- sterntastic223, on 05/21/2008, -0/+24Thousand square foot? WTF I got 600 sqr feet.
- franklymister, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Where'd you get that giant space? Bed-Stuy? Most Manhattanites are happy to get four or five hundred sq. feet!
- glinsvad, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Guess I'll have to settle for a 108 square inches (that's 15" at 4:3)
- leonardutah, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I know people paying near three thousand a month for five hundred square feet on the upper west side. Damn you property tax!
- litkaj, on 05/21/2008, -2/+3Wow, that sucks. I thought my rent was high at $1200/mo for 1300 sq-ft in Exton, PA. I assume that salary doesn't scale up with rent in NYC which is why you are all complaining?
EDIT: Yup, not according to salary.com. 50th percentile for my profession here in PA is $90K and in NYC it's $101K.- bromac, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3You make $90k/year and you're still renting?
- eclipxe, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1I would say renting is a very attractive option nowadays. Save as much as possible until the market bottoms out and then buy. Why buy (even if you can afford it) if the values are going to drop dramatically?
- wellyuk, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3I'm not a property expert, as you all know, but renting is kind of dead money. While the price of your property will more than likely drop, if you keep your house for long enough, you're pretty much guaranteed that the price will eventually rise and you will get that money back plus more.
Myself, I'm going to buy a bad ass Winnebago and become a pikey.
- mister23, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1rent scales up a lot faster than salary, though.
- bromac, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3You make $90k/year and you're still renting?
- wanderingstan, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0$2000 for 230 square feet in East Village.
- DariusMonsef, on 05/21/2008, -0/+65Richard Branson is one smart cookie. He bought his island for only $100k back in the 70's and it now "rents for approximately $329,000 US dollars per week"
- spoogieking012, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1even with inflation its pretty good.
- Jpesci, on 05/21/2008, -1/+4but he developed it too.
- DermDoc, on 05/21/2008, -2/+16Da plane! Da plane!
- psogle, on 05/21/2008, -0/+7I would give anything to visit Musha Cay, wish i had a couple hundred grand to blow on a vacation with my friends
- ronfez, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3Well if you are a hot young female, Mr Copperfield might oblige.
- snohman, on 05/21/2008, -6/+6hey how did my vacation home get on here...
- sungoddess808, on 05/21/2008, -0/+10I'd love to have a nice little island in the tropics! =)
- guyincognitoo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1The one on ebay is still for sale, only 391k.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1 ...- fleischner, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Weird -- it says "EUR 250,000.00" at the top but "Offered for Twenty Five Million Euro" below.
- guyincognitoo, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1The one on ebay is still for sale, only 391k.
- allaboutdatiki, on 05/21/2008, -1/+5dugg for da tikis!
- philforhumanity, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4I wish I had money to buy one.. or two...
- AManWithNoName, on 05/21/2008, -1/+22FTA: "Also, Copperfield reportedly has found the “Fountain of Youth” on the Island…"
WTF? That is the lamest publicity stunt ever, and the sad part is that it's working.- geneticlone, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4He don't look to young to me.
- stranglethorne, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5mmmm i feel like taking a vacation
- Greatn3ss, on 05/21/2008, -5/+8"Feeling a little cramped in your thousand square foot Manhattan apartment? Got a few extra million to blow?"
Phew. I was worried there for a second that this article wouldn't appeal to the average digger.- frelk, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2Because all diggers are rich Manhattanites. Am I right people?
- Odenized, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2I couldn't imagine a better vacation spot than Cerralvo Island in Mexico. I've heard so much about it already, and this list just solidified it as a future vacation destination of mine.
- decepticrat, on 05/21/2008, -0/+7Pfft. I scoff at islands. I want me a small country... I bet I could get one of them slavic offshoots for a song. I'd rename it Decepticovia and only allow my people to play Wii sports and eat things that required both buns and condiments.
