- jackcharm, on 07/18/2008, -0/+43I grew up at that place. It was like Vegas for 8 year olds.
- inactive, on 07/18/2008, -0/+35Dugg for "Class Action Park" nickname
- whiteknives, on 07/18/2008, -4/+33This is possibly the only legitimately cool thing to ever come from New Jersey.
- sock2828, on 07/19/2008, -1/+29"Tank Ride: This was one of the most popular rides at Motoworld (it featured prominently in the television ads). It was more dangerous for employees than patrons.[12]
In a chainlink fence-enclosed area, small tanks could be driven around for a fee for five minutes at a time, with tennis ball cannons that enabled riders to shoot at a sensor prominently mounted on each tank. If hit, the tank stopped operating for 15 seconds, while other tankers often took advantage of the delay to pepper the stricken vehicle with more fire.
Visitors on the outside could also join in the fun through less costly cannons mounted on the inside of the fence. When workers had to enter the cage to attend to a stuck or crashed tank, which usually happened several times a day, they were often pelted with tennis balls from every direction despite prohibitions against such behavior that could result in expulsion from the park. It is not known if this resulted in any serious injuries, but it made the tank ride the least popular place to work in the park"
My god! that sounds awesome - dralter, on 07/18/2008, -0/+25Action Park commercial 1988 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhXlj-cEyFE

- decker12, on 07/19/2008, -0/+19This is an exceptional Wikipedia article. DUGG even though I've never been there, I truly laughed out loud at the descriptions as well as the external links. Crazy stuff there in NJ.
- MrM1yagi, on 07/19/2008, -1/+16Here are some pictures of the park.

My favourite? Tank Ride.

Sprained my leg after hitting the water wrong on a ride that sent you through a tube, underground and shot you out about 10 feet above the water.
Shoot, things were better when there wasn't such pussy safety rules. The world is a dangerous place and thrill seekers sometimes get hurt, even killed. No one lives forever. - downneck, on 07/18/2008, -0/+13hell yeah! action park ruled. i liked great adventure better, overall, but you could get away with some ridiculous ***** at action park
- phargarten, on 07/19/2008, -2/+15Wanna see the "Death Express" in action?

damn. - cdigioia, on 07/19/2008, -1/+12That's not really the point
- Aroundtheworls, on 07/19/2008, -0/+10It was awesome. I loved the cannons mounted to the fence- you popped in a quarter and got like a dozen tennis balls to fire at high velocity towards the tanks (or park workers).
My dad flipped the one of the Lola cars on the second smaller track they set up on the hillside- he rolled the kart down and fortunately hit a haybale which stopped him from getting hurt too badly.
Good times! - KMye, on 07/19/2008, -1/+11Spelling Nazi...restrains himself...
- akohut, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9Does anyone else kind of want to go? If not for the rides (which would be awesome if they weren't homicidal), then at least just to see it?
- Pusod, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10Their website is still up. Buy your season passes now!!! LOL!
http://www.mountaincreekwaterpark.com/ - decker12, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9Holy *****, this is hysterical:
"The rider was expected to hold themselves in an upright position while their sled sped down a steep descent. Many times the rider would find themselves unable to maintain their grip on the sled's handles and find themselves lying flat on the sled while the back of their head was making contact with the rollers. Many patrons who could not speak English were unable to comprehend the announcements and warnings provided by employees stressing the necessity to keep your weight forward and maintain a tight grip on the handles. The patron's inability to follow these directions resulted in numerous severe head lacerations weekly. There were also some rare occurrences where a patron's hair became entangled in the rollers when their head made contact with the rollers. If the rider found themselves fortunate enough to make it down the descent unharmed, they were not out of harms way yet. If the plastic sled the rider was on was facing any direction off center, the sled would, instead of skipping, fling the rider off upon impact into the water." - Pusod, on 07/19/2008, -2/+11That means your 41 now... dude you're getting old! Pretty soon you'll be 61. Time flies!
- Lyght, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9Oh, I know, right?! This is the worst thing they've ever done! Those damn conservatives keep closing down our poorly-maintained water parks!
- malibusurf, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9This is quite possibly the funniest wikipedia entry i have ever seen. not only that, but it totally reaffirms my vision of late 80's/early 90's America being this land of no holds barred lunacy and entertainment without any regard to human safety.
The fact it was called "Action park" is like something out of a simpsons episode, ski rides where half the fun is avoiding or viewing potential death, speeds being either "extremely slow" to "death awaits", the park owners paying for more ambulances (!!), 50mph head on collisions in go-karts, snake infested boat rides, and last but not least a ride for small children that doused them in gasoline.
i love action park - ChileanGoD, on 07/19/2008, -1/+10Combo Breaker Nazi is getting baited...
- Flagg3, on 07/19/2008, -0/+9It was the greatest park ever. Just thinking back to the good old days of shooting the hell out of the poor guy running through the Tank park brings a tear to my eye...
- stickstickly, on 07/19/2008, -0/+810 times better than Super Phun Thyme
- wexmajor, on 07/19/2008, -1/+9Easy for you to say. You didn't die.
- Torx, on 07/19/2008, -0/+7I really wish i could be a part of those fond memories of "Accident Park".

