- ScottMcIntyre, on 07/07/2009, -0/+11Phew... seeing these photos is extreme enough exercise for me- let alone running 26 miles and 385 yards! ;-) The Polar Circle Marathon looks kinda chilly...
- missinglink, on 07/07/2009, -0/+8Methinks all marathons are extreme.
- ftx437, on 07/07/2009, -0/+7Did anyone see the ultra marathon Mike Verdonk ran, he did 106 miles in 22 1/2 hours to to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.

- lroche, on 07/07/2009, -0/+4They should have included the Antarctic Ice Marathon: www.icemarathon.com.
- Linguo, on 07/07/2009, -1/+4I just had a quesadilla eating marathon for lunch. These people are all jealous of me.
- NoodlePDX, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Surprised they didn't include the Rock'n'Roll Marathon: Las Vegas Edition. I'm training for this to be my first marathon and first trip to Sin City...unfortunately the race is on Sunday, which throws a little damper on the weekend festivities.
http://las-vegas.competitor.com/ - hunterzyph, on 07/07/2009, -0/+3Very cool. Ran the Rock'n'roll Marathon this past May. Great experience with the 18 weeks of training leading up to it.
- AmericanGunner, on 07/07/2009, -1/+3Not a marathon, but may I suggest muddy buddy...
- MonteStarloz, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2how many people get trampled at these events?
- arxe41, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Agreed - badwater is the toughest of the tough
- paperclipsNsoup, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I still think completing the Pacific Coast Trail is way more impressive.
- IIECONII, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1I love how between the start and the goal of Badwater, there is a point called "Darwin".
About half-way through that race you're probably thinking you're going to win this year's Darwin Award. lol - decker12, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Why wasn't The Barkley Marathon included? This ***** separates the boys from the men:
http://www.mattmahoney.net/barkley/ - Rethcir, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1Great Boston Beer Marathon - 26 bars in one day. Something like 2000 participants this year. Always a blast.
- Julian88888888, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1most of these really weren't that extreme....
now ULTRA-marathons, those are pretty extreme. - Raptor007, on 07/07/2009, -2/+3Marathon
Marathon 2: Durandal
Marathon Infinity
Marathon Evil
Marathon Rubicon
Marathon Red
Marathon Tempus Irae
Marathon Morgana's Revenge
Marathon Eternal
I'm only coming up with 9. What's the other extreme Marathon? - squishee, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1In his book Ultra Marathon Man, Dean Karnazes talks about how the first time he did Badwater his shoes started to melt because the pavement was so hot. Apparently you have to run on the white road lines to make your shoes last longer... :-/
- Trigonometron, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1who dares bury that epic comment? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
- jm5chn, on 07/08/2009, -1/+1...at a really quick first glance, i thought the title read "10 Extreme Masturbations Around the World..FML
- Trigonometron, on 07/07/2009, -2/+1Buried for no Marathon 2: Durandal