- Newportbeachguy, on 05/21/2008, -1/+6I need to become rich. But for now I'll just go home to my 300sqft studio apt; with frozen burritos in the freezer.
- CMfly, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6Unless your roommate already ate them!!!
- hermslice, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4YOU SON OF A BITCH....IT WAS YOU!!!!
- CMfly, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6Unless your roommate already ate them!!!
- homercles337, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6The first one in the list (Isla de sa Ferradura) doesnt look like an island to me.
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Eivissa,+Spain ...- fatTJ, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Tides?
- go5go, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Low tide.... I still call it an island..
- thankyoupatrick, on 05/21/2008, -1/+2#10 - Nygard Cay [Bahamas] - Think Robinson Caruso.
??? Crusoe ??? - Hetman, on 05/21/2008, -3/+6Instead of buying an island wouldnt it be easier just to build an army of about 50 people and take over 1 of the isands that is already owned by one of these people? It would be cheaper than purchasing one.
- diggit08, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3They are not countries. Just islands. learn the difference.
- cokaine, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2No Maldivian Island?? the list aint complete without one!!!
- busybenj, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3*whips out checkbook*
- jbmcb, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6Wow those are some nice private islands, unlike most private islands that are ratty and run-down :)
- hopeast, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2This reminds me of how broke I am...
- ConquistadorFor, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2gotta do something guys

- maninalift, on 05/21/2008, -0/+6Why isn't Tracy Island on here?
- Portwineboy, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3It has a girly name
- Kinjiru, on 05/21/2008, -3/+1Epic Fail for forgetting Nanuya Levu, arguably the most infamous private island in the world.
For those of you asking why.. look up Turtle Island and the movie The Blue Lagoon. - Xzn31, on 05/21/2008, -1/+5I won't feel so envious in a decade or so when rising oceans from global warming wipes these rich mofos out =)
- manu3l, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1or some weird tsunami.
- DevinOlsen, on 05/21/2008, -1/+3So where is the list of the 10 most luxurious private islands I CAN afford?
- xKorrix, on 05/21/2008, -0/+5How does one go about purchasing an island anyway?
- shortcircuit13, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1eBay.
- diggit08, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2Global warming will own these Islands.
- computerusr, on 05/21/2008, -0/+4$10,000,000 discount on all the islands if you heard about it on Digg.
- arlok789, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1Seriously... It is SWEET to be a mega millionaire.

- kitaljevich, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Wow.
http://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/ ... - johnmark9, on 05/21/2008, -3/+0The islands off of Dubai are only a few million, and there's still a few left!
http://wwww.mysecretadvantage.com - Superfreak77, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Inaccurate. Cerralvo can't be sold or be private since it's in Mexico. Laws don't allow private islands.
How many of these will be underwater in a decade due to global warming anyway?!, depreciation? - billbugger, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1do they come with flood insurance?
- guillebravo6, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1After global warming melts the icebergs none of the islands will exist, sucks for them, 25 billion down the drain!
- tombonneau, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Friggin' Copperfield.
- jza80nrx7, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Musha Cay isnt a bad deal if you get 12 people to go, only $2687 a day. Great magic investment Copperfield.
- plasma25, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Totally insane....look beautiful though :)
- Galaktik, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1wouhou ............... I definitely need holidays ! :-P
- BransonFan, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1I could enjoy one of those Bahamian islands!
- choonny, on 05/22/2008, -0/+0If one day I happen to be a millionaire......
What a nice vacation get away! - PALMARY, on 05/24/2008, -0/+0Private islands are by definition for the elite, when do you think you might see the "least of us" enjoying a life reserved by cultural values for the best off. To be important in capitalist culture conveniently defines you as being best off, and drives the reality that makes this haves and have not culture sustainable.
- BillionWishlist, on 06/26/2008, -0/+0I think I like singer Castle in Canada best! I will have to buy it when I starting making the big $$$!