- BionicPimp, on 07/19/2008, -0/+7OMG...i remember the wave pool! It was nuts...like cliff diving into a blender. When you're an "indestructible" eight year old kid...there's nothing more fun. I was also a huge fan of the alpine slide...no seatbelts...down a mountain. Trying to hit the guy in front of you with your sled...awesome.
- vexingmodstwo, on 07/18/2008, -0/+6Ah, fun times there. The lagoon with the cliff you can jump off of was my favorite.
- GogglesPaisan, on 07/19/2008, -1/+7Check out back-issue of 'Weird New Jersey' for an incredible multi-page article on this Park. The amusements were not only incredibly unsafe and poorly maintained - the Park itself was left in the capable and skilled hands of minimum-wage summer job teens, many of them high as kites while some of them were simply nit-wits. Meanwhile the suits behind the scene dodged paying their fair share of taxes to the community etcetera. And the Park was in the boonies, lovely area to live. Summertime came, the commercials were aired incessantly and Sussex County was swarmed upon by packed Toyota's and other hoopties blasting deafening inner-city anthems en-route to fun in the sun and assorted abrasions, contusions and sprained limbs. Fun fun fun. Thankfully the present owners are well-funded experienced professionals that offer top-notch water park fun and thrills in a safe environment. You get what you pay for, and the price of admission (worth every penny) is now high enough to discourage the riff-raff. But the old Park - damn, someone should make a movie...
- danmcinerney, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6They had this big raft slide ride and the kid running it let me and about 8 of my friends get on one raft, probably doubling the weight limit. We came with in inches of flying right off the edge of the slide onto the pavement below. One of the scariest moments of my life. It was awesome...
- harvinator24, on 07/19/2008, -3/+9One of the many nicknames for this park was accident park.
I remember one time many years ago when i was with my sister and my father at the park. My sister was waiting on line for the bumper cars and per her high heal through the floor board and then her foot went through the floor. she ended up getting stuck in the floor and the ride had to be closed. - kaesong, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6I went there as a young teen and I remember the tidal pool. It was enormous.
I remember distinctly, "how were the few lifeguards going to save or even identify drowning victims in the pool". It was always crowded. I eventually braved it closer to the deep end and remembered when the tidal wave kicked to high gear, I couldn't keep my head above water.
Part of the thrill of the park was because it claimed so many lives and injuries. - darny, on 07/18/2008, -1/+7I still have the 80s hair-metalesque theme song playing in my head.
- inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+6Sadly after it's end there has been a steady rise of popped collar wearing grease heads in New Jersey. Leading us to believe this park was a failed attempt of controlling the brooding population of douche bags with their falsely inflated senses of self esteem.
- hollywoodphony, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5Oh man, growing up in Connecticut, my brother and I could only dream about going to this place when we saw the ads on channel 11. I guess that's part of the reason I'm here now, able to reminisce about it. Does anyone remember the ads for "Happy Fun Camp"?
- Lyght, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5It used to have a Wet 'n Wild next to the Sahara.
I think it's already been redeveloped into more hotel space or timeshares, but you can still see the ruins of it on Live Maps' Bird's-Eye View:

- buddypriefert, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5I enjoyed reading the part about the Speedboat ride: "These were set up in a small pond, known by staff to be heavily infested with snakes"
- Flagg3, on 07/19/2008, -0/+5Back in college, my friends and I would go to Action Park specifically because the rides were so dangerous. We would spend all day on Surf Hill, specifically because of the fact that it was impossible to go down this ride without eating ***** on a regular basis.
I remember just sitting in the middle of the ride on some of the more dangerous turns just to watch as people came tumbling by you. If you had seen the way people went flying on this thing, you'd be amazed that people didn't die on a daily basis... - rukeypoo, on 07/19/2008, -1/+5And I thought running up a slide made me a dangerous kid.
Damnit. - Averness, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4My parents took us there almost every summer growing up. We saw the park develop over the years and it was awesome. My Dad and Uncle would race down the alpine slide and wipe out, resulting in both of them getting long swaths of skin ripped from their backs, but that was part of the fun. I remember going on the water slide and hitting a section where the segments didn't quite meet up so it acted like a cheese grater, taking a little slice of skin from people as they passed by like a ride tax. I imagined a pile of skin slices sitting under the track growing ever bigger.
As a 14-15 year old, I especially liked this one water slide that let you go down in a straight line really fast with bumps that would launch you in the air a good 10 feet or more. At the bottom you'd slide through a shallow pool to slow you down and if that didn't slow you enough you'd smash into a wall of foam cushions. Hitting the shallow pool at 60mph would usually rip people's bathing suits off. Probably 1 in 3 people would stand up in a daze with pants around knees or ankles. Girls would have their bikini tops around their waist and not even realize they were naked in front of a crowd. I think the park owners recognized the entertainment value of this because they built some bleahers for spectators to watch at the bottom. Here's a video showing the slide I'm talking about, and as you see the guy who goes down almost loses his suit. Good times.

Peaceful Grammar Nazi FTW - franklymister, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4I'm really enjoying the blog from former Action Park employees: http://thecenteroftheaction.blogspot.com/
- calcio0fan, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4No it was torn town when Mountain Creek (ski place) was opened, and later they put up a totally new waterpark. Though from one of the ski lifts you can still see part of this crazy luge thing where half the skin would get ripped off your body if you fell off.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4look at this one from 83...so much dangerous ***** that would never fly today:
