- suxmonkey, on 11/21/2008, -0/+22My personal favorite is and always will be Kowloon Walled City. A fictional writer couldn't come up with a more amazingly diverse, hodge-podge lawless pit of insanity. Shame they finally 'dozed the whole thing down.
- WordsnCollision, on 11/21/2008, -0/+21Abandoned cities... they're not just for the Mayans anymore.
- ncapone, on 11/21/2008, -1/+14As an urban decay photographer, some of these cities are my wet dreams.
- StigNordas, on 11/21/2008, -0/+11That Taiwan village is WAY creepy!
- WHOAA, on 11/21/2008, -0/+11Where did everybody go?!
- MisterGnome, on 06/13/2009, -0/+11Detroit, MI.
- RolanNorth, on 11/21/2008, -0/+10I WANT TO DIVE THAT ONE IN EGYPT
- techguru2006, on 11/21/2008, -0/+9Villa Lago Epecun, Argentina must have been a lovely place to live before it went abandoned.
- P4NNY, on 11/21/2008, -1/+8Pripyat should be on that list.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prypiat,_Ukraine - LanceUppercut, on 11/21/2008, -1/+7I wanted to read descriptions and click something if it interested me, not be shown a bunch of ***** thumbnails and from those decide if I wanted to investigate further.
- apackofmonkeys, on 11/21/2008, -0/+640-year underground mine fire? I think we've found the reason for global warming right there.
- FreckleEars, on 11/21/2008, -0/+5Now it's a ghost town
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+550,000 people used to live here
- FreckleEars, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4I know that abandoned towns are creepy, but somewhat close to where I live there is a town that used to have 4,000 people and now just has about 200. When I worked in this town, that is literally 300km from the nearest police station, my crew and I got very creeped out, and around dusk every day there I halted work early to get the ***** out.
There was another town (Lord's Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador) that used to have about 6 roads in, but only had two left. The maps, that my crew had were out of date by 50 years so when we went there and tried to leave when the thick fog rolled in, we couldn't find a way out for about an hour. Creepy as hell. The GPS never helped either. To add to that, there were no trees in the area, the town was in a valley bay that had no cell reception, and we could literally hear little kids playing in the background. At one point, one of my crew walked out to check a transformer on a pole when a dog with red eyes ran at him full speed growling just to bring up in its chain about 2m from him. I never seen a grown man jump and run so fast in my life! I can't make this stuff up.
The moral is abandoned towns are scary, but just about abandoned ones with fog at night... way worse. - punchinelli, on 11/21/2008, -0/+4I like the part where the pictures are 300 x 300
- jbmcb, on 11/21/2008, -0/+31980 called, it wants it's joke back.
- kinerry, on 11/21/2008, -1/+4I was gonna dig this down for lack of centralia....but it's right there :)
- dano333333, on 11/21/2008, -0/+3Funny, I have wonderful dreams where I wake up and everyone went back to where they came from.
- toekneebullard, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Weburbanist always does this. Talks about these amazing locations, and then shows tiny pictures.

- staffell, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2ok
- skatoolaki, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2This is awesome; I had no idea there were so many "modern" abandoned cities. For anyone that's interested, there is also the ghost town of Rodney, Mississippi. ^_^
- reddevild, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2agreed, dugg for Centralia, can't believe that they didnt mention that the fire has enough coal to burn for over 200 more years (with no intention to ever put it out)
- inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2I have nightmares about waking up and no one is left in my town. Spooky, creepy and disconcerting.
- mwalker05, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2between this and left 4 dead can we just start the zombie apocalypse already. seriously i am tired of college and work. i want to live in a world where my day consists finding innovative ways to prepare food, fortifying a bunker, and killing zombies.
- shoegazer666, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Looks like fallout 3! and CoD 4 for the Azerbaijan pics.
- SeanCallan, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1It is briefly mentioned.
- Volatile36, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1That's why OCP presents to you:
DELTA CITY!
Jobs! No crime! Corporate overlords! The American dream... - inactive, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Makes you want to take 'em and call them home.
- skatoolaki, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1I've never heard of Kowloon, but it sounds fascinating. Thanks for the info, I'm going to look it up.
- crackintosh, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Some good places to hide out.
- FreckleEars, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Agreed! The layout was horrible. It took way to long to check out all of the places. I guess it was just a way for the web site to put up more advertising for the same content.
- foxtrot3, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1I've been to Bodie. It's in the middle of nowhere, but it's a fascinating place and worth the trip.
- skatoolaki, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Not sure why they did it - possibly because they are in a blog and not a website and content arrangement is limited. I agree, though, it was difficult to navigate.
- cmotdibbler, on 11/21/2008, -1/+2Detroit will soon be on this list.
- captainbethany, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1do you have a flickr for me to browse?
- sugablonde, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1soon to be in Ohio too...at least in my area.
- ktk1336, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1From the few that I checked out (including Centralia), I don't think they gave us nearly enough detail.
- captainbethany, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1pretty nice - thanks for sharing! i like the 3rd set best.
- reddoggie, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1This article needed higher res photos and more of them per location to click through.
- toekneebullard, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Weburbanist: Awesome pictures, if they weren't so retardedly small.
- ShiftyBizniss, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Toronto and Vancouver
- 3Y3CON, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Weburbanist has been putting out a number of good articles lately.
- kraftj, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1Ghost towns always make me think of that one Brady Bunch episode where the crazy guy locks them in a jail cell.
- luisedisonrana, on 03/10/2009, -0/+0Interesting stuff. picture of Cairo is very scary, looks like the town I live in now and the town I grew up in
http://www.extendedstaymotel.info/ - ifruit, on 11/21/2008, -0/+0Need more input!
- sandraprinsloo1, on 02/17/2009, -0/+0Fascinating. Another destination to add to my list of places to see.
