- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -0/+15Safin was always so talented and also so lazy.
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -0/+9It's something about this guy. Sometimes he has amazing victories against the big boys and sometimes he screws up so bad.
- atechnoviking, on 06/26/2008, -0/+7The worst thing about Safin is his ridiculous potential. When you look at this guy play and see how clean all of his strokes are, you just wonder how on Earth he isn't in the top ten at least. Then you watch a couple more games and see him lose 3 points in a row....then you see rackets breaking and shouts from him. I always wonder what would have happened if he had worked harder and tried to control his mental game a little better. I like watching Safin play, but when he starts messing up you wonder if you should just turn the T.V off or switch to another channel because you know most of the time he is never going to recover.
P.S - Still one of my favorite players though - BackhandBandit, on 06/26/2008, -3/+10All this article did is re-confirm my thoughts that Djokovic is a complete anus.
- ConquistadorFor, on 06/26/2008, -0/+6Marat Safin is a great tennis player
- xFlipstarx, on 06/26/2008, -2/+8Thanks Safin for beating Djokovic. Don't talk crap about Federer. :)
- inactive, on 06/26/2008, -2/+8Bring back John McEnroe!
- totallyspotless, on 06/26/2008, -0/+6In a second big shock in as many days, Maria Sharapova just crashed out of Wimbledon 2-6 4-6 against the world number 154, A. Kudryavtseva.
- taron, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3I guess his awesomeness is balanced by his laziness to train hard *sigh*.
- martynda, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3Safin is pure entertainment on the tennis court, you never know what's coming. The guy is so talented that he can make top 10 players look average on his good days and so crazy that he will lose to players out of the top 100 on his bad days. What does separate the top 10 or so from everyone else is mental attitude, almost all top 100 pros can hit the ball equally, it's how hard they fight and think on the court that separates them. Watching him on a good day, it's mind boggling how hard he hits the ball and the sound it makes.
- SaveJake, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Yes and James Blake is out and Andy Roddick is on his way out....
A day of upsets at Wimbledon. - JerichoSam, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Safin has quite a history, doesn't he?
- dysonlu, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Wow. A digg for a, let's face it, not-so-stunning upset. The fact that this upset warrants a digg says a lot about Safin, the chronic underachiever.
- woody168, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2hey! you try to concentrate on playing tennis, when you have 4 hot chicks sitting in your player's box. the man is a pimp, it's hard to be a pimp and a professional tennis player at the same time.
- SaveJake, on 06/26/2008, -1/+2It would be nice to see him stick around this week...But I want to see Nadal take it all !!!
I still miss Andre....! :( - davidtamayo, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1Pimp and a tennis player at the same time. Hmmm..interesting images.
- Kristijan12, on 06/26/2008, -1/+2Djokovic is crap you think?
Well he is future number one so... you can think whatever you want about him.
Truth is the guy has spirit, charisma, great potential, great personality overal. - AmyVernon, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1ain't that always the way, though?
- larissa13, on 06/26/2008, -1/+2Safin can be so entertaining when hes focused. He can also be a total headcase on the court which distracts him from playing his game. I love his win over Djokovic. You just cant talk trash about the Federer-Express!
- Babycarrot, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Marat Safin is so dreamy
- warhol15, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1exactly.
- warhol15, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1I have to defend Marat against the underachiever label. I would give a metaphorical arm or leg to be a two-time slam champion with the (in)famous entourage of beautiful women that he enjoys. Maybe he is an "underachiever", but he's still making (in a bad year) at least six figures from hitting tennis balls. I've seen recent pictures of Pete Sampras where he looks older than John McEnroe. I give Marat credit for enjoying life outside the court -- and giving us fans a real thrill every 4 years or so.
- batfan, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1I remember seeing Safin win his first grand slam by destroying Pete Sampras at the US Open in 2000. As Pete said, I believed also that this was the changing of the guard. But then he dropped off and returned to get his 2nd grand slam with an
epic battle against Federer in 2005.If he could've tamed his famous racket
smashing temper and focused his energy positively, he should have more
than 2 majors on his resume. I wish him the best with rest of his career. - jakerudy7, on 06/26/2008, -2/+2Too bad for Djokovic. I love that guy.
- Kristijan12, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1Why do you think that Djokovic is anus?
- Kristijan12, on 06/26/2008, -1/+1Djokovic just made to much unforced errors... not that Safin wasn`t playing great, just that it was not Novaks day.
I hope he wins US open, it`s his surface after all. - inactive, on 06/26/2008, -2/+1I think tennis was more interesting in the McEnroe era because of the equipment. Professional tennis should adopt equipment rules like professional baseball: only wooden rackets should be allowed, just like only wooden bats are allowed. If aluminum bats were allowed every hit would be a home run and baseball would be boring to watch (just like tennis has become). With composite rackets everyone is serving 120mph+ and power dominates the game. Bringing back wooden rackets would make precision, skill, and strategy more important than raw power and would tennis be more interesting to watch.
