About
A genuine warrior-poet, Jim O'Ferrell formed The J.O.B. upon returning from combat in Iraq in 2008. The band's core is Jim as the acoustic guitar/vocalist and Jason Crawford playing electric guitar. Some talented drummers and bassists have collaborated with The J.O.B. on various projects with a few appearing on the credits of the band's two nationally released CDs. After recent restructuring, the rhythm section of today's J.O.B. is Justin Poroszok on bass and Steve Payne on drums.
Jim composed the music and lyrics for the 1st album 'Back to the World' during his spare time while conducting HUMVEE guntruck patrols while serving as an Infantryman in the war in Iraq. Upon his return to the US, he teamed up with Jason, found rhythm players, and went into the studio. The CD was released in January 2009. From this first album, 'El Dorado' emerged on the national scene on March 16, 2010. New Music Weekly tracked the song at #22 on the Up & Coming Top 40 Chart based upon total spins of national radio play by licensed broadcasters. (New Music Weekly uses the Spins Tracking System [STS] and is the recognized world leader in broadcast radio industry publications.)
The band's 2nd album, titled '231 (two thirty one)' and released in March 2010, is a concept album about the urban legend of Locomotive 231, a famous event in the history of the band's hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Jim composed all the melodies and lyrics for this project as well. Again, with Jason Crawford's gifted lead guitar writing and playing ability, the pair enlisted the talents of friends and local musicians and hit the recording studio.
A single, titled '1925', from their new album broke onto the national charts on September 17, 2010, debuting at #24 on the National Up & Coming Top 40 Chart (NMW 9/17/10). Within 5 weeks of appearing on the chart, '1925' climbed to the #1 spot on the National Up & Coming Top 40.
The band has an energetic Modern Americana Rock sound with an 'old school' feel that everyone can listen to. The J.O.B. is currently booking venues, tours, festivals, and other opportunities to perform. — Richmond, VA
