Adventures in 'extreme telecommuting'
computerworld.com — I've been in Greece now for nearly a month, and I'm happy to tell you that "extreme telecommuting" is possible and rewarding -- but it isn't easy. The hardest thing: Finding fast, cheap and reliable internet access. The second hardest thing: Getting people to believe me when I tell them "I'm not on vacation!"

- Fangsinmybeard, on 05/05/2008, -1/+4I think an extreme form of telecommuting would be trying that from Mars or from Jovian orbit. Hey what about telecommuting from Antarctica? Now that would be insane? Just kidding.
- LiquidIse, on 05/06/2008, -0/+6I would telecommute but gas is so expensive.
- Gabberwok, on 05/06/2008, -0/+3Trying to figure out whether you're being sarcastic or stupid is hurting my brain...
- CedEx, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0Put down your burrito!
- ObamaWins08, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1I'd be happy with non-extreme, 5 miles away telecommuting...
- OffPiste, on 05/06/2008, -3/+1Stupid malaka.
- borez, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Get a local carrier sim for a 3G mobile phone, connect it to the internet, set up a bluetooth network from the phone to your laptop and bingo...you're on-line, it's slow, but it's relatively cheap and it gets the job done.
- Nhmarine, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1Why go to beautiful places to work? "I am not on vacation, I am working." But this guy should be on vacation.... If I was him I would neglect my work for a bit of partying
- mikelgan, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1The "extreme telecommuting" lifestyle is based on the idea that technology lets you "live" anywhere, and continue to work. Instead of visiting a place for a week and not working, I can visit a place for two months and keep working, and do "tourism" in the evenings, on weekends or whenever. -Mike
- Gabberwok, on 05/06/2008, -1/+3There are better examples of "extreme" telecommuting in the new Iron Man movie... such as taking a phone call while flying at supersonic speeds to avoid getting shot out of the sky by military aircraft.
- iloveazngurlzs, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Awesome, i wanna do this in the future. Would get a satellite connection, drop a few g's on an amazing laptop and world connection rather than trying to find wifi all over the place.
Just imagine missing the deadline for work. =/ There goes your "vacation" - whataboutdave, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1I think this is the least likely title I have ever seen on Digg. And that's saying something.
- Duggan360, on 05/06/2008, -1/+1EXTREEEEEEEEEEEMEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
- ransomduke, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Maybe it's just because I'm at work, but I totally thought the title was "adventures in extreme reverse telecommuting". Now THAT would be an awesome article!
