- NegativeIon, on 03/31/2008, -2/+19I hope this trend starts influencing 'normal' destinations through competition.
- JulieBrownfield, on 03/31/2008, -0/+10Wow. Ecocamp looks amazing. I guess I didn't really understand the range in accommodations while going green. Ecocamp was what I was thibking - bungalow tents - minus the luxury these seem to provide.
- apocalypse67, on 03/31/2008, -0/+8Too bad you used up a year's worth of carbon emissions from a typical car just getting to a place where you could "tread lightly".
- socialdork, on 03/31/2008, -0/+7On the more remote destinations, I truly hope they stay small and do not create eco travel sprawl. This list is great btw. From bungalows to 5 star hotel rooms.
- meandnips, on 03/31/2008, -0/+6So many vacations destinations, so little vacation... They all look quite wonderful to me, esp. Teniqua Treetops.
- rumplestiltz, on 03/31/2008, -0/+5This is a nice diverse list of vacation spots. Las Osas in Costa Rica relaxes me just thinking about it. Until I can get there, I'm going to have to do some eco-friendly camping in my area.
- sagat, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4From the title I assumed it was holiday destinations in Ireland.
- Hiji, on 03/31/2008, -0/+4How about Amsterdam? That's my kind of green.
- DWNTWNJB, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3Costa Rica here I come
- schizogony, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I'm sick of the overuse of the word "green."
- forsight, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3I like to smoke the green
- triskele, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3Here's one I was kind of hoping would make the list. I was lucky enough to get to spend 10 days there during a winter-session Tropical Marine Biology course. Amazing diving.

- inactive, on 03/31/2008, -1/+3I love all the Global Warming profiteers.
I will only go on vacations that have the Al Gore stamp of approval, you know the companies that he is invested in like the carbon credit facade. - hiPpymIck, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2FYI
Ideally, ecotourism should satisfy several criteria[2][3], such as:
* conservation of biological diversity and cultural diversity, through ecosystem protection
* promotion of sustainable use of biodiversity, by providing jobs to local populations
* sharing of socio-economic benefits with local communities and indigenous people by having their informed consent and participation in the management of ecotourism enterprises.
* tourism to unspoiled natural resources, with minimal impact on the environment being a primary concern.
* minimization of tourism's own environmental impact
* affordability and lack of waste in the form of luxury
* local culture, flora and fauna being the main attractions

- rheaume, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Come up to Vancouver and score a bag of our finest.
Oh. you mean Eco green... - bastardprince, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Terra means earth....
- puffinstuff, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1These are the antiVegas.
- mrloco, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I need to lay down the green as well tbh :P
- jcaino, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1You need to speak with Mr. Durden.
- anyone4apint, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1When I go there they give me everything they own and sign their kids collage fund over to me?! AWESOME!
- StigNordas, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Some like the desolation. They usually also have bomb shelters in their basements too.
- jayscot, on 03/31/2008, -1/+2Green = [My new marketing catchphrase to lure in the guilt-ridden dumbasses.]
- HealthyElijah, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1The single most important thing to help the environment is replace more meat with plants. It will also improve your health span as well.
- mstachiw, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1i thought by green it meant scenery like the 'great outdoors'... can't we change green to eco-friendly?
here's a green vacation... stay home or walk to your local park - jonnyboy1544, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I'm booking my ticket now on a green Boeing 747.
- Radar3D, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Agreed. Every time I contact someone in our Paris office they seem to be on holiday. Maybe I should transfer so I could enjoy these getaways!
- noisymime, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1From the heading I honestly thought this was about bank heist car chases with Toyota Pruis'
- VoodooPunk, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1I love it. It's hilarious to watch all the suckers willing to cough up outrageous amounts of cash to feel like they're saving the planet. It's the latest ad craze. Just stamp an "environmentally friendly" tag on anything and you can double the price. Never underestimate the gullibility of the masses.
- inactive, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1There are a lot of beautiful places here in America. I just came back from a trip through Northern California all the way to Washington state. It's also nearby, so not only can you see a bunch of green there, you can also bring some with you.
- protodon, on 03/31/2008, -1/+1Wyoming? I will never go to Wyoming, except to die.
- BandBgirl, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0While some of you are sick of all the "greenwashing" you see out there, BedandBreakfast.com just came up with a fabulous list of 10 eco-friendly B&Bs. Being small businesses, these B&Bs can really tailor their programs to be green without restrictions of what I call "black" corporate ownership. You can check out the Eco-Friendly B&Bs on BedandBreakfast.com's Press Room here http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/about/press.aspx?ye ... It's too long to list them all below.
- NikkiJade, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0nice. specific focus on contributing to conservation - in some cases, just protecting what is already there is not enough. Either way, promo'ing sustainable practices is fantastic.
Now we just need these to become international standards for tourist destinations :) - SergioValente, on 03/31/2008, -2/+2Nice to have the option, but honestly I enjoy the little containers of single-use ketchup and syrup with my room service.
- govindprasad01, on 04/08/2008, -0/+0really beautiful place to be inn, looks expensive . nothing so fresh then true nature. http://www.efeiz.com
- FlexibleFlyer88, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0i want to go to all these places
- NikkiJade, on 04/20/2008, -0/+0Agreed! Or even recreating the idea of what is "normal" for future generations. Competition would also help with pricing...the problem with many ecotourist destinations is they are all stereotyped as expensive (high start-up costs make that a truth for some) and therefore limit the audience - the majority of ecotourism is still stuck in the crowds of people with higher incomes & more education. (2006 study - David Weaver)
- lornali, on 04/01/2008, -0/+0ohhh - I need another vacation. But I have to say, these spots look expensive. Perhaps I should keep staying on the woven mats and in stilt huts...
- anyone4apint, on 03/31/2008, -2/+1Hotel Naming Rule #1: Never give your hotel a name that will scare the public into booking elsewhere.
"Hotel Terra" - nice. - thrikulam, on 03/31/2008, -7/+2Why is this site on Digg everyday? They never have any good articles... I can only conclude that feminists are digging them up.
Not to mention I see no Divine Caroline anywhere on the site. >|
