What if Futurama had been drawn like Anime?!

- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -70/+7first off...the dog on Fry's should is his old dog in the year 2000.He was frozen or something and they tried to clone him in one of the episodes. And the shoe for a head...if your talking about bender's son/brother?? i'm not sure which one.....but its somehow related; he's friends with the professor...except when he was a kid.
coonnffffusssinnggg much? - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41shoe for a head?
if you're talking about the robot in the front, that's tinny timmy, the robot orphan. he's been in several episodes. - affanjam, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21Woop!Woop!Woop!Woop!Woop!Woop!

- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38The dog is Seymour, Fry's pet before he was frozen.
Learn about the episode where Fry finds him petrified at a museum
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Bark- vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -1/+111lord, the ending of that episode is /sad/
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+98You're probably going to laugh at me but I almost (well, I actually did) cried on the episode where Seymour (the dog) waits for Fry. Seasons pass, even years, and Seymour sits and waits for Fry. Really sad.
- Kale, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47I cried too :(
- PrettyMuchBryce, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27I cried on the episode where fry wrote I love you in the stars for leela and it got blown up before she could see it. :'( Poor fry. He has the worst luck.

:( - hypnotoad32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Yeah.. I won't let my wife watch "Jurassic Bark". She'd be sad for a week.
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20thats what gets me about Futurama, it's one of those shows where you yell at the screen hoping the characters (cartoon or not) take on some common sense because you want it to be a happy ending. But yeah, the end of Jurassic Bark was really depressing, including the music as the seasons passed and the elderly Seamor lays down, closes his eyes and passes away into the black fade out of the credits. :(
- CyberGhost, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3If you want a real tear jerker, watch a movie called "Fluke"
I guarantee, you'll cry! - anewname, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20I thought it was an homage to the story of Hachiko...

