- L0NER, on 07/20/2009, -0/+9What were we doing out here? What was the meaning of this trip? Did I actually have a big red convertible out there on the street? was I just roaming around these Mint Hotel escalators in a drug frenzy of some kind, or had I really come out here to Las Vegas to work on a story?
- gllopc, on 07/20/2009, -1/+82 girls + 1 bourbon and scotch (in 1 cup) = 1 great time.
Yup - you're right. - fotoman607, on 07/20/2009, -1/+8This is pretty cool too. A map of all the casinos throughout history and a bunch of casino implosions too:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/history/ - gasoline, on 07/21/2009, -1/+5The town will never be the same. After the Tangiers, the big corporations took it all over. Today it looks like Disneyland. And while the kids play cardboard pirates, Mommy and Daddy drop the house payments and Junior's college money on the poker slots. In the old days, dealers knew your name, what you drank, what you played. Today, it's like checkin' into an airport. And if you order room service, you're lucky if you get it by Thursday. Today, it's all gone. You get a whale show up with four million in a suitcase, and some twenty-five-year-old hotel school kid is gonna want his Social Security Number.
- lostlyrics, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3vegas is for leeches good at math

- Ellipsys, on 07/21/2009, -0/+3My grandparents lived a block or two off Vegasworld (what is now the Stratosphere) and we visited them often throughout the 80s and 90s. These days I take the trip by myself whenever I can. As others have mentioned, the first part of that video is Fremont Street, which is pretty much the same as it was then except now you've got a huge dome over part of it and no vehicle traffic. Lots of the old, cheap casinos are still open. If you want a bargain, don't mind nixing some of the pretentiousness of the Strip, and intend to gamble (as there isn't much else to do), those are great places to stay.
Strip has changed quite a bit as all the new MGM-Mirage properties have sprung up (Mirage, MGM Grand rebuilt to be the largest hotel in Vegas..at least at once point, Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay etc..) the "new theme" hotels like the Luxor, Excalibur, Paris, and NewYorkNewYork, and top-dollar inns with varying tastes like the Bellagio, Wynn, and Venetian. Still, if you want to go to the older hotels like the Riviera, Flamingo, Tropicana, and Circus Circus, they're still waiting for you.
Decide what kind of Vegas experience you want, and I encourage everyone to go at least once. Any questions about Vegasand I'll try to answer them. Thus far I don't see any actual locals here, so I'll do the best I can. - Batfishy, on 07/21/2009, -0/+2I love those smells!
- frontaxle, on 07/20/2009, -0/+2I'd take that over WHEEL-- OF-- FORTUNE all the way to the airplane
- gasoline, on 07/21/2009, -1/+3Yeah, right:

- BREZZZ, on 07/20/2009, -1/+3And people who are good at math and want to gamble a little and have a good time.
- bossm4n, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3Most of those hotels/casinos are still there, especially the ones downtown that appeared early in the video. You just can't drive down Fremont street anymore. The only one they showed the I know for sure that is gone is the Stardust. And the MGM completely burned down, but was rebuilt. It's all certainly much different now though.
- DteK, on 07/20/2009, -1/+2boooooooooo
- Conway, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3Wow. I didn't know Caesars Palace was that old. I thought it came in the 80s. (heehee)
- skipvt, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1I remember the Sliver Slipper Boy Lesque commercials... Gee, those girls sure do have big hands and large adams apples.
- Nick519, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1...or, you could just watch reruns of the late 1970s show, Vega$:

- MikeDirntRulez, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1If you plan on going to the Riviera, go soon!
They're defaulting on loans, not making interest payments, and removed their listing from the NYSE because they have lost so much money, they can't meet minimum listing standards.
Just a warning if any of you somehow liked that place. I never got to visit the Stardust or Frontier one last time before they got knocked down. - Lucas123, on 07/20/2009, -2/+3Cool vintage home movies. I visited Vegas in 1970, when I was 8. Remember it well.
Odd are, it'll just keep growing (if you know what I mean). - wachris, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1I live in Las Vegas,
That ***** sucks, all of it - Batfishy, on 07/21/2009, -0/+1In what way, paulmer2003?
- nedy78, on 07/21/2009, -1/+21966. Still one of the best casinos as far as I'm concerned.
- DiggMeUpPlz, on 07/21/2009, -0/+0No, actually I am good at math.
- mrogi, on 07/21/2009, -1/+1Back in those days, Lefty Rosenthal at the Stardust was the greatest casino executive on earth. Robert de Niro portrayed him perfectly in the movie, Casino.
- lostlyrics, on 07/21/2009, -1/+1yeah in 80 indeed, titus built. :D
- 4AntiStupid, on 07/20/2009, -1/+1Was that Super 8? Just needs the clatter of the projector for major nostalgia kick in.

I'd vote for them. - paulmer2003, on 07/20/2009, -8/+2Meh. Las Vegas, to me, represents so much that is wrong in America.
- inactive, on 07/20/2009, -7/+1You tried to hard
- DiggMeUpPlz, on 07/20/2009, -8/+1Vegas is for idiots who are not good at math.
