- frogpelt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17A match like this that shows that tennis should be considered among the most physically trying among sports. What major sport requires nearly constant energy for almost 4 hours? Soccer, 90 minutes, Football, 60 minutes (not constant), Basketball, 48 minutes.
I'm a big fan of Basketball and Football but Tennis deserves a lot of credit as well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I watched this point for point and it was probally one of the best things I have ever seen. What an amazing game not just for Andre but Baghdatis as well, even with the cramps he held in there. Truly one of the best games I have ever seen.
- NikZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16"As a tennis player, I want to thank you for one of the best matches I've ever seen" -- John McEnroe to Baghdatis
Indeed, that was a killer, killer game. And I'm not even a tennis fan! - nd_miller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13This isn't a dupe, this story is about the epic match Agassi played last night.
Your Dupe Police membership is hereby revoked. - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I felt really bad for Baghdatis during the last 15 minutes. He was in a lot of pain.
- andrew52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Everyone was rooting for Agassi, but I'm sure Baghdatis gained a lot of fans during this match.
- Cozmcphish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah I watched the match and it was one of the best sports moments to happen in a long time. While the fans were giving Baghdatis a hard time for most of the match, he showed true class to say the kind words he did after being defeated.
I thought it was just as classy for Agassi to say that he felt good knowing that he is leaving the sport in such great hands as Baghdatis.
Truly a great match from two great people - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5he didnt throw it on purpose. He had to serve fast as hell because he couldn't run too much. The guy was giving it his all.
- kuroda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6That was a terrific match. 3 hours, 40 minutes and the 36 year old Agassi defeated the 21 year old Marcos Baghdatis. Go Agassi!
It looked like Agassi was going to easily win in the 4th set being up 4-0 but Baghdatis ended up wining the set. Then in the 5th, it looked like Baghdatis was going to win after breaking Agassi's serve. However, Agassi was able to break back and then break again at 6-5 for the win. Incredible. - top5design, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He got a cortisone shot in his back a few days ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3damniagassimissagainmad - it's a palindrome!
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've got tickets for Monday night. If Agassi can hang on to beat B. Beckerr, I'll see him against Roddick in all likelihood. Can't wait.
- jamauss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was one of the most awesome matches of Andre's career. I sat in the pro shop after playing some tennis myself and watched the 4th set. I know what the odds of it happening are, but I'd still love to see Andre make the 2nd week of the US Open this year.
- felyduw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I love Agassi but Agassi would lose 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 today.
- jaggededge99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't believe I missed this match.
- fascfoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@borinda
If you are playing in the 3rd round of the US Open, you are definitely not "easy" no matter what. - borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2odds are pretty good. The next person he's playing is easy.
- PBrane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was in Arthur Ashe stadium last night for my US Open. Great seats and the atmosphere really was electric! Almost wanted to deck the crowd though for yelling out line calls during the game or yelling when someone was about to serve. One for the ages though!!
- jmansor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agassi - Federer Re-Match!!!
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh well, all this talk is now moot. Next story!
- thegreyfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The match was awesome and so was the crowd. I loved that the crowd stop the match just to do the wave.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I swear I thought Baghdatis was playing possum with the leg cramps.
- LaserRob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah - one of the best matches I've ever seen - going way back to the Connors-McEnroe and Borg-McEnroe days. What are the odds he'd be playing someone named B. Becker in possibly his last pro match after all those years of playing Boris Becker? He was clearly exhausted though. I hope he can recover in time.
- MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lucky. I went yesterday, but for the day session, so I didn't get to see him play. Saw a few good matches, however.
- Rainbow101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3was he supposed to be dead after the match?
- pimpsallad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Man I missed the last part of the match. Going to have to watch a rerun!
- flyerzeng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hope he can wonderfully ring down the curtain.
- brainstogether, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Baghdatis needed some support from new york crowd to pull it off, but it never came...
It's always difficult to defeat a person of Andre's calibre and with a 23000 supporters cheering each of his shot. - .mark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cramps suck. Period.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1His father attached a racket to his hand when he was a baby because he was too young to handle the weight of the racket.
Attached with tape.
Firmly.
... - EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hes a machine!
- SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would bow out now if I was Agassi. I heard his back hurt so bad that he couldn't standup the other day it would be great if he ended on this win.
- bsolidgold, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I wasn't aware that tennis was life-threatening
- antron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Wow, I wonder what sort of Performance Enhancing Drug cocktail he's using. Some HGH and a little testosterone for stamina and recovery with a touch of steroids for strength maybe?
C'mon, he's 36 and competing with players in their 20s. - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Sorry, Mr. Internal Affairs.
- The_Wallbanger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Yeah, at the time I thought he was gracefully trying to give Agassi the win. A nod to the legend. But he seemed to get his legs back at the end. (Hmmm... what about all those double faults in the final game?)
Would Bagdatis have thrown the match on purpose? - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -18/+1dupe