also my one regret is that i have boneitis - Character0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14damn boneitis... at least we did it 80's style.
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -43/+1wow, you're all tremendous pussies.
- Genthree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Or Argos for those of us not obsessed with Japanese culture
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argos_%28dog%29 - bluucircles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I also cried at the end of that episode. Glad to know I wasn't the only person.
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2God that is a depressing episode. I cried when it first aired, I cried when I watched it again on DVD, and I'm tearing up just thinking about the ending....
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ decadence
DAMMIT! I'm trying to watch it but I can't even do that! I'm already crying... - pepelemoko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4futurama is unlike any other cartoon, in the sense that you really care for the characters and what happens to them. They're not just stupid people doing stupid things to make us laugh. Some of the best episodes to back this up are, Jurrasic Bark, The Sting, The one abou frys brother and the clover leaf, and he one where time keeps slipping and fry searches to find a way to ell leala he loves her
- geniusNOTatWORK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ pepelemoko
"Time Keeps on Slippin" - Fry moves the stars for Leela
And I totally agree with you, this has got to be one of the best cartoons ever since you develop an emotional connection to the characters time and time again. Another great example of this is in "The Why of Fry" when he argues with Nibbler about being purposefully frozen to live in the future - marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1That's nothing compared to the ep when Homer met his mother again.
- royall64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yea I cried as well. So emotional...
- diggadong, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1Anyone who cries at a cartoon needs a ***** slap.
- Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awww man, hate to admit it but I cried after that episode too. Felt sad for over a day actually. But it's episodes like that and the Fry's Nephew one that made me fall in love in Futurama.
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My dog died right after Christmas, reminded me of this episode. It really sucks to loose a friend.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That ending was really sad. I notice Futurama prefers these sad endings all the time.
- freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Bender looks kinda badass.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yeah and Lela looks even sexier. :)
- Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Lela kinda looks like a dude...
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35"Bender looks kinda badass."
Bender always looks like a badass. - Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Bite my glorious golden ass!
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Hoov
I also watched that episode last night... Good to see that some people still watch TV.
- Import98, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I can't believe this has over 100+ diggs when there are tons of links to this picture in the Simpsons comments as well as a clickable link on the Simpsons deviant page.
- derphilipp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I think that is the cool thing about digg: Whats cool becomes digged and on the front page. I am a fan of the Simpsons _and_ Futurama, but not everybody is. So those who love Futurama see the story as well as those who love the Simpsons!
- mikesbaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the simpsons one made it to the front page thanks for you asinine input though
- ScottY07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great work, liked the Simpsons one too.
- 2tomato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Double dugg!
- YouCanDiggIt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't exactly picture a Japanese Futurama.
- Jackanapes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How would they pronounce it?
/oh, right
- Jackanapes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How would they pronounce it?
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -21/+2i got a better title:
What if everyone clicked on the Anime Simpsons artist link for Futurama yesterday?
instead fo creating an entirely new digg story. nah, that title is too long, anyways i've marked this as lame.- DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Because there was a link yesterday about a different show, there shouldn't be one today about this show? Huh. A kajillion dupes on digg and you complain about this? That's odd.
- shotmenot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you can also link loads of movies through youtube on one page but that doesnt mean they dont need a separate digg post
- greatghandi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1It's as if millions of desktops suddenly cried out in joy!.
- Fly1m1, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3Great! More cartoon crap on digg.
- MacHarborGuy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5now we have the cartoon bashers coming out eh? meh, there is always someone
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I just got dejavu. Wasn't this already here?
- AzraelRenegades, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15+1 Digg for including the finglonger!
- geoffreyireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3All the grown men taking about crying.
I cried a bit too :( - baronvonrolo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I do realy like these, and I like the concept of them, but with the simpsons one, it was obvious that Homer is really fat, and zoidberg actually looks quite ghoulish in this one, sorta detracts from their charms.
Still good work, and props on finding the futurama thing and getting it to the front page so quickly! - lesty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All Glory To The Hypnotoad!
- twoschizos, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1If Futurama would have been anime it would have been just another anime show.
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2to answer the original question: it would have sucked, just like the rest of anime
- martin993, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Awesome work. If it was an anime show I might be able to understand when Amy calls herself cute all the time. There's no way a Matt Groening character can be even remotely sexy as they are.
Somebody should do this as a spin-off manga book. Seriously, Groening green lights much worse merchandise than this. I don't even think he looks at some of it. Probably threw his "REJECTED" stamp away ages ago when he realised it wouldn't make him any money.
(Off topic: Digg's American spell-check is annoying as Hell.)- Sixcolors, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amy is Chinese... and from Mars.
- scotticus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Southpark did it.
- Ryuukuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I almost buried your comment but then I got the joke. It took me a bit.
- CompIsMyRx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Good Times with Weapons" was one of the best episodes ever. http://youtube.com/watch?v=vmew67uJkgY

