- StarWarsFever, on 11/02/2009, -1/+34Morena Baccarin is totally hot, so i'm definitely in
- heaintheavy, on 11/02/2009, -0/+30After 25 years of technological advancements in CG, the damn Guinea Pig scene better be epic!
- RealmDown, on 11/02/2009, -1/+19I'll accept your opinion that it looks awful. Your "enjoy your crap" spew just makes you a bitter, awful, spiteful person, and most likely a closet troll.
- Netmindstorm, on 11/02/2009, -0/+15I think they should give Marc Singer a cameo where he is running a pet store complete with a tiger and two ferrets.
- bjs3171, on 11/02/2009, -5/+19"...and he came up with something that is less science fiction than political science fiction."
i don't understand this statement. All real sci-fi is political/social commentary. that's the point. - repins, on 11/02/2009, -1/+14V was short for VICTORY does anyone else remember the holocaust survivor showing the teenager how to paint Graffiti?
- Samurai77, on 11/02/2009, -0/+13I was watching the V reruns all day yesterday on the sffy channel. I remember watching them as a kid, hope the new one does a good job.
- nextag82, on 11/02/2009, -0/+10Typically SCI-fi shows never really do too well. I'll take a shot at this though
- RealmDown, on 11/02/2009, -0/+10No, that may the purpose behind a lot, but not all have an ulterior motives past being fun.
- paidhima, on 11/02/2009, -0/+10@allisonaxe:
So what you're saying is that Alien and Aliens were not about scientific advances being used by the military industrial complex for the purpose of acquiring advanced weaponry by studying the xenomorph? I see quite strong commentary about human nature, politics and the rise of corporatism that takes place once man unchains himself from Earth. - RealmDown, on 11/02/2009, -0/+9So, what's your new idea?
- spritom, on 11/02/2009, -0/+9I'll be in my bunk!
- phogasmic, on 11/02/2009, -1/+10I cannot wait to see this.
- RealmDown, on 11/02/2009, -0/+8That's like saying it's not really politics unless you are lying (and I'll grant that as a valid premise :-).
Science fiction is a genre. Like any genre, you can use the story to deliver a message, but the two are not inextricably intertwined. - SmokeN-DC, on 11/02/2009, -0/+8I believe it morphed in to dual meanings
- LarkStew, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7I wonder if David Icke will be watching?
- IphtashuFitz, on 11/02/2009, -0/+7DVR's are your friend. Maybe the V's will get you one...
- TechEvil, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6you're never in before vaginal jokes. never.
- NoamChimpsky, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6Isn't the "V" supposed to be for "Victory", not "Visitors"?
Either the reviewer blew it, or the mythology isn't where it should be (for the whole WWII allegory). - Crosshare, on 11/02/2009, -0/+6So you're the one....
- Atheuz, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5I didn't see the original series, but this had me interested just after a little bit of promotion.
- Kypt, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5Hoping for another Battlestar Galactica myself. Did pretty damn good for itself.
- FearlessFreep, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5It's both....watch the story and you'll get it....
- Falldog, on 11/02/2009, -0/+5It must be hard, otherwise Journeyman and Firefly would still be on.
- sHockz, on 11/02/2009, -3/+7if the reviewers thought it was a fun and smart, it must really be boring and dumb.
ill DVR it still, and give it a chance in hopes that it doesnt suck - fxu1989, on 11/02/2009, -5/+9Elizabeth Mitchell is totally hot.

- colto, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Laura Vandervoort is easily the hottest one in the cast. Check out her images:

- protodon, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4you should try spelling
- acid_jazz, on 11/02/2009, -1/+5I'll lend you my VCR.
On a side note: Yankees suck. - dwtc, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4I think that one scene shoud look just as terrible as the original, just for the nostalgia.
- anarcurt, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4Game 6 would be Wednesday anyway. Travel Day.
- NoamChimpsky, on 11/02/2009, -0/+4"Fun and smart!" why does that sound like it came straight from some blurb spewing corporate gob? Too bad, I was really hoping for an "edge of the seat thriller!", or an "exciting roller-coaster of fun!"
- allisonaxe, on 11/02/2009, -2/+5Alien wasn't sci-fi, it was a horror-monster movie set in space. the sequel was an action/thriller set in space. Real science fiction stories are about how scientific advances effect society and human behavior.
- spritom, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3You've got a deal!
- SPARTACVS, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3"V- Fun and Smart"
So apparently it's not like Flashforward. - SacraBos, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4Watched a lot of the original series on SyFy (ugh, new name) last night. I didn't remember the background music being so cheesy, and in some areas, inappropriate for the mood. And the fight scenes? Even with Badass Ironside? They kept jumping completely from behind cover, fully exposing themselves, firing a couple of shots, then ducking again!
