- theaceoface, on 07/06/2009, -3/+36All on one page: Just hit print
- Ghostwo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+30Dugg for first image of water slide. Damn!
- sandersdamnit, on 07/06/2009, -2/+29Kingda Ka is a Top Thrill Dragster ripoff.
- inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+24I NEED to ride that zero-gravity coaster.
As for dangerous alpine slides, the one they used to have at Pico Mountain in Killington, VT, was notorious. It did corkscrews through birch trees, inches on each side, and injuries were not that uncommon. It was great though. - darknecross, on 07/07/2009, -0/+23Must be some line.
- cptcliche, on 07/07/2009, -0/+20I like how they say "Most Dangerous Human Trebuchet." I wonder where the world's safest one is
- udayd, on 07/07/2009, -0/+20man, i wish i could have experienced action park...sounds like a blast with a hilarious wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Park - photohunter, on 07/06/2009, -0/+20Action Park truly was an amazing place that will never be able to exist again. I remember the cliff dives! Seriously. What were they thinking? Cliff diving! Over a swimming pool.
- Natendo64, on 07/06/2009, -0/+17human trebuchet? that wont end well
- MikaStar, on 07/07/2009, -0/+13Actin Park sounds like that most awesomest thing ever :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_Park#Grass_ski ...
Apparently they also sold beer to park patrons as they jumped off 30 ft cliffs on to swimmers below...crazy. - inactive, on 07/06/2009, -0/+12Sadly, if it was still around I WOULD try it! Come on, you know you'd be tempted, it's got a big net at the end!
- thefangedrabbit, on 07/06/2009, -1/+13I've been on both Kingda Ka and an alpine slide. Neither is that scary, and I'm even afraid of heights. Kingda Ka is over so fast you barely even know it happens; I didn't even find it that entertaining. And alpine slides are much easier than that makes it look.
- bongo, on 07/07/2009, -0/+11I know! I loved the cliff dive. And when they said "most dangerous amusement rides" I totally thought of the looping waterslide. I never saw it open, but it looked awesome. And then there was the Alpine Slide, a ride that you could seriously injure yourself on if you let the cart go full speed all the way. And the waterslide that was so steep that my body floated off of it on the way down. Such an awesome place.

JERSEY REPRESENT! - buddamus, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8They missed Digger Land!
http://www.diggerland.com/ - snareguy17, on 07/06/2009, -1/+9I want to go on 3/5.
I know you all care. - ShootTheCore, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Kingda Ka spends more time shut than open. As a ride it's just too complex, so many systems that can go wrong, especially with the hydraulic launch.
Glad to see Traction Park got so many mentions, that looping water slide looks like an absolute death trap! - ameba, on 07/07/2009, -1/+8yeah kindga ka is like 20 seconds long. hardly worth the 2 hour wait
- cuervoman914, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7top thrill dragster in cedar point is the same thing, just a little bit shorter and without the up and down hills at the end. just fyi if it makes any difference.
- Xwhy, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6I remember the commercials. I never made it there.
- mister331, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6For 66 bucks plus possible medical fees? No way in hell would I do it.
- majortom1981, on 07/07/2009, -0/+6El toro at the same park is much better.
- TeamBaldwin, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6Its worse even. I'd rather have a smaller, slower version with lap bars than a faster version with over-the-head restraints
- photohunter, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5Acapulco Cliffs! If this wasn't just like 10 years ago, and millions of people didn't solidly remember it, it would all be chalked up to urban legend. But alas--this place was real.
- PointGiven, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5I'm not surprised that Traction Park made the list twice. It closed when I was 12 but I had some good times there
- adraft, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5It would be awesome if there was no net to catch you but instead you were in a wired up harness, so you'd get thrown into the air and then (hopefully) gently caught by the harness. That's not a great description of what I'm thinking of, but whatever.
- zdevil26, on 07/07/2009, -0/+5You know you aren't a real New Jerseyan if you don't have a scar from Traction Park.
- morphinapg, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4it's hardly smaller either. TTD is 420 ft and Kingda Ka is 456 ft. TTD goes 120 mph, Kingda Ka 128 mph. Not enough of a difference for me, although the hill after the drop looks cool.
- BMcClure937, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5Top Thrill Dragster is the original... the Kingda Ka is a copycat that came afterward. (yes, they added a little bump or two after the main launch/drop but same concept)
- Travelsonic, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4Dugg for Action Park.
