- iceman989, on 03/11/2009, -0/+31The 10 Must-See National Parks
1. The Smokies
2. The Grand Canyon
3. Yosemite
4. Yellowstone
5. Olympic
6. The Colorado Rockies
7. Zion
8. The Grand Tetons
9. Cuyahoga Valley
10. Acadia - rootlake, on 03/11/2009, -0/+20This list is absolutely incomplete without Bryce Canyon. Zion is excellent, but Bryce is just other-worldly:

- ns4eva, on 03/11/2009, -0/+14Why did they leave out Glacier National Park? I would pick that over MANY of those choices!
- insomniacal, on 03/11/2009, -0/+12Whew, 2 of my favorites aren't listed. I don't want the rest of y'all crowding them.
- shanghaikiwi, on 03/11/2009, -0/+8Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but who calls their national parks 'international parks'? Majority of nations have what are considered national parks. Therefore i assumed it was a collection of the best of these.
- EMFK, on 03/11/2009, -0/+8Excellent list!
If you ever have a chance to visit Washington state, visit the Hoh National Rainforest. Absolutely beautiful! - JimSwarthow, on 03/11/2009, -0/+7I'll be sure to take my time then
- JimSwarthow, on 03/11/2009, -0/+6I'm 8 out of 10 --- 2 to go before I die sounds very do'able
- micahned, on 03/11/2009, -1/+7My favorite park happens to be the LEAST traveled of all...Big Bend National Park, TX
- BananaStickers, on 03/11/2009, -0/+6There is nothing like going to the Olympics, driving up to Hurricane Ridge and looking out onto the Strait of Juan de Fuca....and then waving "hi" to Canada.
- bdbr, on 03/11/2009, -0/+5I would think that a "things to see before you die" list should be the BEST parks, not just the most visited.
- bdbr, on 03/11/2009, -0/+5The Smokies are pretty, but there are much more spectacular ranges out West.
- sq2shooter, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4Dugg because I can see the Rockies out my office window right now.
- inactive, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4Some of my best memories growing up are of hiking in Olympic National Park.
If you have the opportunity, hike to Lake of the Angels in the Hamma Hamma valley. Reach it via the Putvin trail.
It is the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. - Kosh, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5Dugg for the CO Rockies! I go there nearly ever summer and know the park like the back of my hand, it's a gorgeous place. Longs Peak is particularly excellent. Dugg also for Zion, I've always wanted to go to Angel's Landing.
- Coffeedemon, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5The point that I think he was making is that they're called National Parks in many different places. It has nothing to do with them being *your* nation's parks.
- thedivinelyevil, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5oh yea, because countries besides the US only have "international parks".
- adamroach, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4I have to agree. Glacier is amazing.
- shanghaikiwi, on 03/11/2009, -4/+8Well, for sure those were some good looking parks, but I was kinda hoping that it would have been a worldwide list....
- HiKevinRose, on 03/11/2009, -0/+4Interest in Glacier is drying up...
;D - lroche, on 03/11/2009, -1/+5Great list although as a Canadian (and former employee at a National Park) I'm biased to our National Parks.
- 68024, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3I've done 5. But I'm still young...
- inactive, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3#4: Advertisement is great. I've been there before and saw a few dwarf deer being eaten by wolverines.
- pathouston22, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3Somebody recently motivated me (with their life story from changing from a shy homebody to a traveler and free spirit) to get off my ass and start traveling. My excuse before was, there was nobody to do it with. Finding people who are willing to actually travel, drive, hike, bike, camp, whatnot is rare. Everybody claims they want to travel, *****.
So I started it doing it by myself. I've been to 10 Texas state parks and one national park this year alone so far, with plans to go to many many more. I was about to book a flight to Montana with cheap airfares as of late, until I found out how much car rental was going to ***** me in the ass for being under 25.
The only cost is gas and a few supplies - its very cheap to go traveling. - Skurt, on 03/11/2009, -7/+10To be fair, it does say 'National' parks and not International parks.
