- sockpuppets, on 05/18/2009, -1/+31Rafael Nadal Scissors!
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+15Novak Djokovic papers?
- dayal911, on 05/18/2009, -1/+15Good, I'm glad. Roger needed this.
- tommyboy84, on 05/18/2009, -2/+14Well done Roger.
It's been a tough year but a lot of people over here in the UK are hoping you get your Wimbledon crown back this year. - SirBruce, on 05/18/2009, -0/+12Best rivalry in Men's Tennis since Agassi-Sampras.
- inactive, on 05/18/2009, -1/+12Finally! but Nadal will be back with his winning streak sooner or later..
- WaveyRavey, on 05/18/2009, -2/+11Really? Im hoping most of us will be supporting Andy Murray.
- alappat1, on 05/18/2009, -0/+9I wonder.. Sampras and Agassi 2.0?
- Elysium26, on 05/18/2009, -0/+9Andy Roddick folds. (oh, different game.)
- cptcliche, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8Did you ever english?
- illt, on 05/18/2009, -1/+9pretty sure sampras and agassi, gods as they were, were more like nadal and federer v0.8b
- jupaneanu, on 05/18/2009, -0/+8Roger needed this so bad! I don't think he has a chance at the French Open...Wimbledon, maybe
- iBleeedOrange, on 05/18/2009, -1/+7Good, I was afraid Fed was done, glad to see that this is still a rivalry.
- SirBruce, on 05/18/2009, -1/+7Well Nadal just got his ass beat, so I'd say it's on.
- Egroh08, on 05/18/2009, -1/+6Good. Now hopefully Fed will win the French Open.
- Lordaj92, on 05/18/2009, -0/+5Actually, Federer played relatively well but :
-Nadal played 4 hours Saturday against Djokovic.
-The clay on Madrid is much faster than on the French Open.
-The altitude also helped Federer; for example passing shots are far mor difficult to realize in these conditions.
So although i'm a Federer fan, i won't put my hopes too high for the French Open. - jasonjcrawford, on 05/18/2009, -0/+5This is big because it shows Federer has a chance of winning at Roland Garros for once. But that is not to count out the obvious favorite Nadal and his impressive 150 out of 154 wins on clay.
- chaos7, on 05/18/2009, -0/+5can't wait for wimbledon and the us open!!
- RAT-Man, on 05/18/2009, -1/+5Finally he has returned.
- Nuak, on 05/18/2009, -0/+4As Nadal said, the court was not favorable to him because of Madrid's altitude. Here in Madrid we are 650 meters above the sea level, as opposed to Paris, that is only 30 meters above the sea level. That means less pression for the ball (about 600 meters less of air above the ball), which in those conditions moves and bounces faster, making the clay court to act more like hard surfaces, more suitable for offensive players like Federer. Nadal is from Mallorca, an island of Spain, 0 meters over the sea level, and as you could imagine, is what he is accostumed to.
- nikhil1986, on 05/18/2009, -1/+4Well it was also because Nadal defeated Djokovic in an exhausting 3 set thriller one day before. He must have been exhausted before the final.
- WaveyRavey, on 05/18/2009, -1/+4Andy Murray scissors...
- tommyboy84, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3Yeah, many will be. But I'm not as patriotic when it comes to sports where individuals are involved rather than teams.
I've always admired Roger Federer and would love to see him come out on top again. - slaystench, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3Easily the best rivalry in all of sports imo. I saw on ESPN people voted for Kobe and Lebron as the best rivalry... They have never even played each other in a final. That makes sense. haha
- c010rb1indusa, on 05/18/2009, -0/+3Wimbledon finals was ridiculous, I don't even like tennis that much but that ***** was fun to watch.
- imacumpewter, on 05/18/2009, -1/+4yes, let's not give Roger any credit... good thinking
- Nab314, on 05/18/2009, -2/+4I'm so ecstatic!! I hope Federer finally beats Nadal in Paris.
- atomheartmother, on 05/18/2009, -1/+3Wow...Fed takes him out on red clay, no less. A legitimate shot at the French, perhaps?
- freefalll, on 05/20/2009, -0/+2He broke through that mental barrier though. Finally he took the break points (2/2) and defended Successfully against Nadal's (defending two break points when he was serving for the match). Let's hope he has his groove back on, interesting times :)
Plus Djoko will be in Nadal's half, since he dropped to 4th on the rankings - omarlassan, on 05/18/2009, -2/+3since last year after the historic wembledon....there has been no rivalry
its just nadal - sporkman, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1He's better at tennis than Jeff Gordon is at Nascar.
- denimhead, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1i guess federer is finally out of his slump
- charlesray, on 05/18/2009, -1/+2Even after beating Nadal on clay just days ago, you don't think he has a chance at Roland Garros?
- Doubledown, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1Jimmy Conners / John McEnroe 3.0?
- tommyboy84, on 05/18/2009, -1/+2Agree totally.
That's not to say Rafa isn't an unbelievable athlete. Just immense. - flamesrule, on 05/19/2009, -0/+1I don't think that's really an excuse, look what happened in Australia. Nadal played an epic 5 setter in the semifinals and still came back to win against Federer in the finals in another epic 5 setter.
- futebollounge, on 05/18/2009, -1/+2lets hope federer starts winning because nadal is substance without style. federer is pure talent! always more enjoyable to watch.
- entropymaker, on 05/18/2009, -0/+1a combination of the fastest top spin in the game clocked at 3200 revs per sec, an indefatiguable stamina, and an "I never quit no matter what" attitude. The kid is arguably one of the best to play the game.. pretty much undeniably the greatest clay court player ever.
- rangah, on 05/18/2009, -1/+1No, I didn't know that.
I was pretty excited to hear that anyone beat nadal on clay, too. - bhdakanat, on 05/18/2009, -1/+1Nadal insisted: "Playing four hours was not a problem for today. Roger was much better than me and deserved to win."
- fabriciom, on 05/19/2009, -0/+0Thats not what he said on national spanish tv. I would guess it was "lost" in translation.
- TheRedLemon, on 05/18/2009, -1/+0wut
- RumpleForeskin3, on 05/18/2009, -6/+1Jeff Gordon plays tennis?
- CoD4, on 05/18/2009, -8/+2how that noob ever beat federer is questionable
- RiotHeart, on 05/18/2009, -7/+1Roger did ever to win clay nadal too?
- fabriciom, on 05/18/2009, -9/+2You do know Nadal let him win. He had a tournament a day before which he won and lasted over 4 hours.
