- Kavalier, on 12/15/2008, -61/+452And yet only 30% Think Bush is doing a good job... You'd think those two numbers would be in lock step.
- AmyVernon, on 12/15/2008, -7/+379OK, it's clear the article is a joke, but is it based on an actual poll? Please tell me no. No.
- dse78759, on 12/15/2008, -4/+279"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future, for our [children]" --Lauren Caitlin Upton, 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant
- dse78759, on 12/15/2008, -7/+243No, the illegals know how to find the country. That's how they got here.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -14/+208"incapable of identifying their home country on a map of the United States."
It would be rather difficult to fail at the task you've described. It would be kindof a give away if all you had to choose from was your country on a map of the united states. What did they do? Point to the ocean? - inactive, on 12/15/2008, -4/+176Onion reject.
- radu79, on 12/15/2008, -1/+122There is no way this is for real.
I was expecting it to be from The Onion, but even so, no one would say:
""That thing definitely looked familiar," said autoworker and father of three Ed McConnell. "And my gut told me there were probably a whole bunch of Americans there. So I had to go with 'Iraq.'"" - artfiend77, on 12/15/2008, -17/+121No, this can't be true...I refuse to belive people are *that* stupid. Blind patriotism, but you don't even know where your country is? I call *****.
- laserviking, on 12/15/2008, -2/+90*Throws shoes at you*
- luke374, on 12/15/2008, -5/+86Did any of you actually read the article? It's a joke.
- SwedishNinja, on 12/15/2008, -15/+95I was wondering how long it would take someone to equate the research findings with Bush's approval rating. First post, not bad. You win an internet.
- 1longtime, on 12/15/2008, -2/+80It's a joke, but of course everyone is about to rant about the ignorant Americans anyway.
- Samadhi007, on 12/15/2008, -4/+67I'm just tickled pink how most of you can't recognize satire unless it's from the Onion.
- noizeuk, on 12/15/2008, -6/+68"Personally, I believe if fewer people in this world could spot America on a map, we'd have a much better chance of avoiding national tragedies like 9/11," said Chertoff. "You can't attack a country you can't find."
Im pretty sure its people who aren't from America who know where it is and where to bomb it. So far I can see that this hasn't worked.
Funny though xD - IphtashuFitz, on 12/15/2008, -5/+65If somebody walked up to me on the street, showed me a map of the USA, and asked me "Where is America?" I'd more than likely decide to screw with them and simply point to something other than the map. I'd feel like it's an insult to my intelligence and therefore I'd want to screw with them and their results.
The fact that when asked, some people describe the map as "The Shire" makes me think I'm not the only one with that opinion. - allaboutdatiki, on 12/15/2008, -5/+63What percentage of folks don't know their left from their right? :)
- Lucas123, on 12/15/2008, -10/+63Are we sure they were referring to America on a geographical level and not ideological one when the respondents said, "Where is America?"
- DrVic, on 12/15/2008, -5/+58Are we talking about the "real America" or that other America?
- darkfate, on 12/15/2008, -0/+51The guy who wrote the article also does articles for The Onion, so it essentially is.
- subliminalurge, on 12/15/2008, -16/+61It's a huffington post article. Of course it's *****.
- Flashypoo, on 12/15/2008, -1/+37Was hoping someone would use this.
- breadfred, on 12/15/2008, -9/+43Those immigrants know where America is. They ***** FOUND IT. Now put the average American in a third world country, without their credit cards, let's see if they can find their own country back.
- flamesrule, on 12/15/2008, -9/+40I thought HuffPo wanted to be taken seriously? Is this the kind of crap we can expect them to write just to remain on the front page of Digg? They see that The Onion gets referenced a lot, but they need to stop copying them. I wonder if the VC's that just dumped a monster round of funding into the Post are laughing.
- thelastcivilian, on 12/15/2008, -3/+31It's tagged "Satire." Of course it's *****.
- Sonan, on 12/15/2008, -0/+28Or like when a bunch of college females were asked to sign a petition to end women's suffrage, and most of them did.
- Kerrigore, on 12/15/2008, -4/+30It's a joke, but the sad thing is, it took me until about a third of the way through the article before I realized it. Whether that says something about me or about America, I'm not sure, but I suspect the latter.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -3/+28I have a hard time believing this.
Actually, I have a hard time picturing the lack of intelligence needed for this. - tombonneau, on 12/15/2008, -1/+2692% of Digg Users Unable to Recognize Satire
- Thousand, on 12/15/2008, -0/+24It was her huge personalities, wasn't it?
- starcasm, on 12/15/2008, -27/+51I'm sure Sarah Palin is included in this percentage.
- Barackalypse, on 12/15/2008, -6/+30All Huffpo "articles" are jokes, its the sad state of "journalism" these days.
- reddcell, on 12/15/2008, -0/+22I dated a girl who still did the "which hand makes a capital L" thing from time to time.
I didn't date her for her brains. - Bitties, on 12/15/2008, -12/+3350% of statistics are made up on the spot.
- MistrBrownstone, on 12/15/2008, -2/+23You realize that it can be satire without being an Onion article right?
- u8eR, on 12/15/2008, -1/+20I didn't know the Huffington Post did satire.
- funkymoose, on 12/15/2008, -8/+26"huffingtonpost"
- MistrBrownstone, on 12/15/2008, -4/+22Apparently, all 3 of you are in the 30% that don't get the joke.
- MaynardJK, on 12/15/2008, -5/+22Two continents actually.
- carbonfilament, on 12/15/2008, -2/+19Its at least 60%. Where are you getting your numbers from? I call *****.
- Testiculese, on 12/15/2008, -0/+17I was artichoked to the quote, myself.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -0/+17The answer of "The Shire" is pretty much a give away that either:
A). The article is a joke
or
B). The people answering the poll were doing it as a joke
I mean, nobody seriously thinks they live in Middle-Earth, well outside of some LARP'ers maybe. - dajuggernaut, on 12/15/2008, -2/+18GOLD!
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -14/+30AMERICA ***** YEAH!
dugg for AMERICA in the title...ah ***** wait. - MaynardJK, on 12/15/2008, -2/+17We should euthanize people that can't recognize satire.
- inactive, on 12/15/2008, -2/+17This is your left, that's your left, this is your right, that's you're right, this is your left, that's your left, this is your right, YOU'RE GONNA DIE!
- dajuggernaut, on 12/15/2008, -1/+16the election was over a month ago... stop polluting Digg
- thelastknowngod, on 12/15/2008, -14/+2937% sounds like it could be possible if they are polling retards and infants. they are americans too and every vote counts. right?
you can get a poll to do whatever you want to do just by who you ask and how you ask it.
this is stupid.. - tmonsta1, on 12/15/2008, -9/+24sorry, but I'm of the mindset that illegal immigrants probably know exactly where America is on a map, because they had to find it. Or do you think they just started heading north until they got to the place where most people spoke a different language.
I'm gonna chalk this one up to "small town" America. They know where the crick is... but they don't know where the country ends... or starts. You know, Palin supporters... - Dismember, on 12/15/2008, -1/+16and 60% of the time, it works every time.
- specialK16, on 12/15/2008, -11/+25Wow butthurt anti-immigrant. First you assume MOST immigrants don't speak English, then, which is 10 times worst, you make a ridiculous statement saying their history would be learned in 30 secs (what the ***** are you trying to say, and then you assume they are ignorant and stupid.
Yes yes yes, you Americans are perfect, all of you are very smart, one of you is better than all immigrants combined.... blah blah blah, blame the immigrant.
***** you, and get off your high horse. -
