- compulsive1, on 06/15/2009, -1/+91Please, do it. It seems to get worse every few years.
Michelle Larcher Debrito (I call her Screacher Despico) screams solely as a tactic to unnerve her opponent. This is called Hindrance and it should be treated as such by the officials. Her screams last all the way to the moment the ball gets to her opponent. It's disgusting. By the way, apparently she practices silently. - Markers, on 06/16/2009, -0/+53I am not familiar with Tennis so I had to look her up on YouTube... my god... she's a banshee.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-7WLIqa2M0 - mrgreenjeans, on 06/15/2009, -2/+46I'm not sure I'd call it "grunting". It's more an orgasmic yelp.
- HurricaneDC, on 06/16/2009, -2/+32Do you guys actually watch women's tennis to hear them grunt and yell? This isn't 1980, you can get actual porn on the internet. For free.
- riot, on 06/16/2009, -0/+23You have to remember DB is Logarithmic scale
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logarithmic_scale
Thus the different between 90 Db - 100 Db is not simply 10% more.

Jack hammer at 1 m = 100 Db - MMusick, on 06/15/2009, -1/+21Thank God. Monica Seles had almost ruined the sport.
- cleveruser, on 06/15/2009, -1/+19According to Wikipedia lions roar can be heard from 5 miles away...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion#Communication
So Sharapova can be heard from 4 miles away? - Foenetik, on 06/15/2009, -1/+19You guys remember that dude in the movie Ken Park, who was jerking it to the female tennis players' grunts while practicing auto-erotic asphyxiation on himself.....yeah me neither.
- inactive, on 06/15/2009, -1/+19Keep your creepy-ass comments to yourself?
- m3th0dm4n, on 06/16/2009, -1/+18http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBWkK3SRoi8
Wow she's excessive! - Nboy514, on 06/16/2009, -8/+23...Thereby removing the entire male demographic from its viewership
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -2/+17This is why tennis has a reputation of being a fag rich kid sport.
- Spire3660, on 06/16/2009, -0/+14Have you ever heard a live lion roar? Its the only time in my life my insides truly quivered. There is just no way to describe in words the incredible power a lions roar projects.
- thentro, on 06/16/2009, -0/+12This video sums up why it gets anoying... Sharapova vs De Brito
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVfCcBzMeA0 - mattbirk, on 06/15/2009, -3/+15Grunt.
- itsaplayonwords, on 06/16/2009, -0/+12Oh my god.. that's not even somewhat natural. I'd slap her if I had to play her.
- DeanoXD, on 06/16/2009, -0/+10sorry but these are screams not grunts. so it should be cracking down on screams during matches.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVfCcBzMeA0 - mostie, on 06/15/2009, -10/+19I, for one, will miss the grunting
- moo113, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9I enjoy watching Tennis when the large tournaments are on, but every time the women play I just have to mute the TV. If once grunts, the other will immediately and it goes back and forth until someone gets the point. Just so it can start again.
- fitzoh, on 06/16/2009, -1/+9Yes, the International Tennis Federation has decided to repeal the 1st amendment.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7Was the incorrectly used apostrophe supposed to be ironic?
- nbaughman, on 06/16/2009, -1/+8its the best reason to watch women's tennis.
- dn90, on 06/16/2009, -0/+7URRRRRGHRGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- charlie55, on 06/16/2009, -0/+6i would refuse to play you recreationally if you didnt cut that ***** out. tournaments ought to stop them immediately. if roger federer can play without grunting, then so can these sluts. the rules say you are not allowed to distract anyone intenionally you are suppoed to win by play the ball, not playing their mind with absurd annoyances and screaming.
- sulthernao, on 06/16/2009, -1/+7First ammendment only applies to the US government.
- ceredron, on 06/16/2009, -1/+7to be fair, none of it contains Maria Sharapova in it, though.
- upnortherik, on 06/16/2009, -2/+8My guess is that the frequency of the lion roar may be lower so it travels further. I may be wrong.
- Fleagleman, on 06/16/2009, -0/+5The innuendos just write themselves, don't they?
- Wxndel, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6'It is something that they do naturally. It isn’t something that is done deliberately to hurt their opponents.'
Please. It is pure gamesmanship. - addisonj, on 06/16/2009, -0/+5You know... they could really target a huge new demographic with this... I can see it now,
Tennis: Hot Woman, Grunting - Orangutan, on 06/16/2009, -1/+6creepy ass-comments?
- Brasky, on 06/16/2009, -0/+5Yeah, I *****' grunt on when I get my swell on at the gym. That's cuz everyone should see how jacked and tan I am.
- sprx, on 06/16/2009, -0/+5I suppose you want to get rid of the refs in the NFL and the NBA too? And how about those annoying umps who keep yelling "Strike!" and "Safe!" ?
- akatsuki, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4What are they going to do? Stick a decibel meter right by the serve speed one? Anything else would be unfair really, since the judges would just be arbitrary.
I am all for getting rid of the grunting, and Debrito should have been thrown out on her ass a long time ago. - hasahugedig, on 06/15/2009, -0/+4that pic of Sharapova is funny
- iletumi, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4Elephants make sounds so low we can not hear them at around 20hz. The sound also travels anywhere from 2-10km with the vibrations being strong enough to be picked up by the pads on their feet.
- mcwattersm, on 06/16/2009, -3/+7What will I masturbate to?
- paulvq, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4I read his comment and then I looked at his profile picture.
*shudders* - w0rldspawn, on 06/16/2009, -0/+4Incorrect. Have a look at this: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/eng99/eng993 ... for example.
"... an increase of the decibel rating from 100 to 110 would be perceived as roughly a 10% increase and NOT a factor of 10..." - ultrafez, on 06/23/2009, -0/+3Screeching is not sexy at all.
- enginerd17, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3This is coming from a college tennis player so i do know a little but of what it is like to play against the noise makers. When you first play the opponent it is very annoying but after a game or two it doesn't matter (you get used to it), as long as they keep it up, if they stop and start at random, then it's very annoying. Most distractions in tennis are from random unexpected changes and because they aren't yelping during your swing it's usually fine. Some players might make a stink because if they are losing they will blame it on anything but themselves, like a racket or a yelling opponent.
- sizzzzlerz, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Same here. In fact, I've pretty much quit watching the women because its so damn annoying. It too bad because there are some really talented players who sound like a dog's chew toy when you squeeze it.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3common != come on.
- inactive, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4I think their eyes can tell them when the ball is hit.
- iletumi, on 06/16/2009, -0/+3Orgasmic Grunting
- newl, on 06/16/2009, -1/+4Tim, The Toolman, Taylor, is that you?
- hugstain, on 06/16/2009, -1/+3When someone does it like this, I think it would be distracting.
Watch till the end
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PqLKH8bNUc - trogscave, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2I didn't realize Xena took up tennis.
- w1cked1, on 06/16/2009, -0/+2Years ago I thought their overly agressive "power" grunts were distracting and out of place, so I could never watch it as it seemed too ridiculous, but this yelling/cooing is plainly retarded.
Feels like the special olympics. Someone should tell them to stfu within reason. -
