- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -4/+94The first duty of every starfleet officer is to the truth!
- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -5/+72Jesus Christ, did they never watch TOS? There were these flickery fan things behind the lit up doo-dads on the front of the whatsits.
- xerofilter, on 01/29/2008, -3/+48In one of my favorite DS9 episodes "Trials and Tribble-ations" the Enterprise had spinning nacelles.
youtube for the proof.

so yeah! - bmcnally, on 01/29/2008, -3/+46The question is . . . when was the entry for dilithium crystals last edited?
- teddyrux, on 01/29/2008, -4/+44Every time I see a 'Wil' article, I think it's a 'Wii' article.
- diggapleeeze, on 01/29/2008, -1/+34blow up the damn ship Jean-Luc!
- knight2001, on 01/29/2008, -1/+33They are not turbines... They are spinning nacellecaps... The movie will start with the Enterprise bouncing up and down as it leaves space dock while the crew is listening to 50 Cent over the intercoms which have been replaced with millions of wall sized speakers covered in LEDs and plugged directly into the warp core for maximum wattage.
Suddenly things get tense when Kirk on his first mission hails the Klingon warbird which has just entered federation space and yells "Yo Biaotch! Ya better get to steppin before I bust a phase in your ass."
Yes it is late and I am tired... - Devotia, on 01/29/2008, -1/+32That speech always bugged me. Sure, a duty to telling the truth to fellow officers is all well and good, but it's a hell of a double standard when compared to the Prime Directive, which necessitates systematic and deliberate lying simply on the fact that another culture isn't advanced enough for the Federation.
/geek - cinder, on 01/29/2008, -1/+31No! NNooonoooooooooooOOoO! *breaks little ship*
- Chompy, on 01/29/2008, -3/+31I don't understand the people whining about the "turbines". They were on the frigging ship in the original series, didn't you ever watch the show?
- Speed, on 01/29/2008, -5/+32Ok, did the author of this story really think he could school Wil ***** Wheaton, a man who was ON Star Trek, in Star Trek facts? Even accepting that a person can do a role that they know nothing about, he's a nerd and knew the writers of the show, in which the tech behind the Trek had to be mentioned a couple of times.
- dcmjzero, on 01/29/2008, -2/+28did you even see episodes 1 and 2?
- dcmjzero, on 01/29/2008, -6/+32this is the internet. specifically, digg- a technology oriented site. if you don't want to hear about star trek, you might want to reconsider visiting both.
- Zihuatanejo, on 01/29/2008, -6/+30"Shut up Wesley!"
- Picard - neocognitism, on 01/29/2008, -4/+28Still waiting for the digg headline:
"Wil Wheaton beams into solid rock" - yaddayaddayoda, on 01/29/2008, -2/+26Crushed by The Crusher.
- inactive, on 01/29/2008, -7/+29Wow...talk about a exciting conversation. I bet that thread was just FILLED with women!
- MrMacMan, on 01/29/2008, -3/+25and yet somehow, your being dugg down... i wonder why that is, perhaps you have underestimated the geek following here on digg.
- xerofilter, on 01/29/2008, -1/+23i couldn't have said it better myself.
- Peavey, on 01/29/2008, -1/+22That was truly poetic. I almost cried.
- Jray087, on 01/29/2008, -4/+25REAL science FICTION, eh?
- GhostSniper, on 01/29/2008, -0/+20...
You broke your little ship D: - micropublisher, on 01/29/2008, -2/+20Granted, but the prime directive is designed to preserve that culture's truth. I think of it more as avoidance than lying. Imagine introducing a Federation-like society and technology to humans a couple hundred years ago. Humanity would have totally lost its identity and and core values, all of which make up the truth of the human race.
/anthropological geek - Kronos6948, on 01/29/2008, -2/+19What people are failing to realize is that the red covers haven't been put over them yet. Those mechanisms just explain the moving lights in the bussard scoops.
- ZeroSki11, on 01/29/2008, -1/+18I thought those turbine things on the ends of the nacelles were the intakes for the Bussard collectors. I think they are supposed to scoop up interstellar hydrogen for use in the ship. i.e. mix with antimatter to power the ship. In which case the spinning turbine thing could be a compressor.
- billin, on 01/29/2008, -0/+16You sound like Sam Rockwell in Galaxy Quest....
"Did you guys ever WATCH the show??" - RealmDown, on 01/29/2008, -2/+17Political campaigns. Take Ron Paul for example. He is mattering less and less so fast, that he'll be antimatter within weeks.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/29/2008, -1/+14"The spots go all the way down."
- MikeyD, on 01/29/2008, -4/+16Oh burn!
- jon02129, on 01/29/2008, -3/+14So far? 252 people.
- OrangeTide, on 01/29/2008, -1/+11X-Files nerds are way worse than Trekkies, at least I can tune out the trekkies. X-File nerds are passion about their moronic conspiracy theories.
- MateyO, on 01/29/2008, -1/+11Kids these days. I can't believe nobody brought this up: They're Bussard Collectors. They're designed to collect the free hydrogen collected while travelling through space to assist in propulsion and power generation.
(http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Bussard_collector) - micropublisher, on 01/29/2008, -1/+11Best TNG scene ever.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 01/29/2008, -2/+10CURSE YOU WIL WHEATON.
- MacEnvy, on 01/29/2008, -0/+8Best TNG movie, too. First Contact rocks my Cochrane.
- ploik, on 01/29/2008, -3/+11sex would have stopped this argument from happening..
- beachblonde, on 01/29/2008, -0/+8dugg for wishing an std on virgins
- adml_shake, on 01/29/2008, -0/+7I hope that was sarcasm, or am I going to have to bust out my Enterprise blueprints and tech manual?
- Kronos6948, on 01/29/2008, -3/+10I just think he went about it in the wrong way. Wil's complaining about turbines. Although I can't explain what they are, they're definitely not turbines. If Wil had paid attention to TOS, he would've noticed that SOMETHING was spinning behind the bussard scoops.
- Thepack1138, on 01/29/2008, -2/+9Lessons learned..... Listen to Wesley.
- RealmDown, on 01/29/2008, -0/+7Yeah, but at least it's a well adjusted one.
- RealmDown, on 01/29/2008, -0/+7And boy oh boy did Dax have legs!
A view to a Trill. - ByteGuerilla, on 01/29/2008, -0/+6Scientific truth, or historical truth, or personal truth!
- gwolf, on 01/29/2008, -0/+6You are correct sir.
- darkane, on 01/29/2008, -0/+6Says the guy whose recent diggs include the ever important "Everyday Normal Guy Rap Song 2" and the incredibly life changing "Final Fantasy I 1 PSP Walkthrough".
- sportbikepilot, on 01/29/2008, -0/+5star trek > star wars... ewoks and jar jar binks. I rest my case.
- Jennefah, on 01/29/2008, -0/+5Dugg for knowing the difference between the two. :)
- tehmark, on 01/29/2008, -3/+8hehe, Will Wheaton is a badass
- darkane, on 01/29/2008, -0/+5I nominate this for comment of the day.
- dcmjzero, on 01/29/2008, -4/+9i thought it was no interference with the internal affairs of other civilizations (aka the Prime Directive)...
