- SoccerBoy, on 04/29/2008, -3/+34Man, do I miss Toronto. Really is one of the best cities in the world. I should have never moved away.
- nahsrocketeer75, on 04/29/2008, -1/+16That's truly a unique perspective. Most excellent.
- Calcularius, on 04/29/2008, -3/+17AAAAAHHHHHH I'm surrounded by corporate crap!!!!!
- mikephimikephi, on 04/29/2008, -1/+14Don't go in Winter
- Soave, on 04/29/2008, -0/+13Take a full panorama, open it in Photoshop, align the horizon, squish it into a square, use distort > polar coordinates.
At least, that's how you make those cool planet things (e.g, http://www.flickr.com/photos/patrickhoff/305171959 ... ) - googooly, on 04/29/2008, -0/+12How do yo take pictures like this ?
- craighoxton, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11I'm moving there in three months!
- SasaLukac, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10dugg for the Tdot
- travis1982, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8that's why I love digg...people helping people.
- Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8I've lived in the GTA for 25 years and the Toronto core itself for 6. The TTC strikes are a pain and some routes feel slower than others, but on a whole, the system is reliable and for one price you can go from missisauga to the edge of pickering.
Toronto was recently ranked the 26th most dangerous city in Canada after all the other major cities in the number of crimes to populations.
Traffic sucks during rush hour, but that's hardly unique to Toronto. It's cold in the winter and hot in the summer, welcome to the northern east coast. Lake Ontario is as clean as any lake can be expected to be with a city sitting on top of it. It's cleaner now than it was 20 years ago and they are still making efforts to improve it. I wouldn't drink the water, but it is very safe to swim in if you pay attention to the water advisories updated daily in the summer. The islands just off shore in particular are virtually always safe.
As for people being rude? I personally haven't had to deal with much in the way of people being rude to me during my time spent in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto or Vancouver, but I've heard other visitors describe us as polite and helpful (off the highways anyways, though polls have shown Albertans as the angrier drivers). I know I do my best to offer help and directions when I can. - spacey, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Try Philadelphia before you bag on TO too much. In fact, point for point -
1. Philadelphia has seen more than one killing a day this year, totaling 127 as of Monday afternoon. New York, Chicago and Los Angeles — whose populations are much larger than Philadelphia's 1.5 million residents — have had fewer homicides this year (2007)
2. You just try the SEPTA subway once. You'll be so insanely disgusted that you'd be willing to eat off the floor of any subway station in TO. Unless of course you like the smell of urine, in which case SEPTA is for you.
3. Deleware River = oil. 265,000 gallons of crude oil spilled from the Athos 1 tanker (2004)
4. The I-76 makes the 401 look like an empty 30 lane highway.
5. It's cold in Philly too, just less snow. But the humidity in the summer is far worse than the cold and snow in TO. In fact, the only time the city of Philthadelphia doesn't smell like piss is in the winter, because pee freezes. - travis1982, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7you think the US is any better? You just described every major US city...toronto homicide rate is nothing compared to the US, same goes for politeness, cleanliness and the traffic.
- travis1982, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7this coming from an aussie. Your accent pisses me off. but your women give me a boner.
- frostyausty, on 04/29/2008, -2/+8Dizzy, Im Wowing just looking at it.
- Edubs519, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6Right Click > Save As > Wallpaper
- Canadian0207, on 04/29/2008, -1/+7check out phantages theatre, Royal Ontario Museum, Maple Leaf Gardens, Hockey Hall of Fame, ACC, Skydome, CN Tower, Nathan Phillips Square, Eaton's Center, even Pearson Airport is something look at. Also check out metro convention center, yonge street, queen street, spadina street, Much Music Building, CityTV building. Check out Square One in Mississauga, go to a Leafs Game, go to a Raptors game, go to a blue jays game, go to an Argonauts game, check out the night life (legal drinking age is 19). If you're downtown, check out Gerrard Street (little India), China Town, and Little Italy. Also, be sure to check out Ontario Place, the Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian brewery, and the one and only, Canada's Wonderland in Vaughn (30 min north of TO) (the world's greatest amusement park in my opinion). Also, if you're there during the summer, check out CNE and the Cara-festival that occurs every summer.
That should keep you busy for a while. - jesuswuzanalien, on 04/29/2008, -4/+10Reminds me of goatse
- db0255, on 04/29/2008, -2/+7it's a trap!
- TNicholson, on 04/29/2008, -2/+7That's not a square.. I think I'm trippin' balls, man.
- fxu1989, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Complete *****.
I am so dizzy. - AtiimKiambu, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4This is awesome. I'm still trying to figure out what it would like like in a normal (linear) panoramic shot.
- Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Check out the Toronto Islands in the summer. Many tourists never realize they are even there.
- Canadian0207, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4shipped to hamilton
- Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Would you be one of those people that thought a greenspace would actually have survived there?
- plethorex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Is anyone else getting really bad vertigo while looking at this?
- musters, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Yeah pretty lame recommending people to visit Oakville.
- Ovrthtp, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3to bad the fountains weren't on, would've been an interesting effect.
- Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Glacial lakes are even cleaner than that. Where are we going with this?
- Brodels, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2great perspective and technique, but at the same time it's almost frustrating because you can't look at it for very long.
- travis1982, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2DAMN YOU SPYMAC...REPORTED!
- DarkSpartan, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2My eyes hurt now, but never before has eye pain been caused by something so awesome.
- craighoxton, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Any top tips for Toronto, DIGG readers?
- tramblings, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Yea, it's neat until I realize that it just makes me nauseous.
- Bahwoot, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Everything seems in sync (no tearing on LCDs, etc). This is just a few panorama shots and photoshop ? Kinda looks like fisheye lens with the camera pointed at sky.
- craighoxton, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2I'm not moving for the weather...it's for the two loves in my life: my Canadian girlfriend and Mill Street beer.
- Heavypettingzoo, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Dude I miss Toronto too... But moving to Hong Kong was a amazingly good move....except for the aggressive concrete jungle and limited green space here - that's what i miss most about TO.
- musters, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2I lived in Chicago for 4 years, and then Toronto after. Even when crime rates are "bad" in Toronto, it is still one of the safest cities in the world. There isn't even any comparison.
- WillyWonka, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2As an Oakville resident I have to ask, what would you want to check out in Oakville? The rich persons house south of lakeshore with the baseball diamond in the backyard?
Or the $17 000 000 house that the head of Microsoft Canada built and never moved into because his wife was allergic to the glues used in the floors? - Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2maybe, but he wouldn't have had to move much. The city is one of the cleaner.
- Viroz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1sign me in for that *****
- Diderotten, on 04/29/2008, -3/+4Enjoy it now before James Bond ruins it ands turns the place all red.
- Velnich, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1You haven't been to very many cities.
- musters, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Unless your bat swings the other way.
Not quite sure what you mean "Specially at night." though.
I'd say don't wander East past Jarvis at night, unless you're in a crowd. Other than that blight, Toronto is a safe almost everywhere downtown. - showtime1982, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1whaever, the leafs still suck! go flames!
- Ebeniz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1NO IT'S NOT
- Velnich, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Ooo, neat.
- WhatsUpWithJack, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1When I saw it, I shat brix.
- strupatn, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1I can see my old building.
- Jeffler, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Way too much slush. This year was the first year we had consistent snow in like a decade.
- musters, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Haha, I wish I could save up Diggs just so I could give you 100 right now. Brilliant!
