on 07/11/2009, -2/+4Would have included Canyon de Chelly, Arizona.
http://www.nps.gov/cach/index.htm - Smyley, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Didn't they film twilight there?
- Bense, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Damn, Congaree National Park is about 20 minutes away. BBL
- jkroge, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2More than half of these are national parks, which is great, but I was expecting a few more lesser-known places. Conkles Hollow and Nantahala were great examples of hidden treasures in America. Another one that I would add to the list is Custer State Park in South Dakota.
- zmigliozzi, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Cincinnati is right about in the middle between hocking hills and mammoth cave, and even Red River Gorge all spectacular scenes and hiking.
- Dl1cool, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2It's beautiful, you won't be disappointed.
- frostydf2, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
- monsterette, on 07/14/2009, -0/+2...breath taking...
- ilikedemoon, on 07/12/2009, -0/+2They forgot the 'Mackenna's Gold' mountains. That's my wallpaper.
- Dl1cool, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1How would one get say a motorcycle or a car to Hawaii? I guess it's probably easier to just rent, but I'm curious.
- Sanderson9009, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1We have some amazing spots in Florida, if you are ever in the area. I'm an avid camper, definitely going to check some of these places out some day.
- Technopundit, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1They've shut down some of the coal plants along the Colorado.
- inactive, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2Canyon de Chelly was a bit unnerving in that it is the only NPS area which I've seen having a warning about leaving your car unattended due to theft...
- praisethelard, on 07/12/2009, -0/+1You just reminded me of a favorite cartoon I had as a child!
