- john2kx, on 07/09/2008, -0/+27I think the guy deserves a break.
- IndiShukla, on 07/09/2008, -0/+12Im not surprised I mean the guy has tendinitis in both knees and played an almost 5 hour match with Federer he deserves a little down time.
- pitchblack16, on 07/09/2008, -0/+11after that wimbledon final im surprised both him and federer are still walking, one of the greatest tennis matches i've seen
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9Give the guy a break. He worked hard to beat Federer, both in preparation and playing the match itself.
- Discobiscuits, on 07/09/2008, -0/+7I think beating Federer earned him a break. A damn good break at that.
- hdeck, on 07/09/2008, -1/+8so this may be digg worthy, but why is it reaching the front page half a week after it was news-worthy?
- marcusgfunk, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6Looks like he is resting up for the US Open...smart move!!!
- tonich03, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4Garros - Queens - Wimbledon with al the clay court wins before that, not just tournaments, he went all trought them! 7 matches for each grand slam etc..that's like a bazillion matches all together, time to rest...he deserved it! Can't wait for the aus open. Cheers tenis fans!
(Vamos Rafa!) - Atheuz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4Good, honestly compared to Federer his playing style, while dominating and extremely powerful against nearly all opponents, is highly ineffective and if he doesn't take breaks he's going to have a very short career due to the constant strain on his body.
He deserves the break. - Herv3, on 07/08/2008, -2/+5This isn't sad! He gave everything he had to win the most important tennis tournament in his life. He'll heal up and be good for another run at the Australian.
- i4ybrid, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3A week? Usually digg articles take about a day to reach the front page. Being that Nadal won Sunday night (GMT -5), and he withdrew Monday, I don't think this is a very big lag.
- TheGreatBelow, on 07/09/2008, -0/+3Sucks, but why risk a more serious injury, especially after winning Wimbledon.
- Rev0lver, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2If everyone who cared knew at the time, why did this make the front page?
- aschepis, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3He finally beat Federer at Wimbledon but it looks like Federer will be the last man standing despite the age discrepancy
- john2kx, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3thanks for letting us all know.
- mikesart, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Yea. And what really impressed me was that the dude went there personally to tell them. Then said "This was the least I can do. I'm disappointed that I can't play."
I read that on the same day all the news sites yapped about A-Rod's marriage and Madonna nonstop. Nadal could really learn a thing or two about the doing a lot less from a good majority of the athletes I read about all the time. - Niz1, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3Yeh i reckon he wants to play but his doctor type person said not to. Better he kept in health and play another day, than to play and never play another day.
- mickstephenson, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I think he probably went on a massive bender and had the hangover of a century, he deserves it. After Wimbledon why should he even care about a relatively insignificant tournament?
- Buu3, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2Shuttup you fat idle git. Perhaps people who use this site have other interests than the internet.
- S7aind, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The sports section of Digg at its finest. Honestly, this is pretty fast for a sports story.
- CatfishAttack, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1http://healthyandenergy.com/frs-energy/
- KlassyGuy, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The last tournament's final without a doubt must have left him winded and tired. I don't blame him for needing a breather.
- cvindustries, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Broken algorithm?
- swraman, on 07/22/2008, -0/+1I still want to see Nada finally sweep his clay court season, he is always so close to accomplishing the great feat. Theres always just one place he messes up, This year it was just his blisters at Rome. Last year Federer outplayed him at Hamburg. The two tears before that...Well Nadal swept but he didnt play in Hamburg, and thats a Maters series event he can't skip that and be considered to have swept the clay court season.
I want to see him win all the tournys he plays in next year, Monte Carlo, Rome, Barcelona, Hamburg, Roland Garros, and the Mercedes cup. That would be quite a feat. And he is Capable of it. - poploserdigg, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0i think he's just withdrawing to heal up in the short term before the hardcourt season. I haven't seen anything suggesting he's going to be out for the US Open.
- Atheuz, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2I can predict the rest of the years results already and some of the next.
Because while Rafael is an amazing player on both clay and grass, he sucks in Australian Open where either Djokovic or Federer will win, probably Djokovic. And he sucks in US Open where Federer is the prohibitive favorite. Rafael will of course win next years French Open barring that his knee doesn't get worse, he'll probably go to the finals of Wimbledon and depending on how Federer has been playing he'll either win or lose that.
He'll most likely win a lot of 'smaller than Grand Slam' tournaments on Grass and Clay and further his game to be able to play better on hard surfaces. - greengarfield, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1How is this front page worthy???
Tennis players withdraw from tournaments all the time. Nadal has been known for years now to have a relatively poor second half of the season.
I am happy that Tennis is getting a lot of attention besides with Mariah Sharapova, but could we keep it to relevant info? - borninda818, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1I though spazz was being sarcastic, but I could be wrong.
- streak, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1So goes the life of a grinder.
- Medicamusic, on 10/28/2008, -2/+1Dr. Seuss?
- teh_spazz, on 07/08/2008, -5/+4The man who dominates clay-court has to withdraw. Sad. :(
- TheGreatBelow, on 07/09/2008, -2/+1Veterinarian?
- Pixelpaws, on 07/09/2008, -4/+2Sounds like Tiger Woods' last win.
- BrownManUPS, on 07/08/2008, -8/+4The adrenaline during the match cought up with him finally.
- bigmrpig, on 07/09/2008, -7/+3Eee, buried for making front page way after anyone who cared at all found out
- Just, on 07/09/2008, -9/+2Maybe he is just taking some time to splash out some cash after winning Wimbledon no?