- ns4eva, on 03/11/2009, -1/+4Unless my eyes are failing me, the site says "The 10 Must-See National Parks", not "Most Visited". Regards...
- neognostic, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3But don't forget your raincoat and boots, it is the wettest place in the U.S., but you are right incredible. There was a big omission on the list of Denali in Alaska, it should have been in the top 5.
- superkendall, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3It's nice but a little monotone compared to the parks on the list, which offer more variety - if you like stark you'd also like the Badlands in South Dakota, which I prefer to Joshua Tree. Or, Death Valley which also has some variety and even an interesting section of joshua trees if you take the road out to the Racetrack from Ubehebe Crater.
- ImOscar, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3These are the 10 most visited. Everybody has their favorites and has a top 10 list that will look a little different. The take away here is that there is an amazing variety of natural landscape to explore in the US. Hopefully this inspires some people to take advantage of our National Park system and appreciate nature.
- pathouston22, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3Well, this thread is about traveling to national parks, not Europe, overseas, or cities.
- ryleyleckie, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3you forgot Advertisement
- HiKevinRose, on 03/11/2009, -0/+3Thanks, all that ***** among the pictures made it annoying to look through.
I've only seen the Rockies, Zion and the Grand Canyon but they were all gorgeous. I was a little surprised at Bryce's exclusion because it's a very unique place. If you're planning a tour of the west, Bryce will leave some lasting memories. - inactive, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2The Lake District
/thread - amcnair, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2When you go to Smoky, climb Chimney Tops in the morning. It gets crowded in the afternoon, but it is spectacular and a must-see. If you are any kind of hiker, you can make it to the top, regardless of the scary signs about dangerous rocks. Just don't do it when the ground is wet.
- cresswga, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2I agree.
I personally preferred Bryce to the Grand Canyon. I spent a very enjoyable day hiking there. - volitor8555, on 03/11/2009, -3/+5Because it was a list of the most visited national parks. Not which ones you would pick.
- amcnair, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2I've been to a bunch of national parks in the US and Canada, and Acadia National Park is one of the coolest places I've ever been.
I'd add Badlands National Park in South Dakota as well.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/amcnair/2809595720/si ... - danielrh9, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2You can't beat The Smokies. Tennessee is one of the most gorgeous states in the U.S.
- diggduggjoe, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2You better be quick! At the rate we are going into debt, we will be selling them to the highest bidder in short order.
- chesterogilvie, on 03/11/2009, -1/+3The no gun policy does suck but that's a ***** attitude to have.
- ldkronos, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2How about Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park?
Granted, there's a good reason it's called that. They took Glacier NP in the US and Waterton NP in Canada and sort of merged them into one park. - brucealmighty, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Hmmm....turns out I lived for several years in the Cuyahoga Nat. Park, altho back in the 80's before it was designated as an N.P. Always did like that area......
- Namakemono, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Don't forget Redwood NP, Sequoia NP, and Arches NP. I'm a NP junkie and have hiked most of the NPs in the west. I'm looking forward to seeing Smoky Mountains when I head out east in May.
- edcrosay, on 03/11/2009, -0/+2Ken Burns has a new 6-part, 12-hour documentary called "The National Parks: America's Best Idea" coming out in September. I went to a preview of it, and it was pretty awe-inspiring.
Crater Lake should have made this list as well. Definitely a must-see. - Phearce, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1This list must be based strictly on "number of visitors" and no other criteria. Which is insane. I grew up in a town bordering Cuyahoga National Park. Granted it's pretty, but to include it on a list alongside any of these others is just nuts.
- Adam420, on 03/13/2009, -0/+1Yeah I have been to most in the USA, and Glacier is easily one of my favorites.
- Zique, on 03/14/2009, -0/+1Dude, you need do watch more zombie movies.
- inactive, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1Amen brother.
- edcrosay, on 03/11/2009, -0/+1Travel to Oregon and Washington and you will change your mind.