The new one has to be better, or at least hold up better over time. And Anna > Diana. - KingWiqid, on 11/02/2009, -1/+4I dont remeber the movie 'Alien' having any kind of political agenda...sometimes sci fi is simply that...this movie however is obviously rife with political angst. Take a closer look at the Visitors LOGO on their chest/hats/ships - it looks just like a swastika, except two bars are replaced by circles - otherwise, especially from a distance, it looks the same . I had not connected the Nazi-Germany ( other than noticing that the logo looks like a swastika) thing the aurthor mentioned , but in retrospect, I can see how that plays into it .. funny things is .. i saw Desperoux ( a supposed kids movie)--- and the politics were pretty blatent - then I got to thinking .. most kids movies are very politically motivated - the main theme behind almost all of them is almost the same theme behind V. Small helpless group wins against all odds against big repressive governement/school/monDad/the system with very little skill, alot of resources, and a ***** of good luck. Oh.. and the idoligy that all big governement will fail eventualy.
Oh .. before anything gets out of hand .. "V" has stood for victory for a long time, specifically in the millitary.. the series was originally marketed as "V" for visitors, but during the series , it took on a new meaning as the humans rebeled and started to spray paint the posters to fuel propoganda and gain support. It was started by the old man who had actually lived throught the jewish camps - and he showed the youth , that V could mean victory , and be more effective than simply defacing their images, when he caught them vandalizing the posters. - KingWiqid, on 11/02/2009, -0/+3Perhaps I can learn grammer, punctuation, context, and how to complete a senence while I'm at it. Especially, if my comments have to compete with the likes of literary geniuses like yourself.
- golgotha, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Tanya Roberts FTW
- Spacejack, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Terminator holds up in many ways. V does not. The show, especially once it got established as a weekly, is about one step up from the A-Team or Knight Rider. I dug the ***** out of it as a 12-year-old, you bet. But it was crap. There's a short handful of good ideas in there, and the original miniseries is a cut above the rest, but for the most part it's just a bunch of cheap retread, done with stock NBC props, locations, --techniques-- and for the most part performers. Kenneth Johnson has a certain degree of contempt for the audience of this type of material.
- greendalek, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2True; in fact that was the iconic closing moment of the very first chapter of the original miniseries. ("If you're going to do it, do it right. I'll show you.") A bit disappointing to see its meaning shift in this new series. I'll still give it a look, but I don't have a whole lot of faith that this remake will truly GROK the undercurrent of Kenneth Johnson's original vision (i.e., "It CAN happen here.")
- cspyr0, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2"That proved so popular that NBC... reintroduced "V" as a weekly series that fall. That's when it stopped working."
No doubt history will repeat itself. It's unfortunate that the current system encourages milking successful shows until they suck.
V looks cool though, I'll definitely watch. - KingWiqid, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2do you mean stuff on sci -fi network? or sci fi in general? Cause most of ther best movies rae sci -fi. One thing about ScyFy (laaaame) network is everytime the planets are filmed from the exact same forest. Any TV show on ScyFy that has a forest scene will have the exact same forest spot in so many shows - galactica, stargate, even made for tv movies they show , they use the exact same forest with widely seperated skinny trees. If you hav'nt notivced yet, start watching .. you will see. Its probbaly a small field behind the production studio.
- acid_jazz, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2I have noticed that the backdrops are the same. Stargate Atlantis even made a few inside jokes about it.
- doogan, on 11/02/2009, -1/+3http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvjDr8KKtsE&fea ...
- JTMON, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2I will! I enjoyed it the first time around. The actress is hotter this time. Seems ok to me. Enjoy your bitterness!
- TrevorBradley, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2I'm not sure hard sci-fi applies here either. Books like Clarke's Rendezvous with Rama have the mystery of exploration of the unknown and alien. There is a very minor subplot about interplanetary human politics, but you can't argue that's the thrust of the book...
Some of Niven's work comes to mind when thinking of apolitical sci-fi stories. Though his stories do have more firm side plots understanding the human condition, they're rarely the A story.
Sometimes it really is just mystery and wonder... - TadGhosta, on 11/02/2009, -0/+2Lol - the Alien Nation movie (also by Kenneth Johnson, the creator of "V"), broke FOX's viewing record at the time. But I can certainly see how one could assume that sci-fi "typically" does poorly, what with such box office flops as Alien, Aliens, Terminator, Predator, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc., etc., etc.
Even Sci-fi on TV seems to flop. Series such as Star Trek, Heroes, the X-files, Battlestar Galactica - they were such obvious failings that I'll bet no one reading this has ever even heard of them. -