The spirit still haunts the majority of the original rides from Roaring Springs/Waterworld are still there from the Action Park days.
In fact, most of Waterworld / Roaring Springs is still there in tact.
Went there the other day, first time in 13 years, Colorado Rapids - 4 grown adults - BAAAAAAAAD idea. Nearly got bucked off the ride a couple of times, heads met a few time. Had one hell of a headache afterwards thanks to the head collisions. (You never forget the high speed impacts, I'm telling you)... not as exciting a near wipeout as on the rapids ride, but still gives you a sense of thrill unmatched in many places today.
Came but a hair from losing my tube on The Gauley
Fact is, most of the Action Park originals are still there - couple have been heavily modified, one that hasn't been torn up is closed, but the vestiges of Action Park have not died by any stretch of the imagination. The action never stopped. Period. I'm calling it Action Park, despite the name/owner change. - tehrich, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4While it's fun, I don't think Kingda Ka is worth the 2+ hour wait that is inevitable on weekends. The ride is an awesome 30 seconds, but to be honest the zero-g it talks about feels like nothing more than a hill on any other coaster. Also, I wouldn't call it a vomit comet, since even the extremely fast launch is nice and smooth. It's actually quite a tame ride.
</buzz kill> - analreceiver, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4You can also install Auto-pager, an add-on for firefox that opens the next page of the article as you scroll down. It works like a charm in most cases.
- inactive, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5It still exists, as do most of the water slides, and that Alpine Slide. I was there two years ago. It's now called Mountain Creek.
- iwhitness, on 07/07/2009, -1/+5is anyone not able to get to the second page? mine won't load at all.
- Myztry, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4The looping slide would be a death trap. Perhaps it could work for a while IF the water managed to have the momentum to make it through the loop, but otherwise the water would pool in the bottom of the loop - stopping and drowning the rider.
- Fazaman, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Ah, the alpine slide. I have a scar on my side that attests to it's awesomeness.
- Macgyrl64, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Looking for the next Darwin Award winner.
- supguy, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3When are people going to start linking only the print pages? Multi-page anything is annoying.
- sarixe, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Dugg for excellent things that used to exist in North Jersey. RIP

That's a lengthy article describing Action Park. One of the funniest things I've read in ages.
Here's a sample:
"ACTION PARK WAS DESIGNED TO HURT PEOPLE
I remember my only visit to Action Park as a kid and remember hurting myself several times and witnessing everyone in my party get injured as well. Before I go into detail, allow me to remind you of a few specifics.
I remember the upside down water slide called the "Cannonball Loop." It really should have been called "absurdity." I was about 11 at the time and could have told anyone or the designing engineer, for that matter, that it was a not only a liability but a horribly bad idea. Could you imagine pushing a 250-pound whale of a kid through there a few hundred times a day? Statistically, it was bound to destroy some unlucky child.
It does not surprise me that I still remember all these details––the park looked like it deliberately was designed to injure people. The rope swings in particular had large boulders strategically placed in a large pile underneath the platform and a portion of the small pool that people would be landing in.
The river rapids ride was great. Under-inflated and overloaded rafts would slam into walls and sharply-angled concrete. On one of these turns, my friend’s mother, as the raft literally buckled in half like a taco, flew into his knee and BROKE her nose. Blood was pouring out all over and the lady supposedly watching for injuries looked like she couldn’t give a crap.
I also remember a cage in the park where you could put on a parachuting suit and actually fly through the air. I did not try it––I had already seen enough.
– Greg Shpunder" - natecohen, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Yeah and it's much bumpier. I had the worst headache ever after getting off KK.
I've been on TTD like 15 times and never had a headache. - secrity, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2It still looks like an impossible loop to go around without getting stuck in. It looks like it could be a joke of some sort.
- tidu, on 07/07/2009, -1/+3I was too much of a pussy to ride Kingda Ka, I also didn't want to wait in a 3.5 hour line...
- ShootTheCore, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2They should have the Crystal Beach Cyclone on here, now THAT thing caused some serious injuries. Nurse permanently employed in the station.
- ShingoEX, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2Already didn't end well.
- escottberg, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I've been waiting to ride Kingda Ka ever since I moved to the east coast!
- renegadeafk, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I've been on that same alpine slide in VT numerous times, never been hurt:P just don't go too fast and lose control like a moron.
And don't wear shorts. -