Fry: Fry's dog!
Group of protesters: When do we want it?
Fry: Fry's dog! - StolidOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg! Watching 'That's Lobstertainment' right now! Credit to Software2 to for commenting about this first on the Simpson's story
- ZMerlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Awesome. Awesome to the max!
- probFake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Walking on Sunshine" DOES indeed suck noodles.
- red7ine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24That's awesome. I did this a while back for the Penciljack boards :
http://bryonvaught.com/futurama.jpg
tried to do them in a slightly more realistic, American comic way- DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer yours to the anime one. well done!
- m0nkei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dude, nice work i like lit a lot! You got some talent there.
- postitnote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It wasn't until your picture that I realized how hideous Zoidberg really would be in real life.
- red7ine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks a lot guys! appreciate the comments!
Nixon's head is a little small and that's always kinda bugged me
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1does anyone else think these suck? the idea is cool but anime is much more artful than these
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think the artists intent was to compete with a whole genre of art. It's just a fun picture.
- jessecurry, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If only we could find an anime version of 90210
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Pretty good execution. Anyone else getting tired of Anime, though? I've seen a couple examples of good anime, but the bulk of it seems to be a way for learning one way to draw and not learning anything else (and saving frames when making cartoons). Big eyes, tiny eye blinks, line mouths, squiggly line mouths, big teeth smile, moving slanted lines in the background... OVER AND OVER AGAIN... For perspective I'm an illustrator for a fairly large design company, so my style needs to change based on the clients needs or established characters/illustrations they may already be using. It's way more rewarding than just drawing in one style forever. I have this same beef with most graffiti... Squiggly text with arrows on the ends, often chrome letters... lame... Afro Ninja looks pretty awesome, though.
- KyjL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Afro Ninja looks pretty awesome, though."
If you've been keeping up with the times, most Anime is about as slick as Afro is. Just not the retarded ***** like Naruto, or whatever the 10-year-olds are drooling over now. - BevansDesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awww, you put down anime. You're going to get buried. And I'll join you:
I agree, it's a very good adaptation. But I'm just sick to death of people who think that the only way to be cool or successful (or whatever) is to draw in the anime style. What happened to developing your own style? - radda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@whiteyMcBrown:
You don't seem to have watched enough anime. Try looking at something that breaks away from the norm with its animation, like Noein (Netflix it) or Kemonozume (Googe for fansubs, it's unlicensed). Not every anime out there is the same cute girl/fighting crap, despite what the rest of the internet says.
@BevansDesign:
I'm no artist, and I'm a huge anime fan (bordering on wapanese/weeaboo), but I totally agree with you.
- KyjL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Afro Ninja looks pretty awesome, though."
- DeFex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If futurama was anime then It would just be more anime. so its probably a good thing it wasn't.
- anomalya, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.yourtvlinks.com/futurama.html
- Digitalfuneral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was good.
- EricPeters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dugg for including the Thinglonger (sp?)
- chuckdigi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I thought it was "fing-longer", lol.
- Ryuukuro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like this one better than the Simpsons one but both are fun and well done pieces of fan art. Both works are faithful to the character designs but they also use anime style in a way that challenges the (often true) stereotype that all anime characters look the same. And Space Coyote seems to be an artist to watch. I think that the popularity of these pieces along with her(?) original works will be a big break for her career in comics.
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dugg for all the little cult references in the pic:
1) The Thing-longer (TM)
2) The brain slug
3) Seymour, Fry's fossilized dog
4) The can of sardines from the ep where Fry becomes filthy rich
5) Bender being such a bad-ass (okay, not a cult reference, but hey... it's Bender!)
6) and, of course, the Hypnotoad- mirokumonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, if I remember correctly, it's the "Fing-longer" not the "Thing-longer"... Unless I misheard.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And that's what it would have been like if I had invented the fing-longer. *sigh*
- ChrisrWilliams, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4If Futurama were drawn like anime, I wouldn't be watching it.
- deboosher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Agreed!
Also, in the comments section of The "If The Simpsons were drawn in Anime", there was a link to this picture. It's made by the same guy. No Digg, burried as lame. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Also, in the comments section of The "If The Simpsons were drawn in Anime", there was a link to this picture. It's made by the same guy. ...why does that make it lame
- deboosher, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Agreed!
- Jack9, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3this is getting lame. What's diggworthy about different artists representations of characters? Marked lame. Jesus.
- dustpylex2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, I really want to see a full episode drawn like this.
- SebG, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5Anime is gay
- Klaatu14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll never watch that episode (Jurassic Bark) again...ending is sooo sad.
I still have never seen "Old Yeller" either..... - esquire360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love the picture, are those the sardines?
Great pic, would love her to do a series of cartoons with these characters, remakes of classic scenes. - HsoKinees, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1amy is kinda hot lol
- foofoobunykins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0omg so awesome!:)
- SquareOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This show would have been sooo much better as an anime!
- hilbertspaceboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bender: What an awful dream! 1s and 0s everywhere! And I thought I saw a 2...
Fry: It was just a dream, Bender. There's no such thing as 2. - DGibb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I took a better look at the picture... Great attention to detail, note the can of sardines (last in existence), the brain slug on Hermes, the can of Slurm... Excellent picture.
- Narwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's missing Mom! :'(
- counterstriker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0If futurama were drawn like this there might still be espisodes coming out today
- hilbertspaceboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Comedy Central will be airing new episodes beginning in 2008.
Set your Tivo, counterstriker. - AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Complete with Slurm. Nice.
- nubnub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1First time I saw that episode It was so sad, but now its no so sad.
- PayneX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What if DeviantArt hadn't become a nasty myspace clone.
