- h0ser, on 11/04/2009, -0/+51I really think too much was revealed too soon. The characters that were revealed as visitors could have been revealed at a much later date, and more gradually for suspense. The relationship between mother and son was horribly acted, almost like an after school special. I wish they tried to convince the audience that the visitors are good and not bad, while subtly hinting at their wickedness. It's almost as if they were rushing the plot, sacrificing character development in the process. If they wanted they could wrap it all up in two more episodes.
- fluidfoundation, on 11/04/2009, -8/+55Good Story + Great Acting + Great Special Effects + Hot Strong Women = ***** next year for another dumbass reality show.
- CourageWulf, on 11/04/2009, -0/+35I don't know how they're going to get more than a season out of this. It seems like the war started mid episode... I thought they would've strung it out longer.
- primatage, on 11/04/2009, -0/+33...or the TV show of the same name from 1983?
- ThsGuyRightHere, on 11/04/2009, -2/+32I liked it. The fact that it had two Firefly alumni didn't hurt.
- darkphenox, on 11/04/2009, -1/+23I was not expecting too much from it but I was very surprised with how good the back half was.
- eastwood24, on 11/04/2009, -7/+25Who would of thought the highest rated new show on TV would have been loosely based on one of the weirdest conspiracy theories that can be found on the net.
- inefekt, on 11/05/2009, -0/+13"That's the biggest scripted series premiere rating for a freshman show this fall."
Sentences don't get more American than that. - snowcrazy, on 11/04/2009, -1/+13Don't drink too much V!
- allisonaxe, on 11/05/2009, -1/+11ground up and pressed into a filter so he can drink water that has been strained through them, absorbing their essences?
- AllHereTruth, on 11/05/2009, -3/+13Mom: Ships full of aliens are hovering above every major city, But all i care about is what my sons principal is sending me in emails.
*This about sums up the episode for me. Way too much ***** relationship drama in a show about aliens taking over the planet...But alas what is to be expected by the major networks these days. - Gnarstache, on 11/05/2009, -0/+9Michael Ironside cameo please
- PeppermintPig, on 11/05/2009, -2/+11Just because it was watched by many doesn't make it a hit. Will get a better idea about a show after the second episode.
- badqat, on 11/05/2009, -1/+9You mean, like, in a mini-series? Like the original one?
- rtaibah, on 11/05/2009, -0/+8This would show would be very annoying to search for on torrent sites :P
- idarkiswordi, on 11/05/2009, -3/+10This was actually a pretty awesome show. I just can't wait til they cancel it!
- dargoesdigging, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7I thought it was average at best. A clichéd and obvious script with 2-dimensional characters. The episode was extremely rushed with no buildup or tension established at all. The flashbacks (a la flash forward) got really annoying - Come on guys I can remember what happened 5 minutes ago in the tv show I'm watching - It's patronising to the viewer.
The glaringly obvious "universal health care" comments...subtle. The independence day pre-emptive rebukes seemed childish too, no one's gonna accuse a remake of V of ripping off their primary plot. The whole thing just seemed clumsy and forced. I looked forward to this but in the end thought it was tv for people with very short attention spans.
Morena Baccarin was almost the only redeeming characteristic, great to see her back after Firefly & SG-1. I'd label V 2009 as anti sci-fi - spaceships, aliens and little else. That's not what sci-fi is about. Calling shows like this great is an insult to the truly great shows. Battlestar/Firefly it ain't. - lichter86, on 11/05/2009, -0/+6I agree, I thought that too much was revealed too quickly. I hope that we can get some great character development now but I doubt it.
- eastwood24, on 11/04/2009, -0/+6well so it is. I've been humbled.
- daviz0, on 11/05/2009, -1/+7does it remind anyone else of earth final conflict
hopefully it will be as good if not better :) - Philbert, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5Yes, hot and strong... and with a spoon in them.
- Hetman, on 11/04/2009, -2/+7They live in 1988 also follows that conspiracy and it is cool because it has one of the best fight seens in the history cinema. "You there your fine, you there are ***** ugly!"
- allisonaxe, on 11/05/2009, -0/+5no, the original aired on two nights, and then got a sequel that ran for 3. the series that was spun off from that in the 80's was garbage and shouldn't have happened. this new one, though, looks to make up for that, but it really doesn't hold a candle to the original movies.
- compacho, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Yeah, they have a surprising amount of actors from sci-fi shows.
- netant, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4Welcome to the TV industry 2009. With the market crash, there is so little money available for pilot development, the networks have stopped funding it. Instead of paying for 12 episodes before finding out they have a dud, they're only going to give productions four episodes to pitch the show. And of course, that's a good 4 month delay before they can put out more episodes KILLING whatever momentum the new show may have developed.
- numberneal, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4mice appetizers, anyone?
- doctordbx, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4I watched it and it just seemed too rush, but then, it's a pilot fighting for airtime, can't meander along for the attention starved audiences of today. Also, based on the original, we know the aliens are gonna be bad dudes, we know they're really lizard people with fake flesh, we know they really want to farm us and eat us.
I think the biggest problem V 2009 has is that the original miniseries of V was just too damn good, and not that long ago. BSG was different because it was a reimagination in another galaxy in another time period, like the new BSG, it only went to pot after the Earth got closer and started coming home to what we call reality.
V on the other hand, is hard up against something that was already a proven winner, itself. It would have been better to be reimagined than an almost direct carbon copy. Why not air the original miniseries and pick up later, with a second arrival and how humanity deals with it a second time around. - bills534, on 11/05/2009, -1/+5yeah seriously, the V-loving douchebag kid and his husky friend are horrible.
- veins, on 11/05/2009, -1/+5remember remember the 5th of november.
- nigelmansell, on 11/05/2009, -0/+4wonder what miniseries NBC will try out next?
Roots? - bills534, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3I believe in that point of the show the V's had been there for 3 weeks? So her worrying more about her son than aliens at that point seems justified, the planet had nearly a month to get used to the idea of them being there. But overall that scene did suck because I think the kid is a terrible actor, and the whole thing seemed awkward.
- colto, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3@benroy
You are the one who needs to learn how to efficiently use Google.
Allisonaxe is 100% correct. V was a mini-series in 1983 that ran for two 90 minute nights. It was followed by the sequel/last half of the story entitled 'V: The Final Battle' the following year in which it ran for three 90 minute nights.
A crappy spinoff was created under a similar name which failed later that year, which is what I assume you were referring to. - MaTT2011, on 11/05/2009, -2/+5Here, lemme fix your equation:
Decent special effects + That one super hot chick from firefly = Hey, at least its got the hot chick from firefly.... - acknotSW, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Agreed netant, they should have dragged out the partner thing out longer. The whole story line seems a bit rushed to me after the first episode. I'm sure I'll enjoy it anyway as it moves forward, I'm just not thrilled with the pacing so far.
- fluidfoundation, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Actually I do like my women like I like my coffee. Cheap and from the back of a Circle K.
- irieKEN, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Nah; "V 2009" seems to do the trick. :P
- netant, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3I was pretty peeved with making "Wash" a bloodthirsty alien in the pilot episode. Am I the only one finding it ridiculous that someone you've worked with for years suddenly is out to kill everyone in the meet & greet group, and not even specifically target the FBI agent who would give them the most problems?
Terrible synthesis of resistance cells as well. You'd never get 20-30 people together who could identify each other after getting gitmo'ed. Nope, 6 at a time, and only one member knows the leader of the next cell. Use video to give the pitch, which also, btw, sucked and was utterly unpersuasive. And then leave it to the aliens to botch the killoff, and by their violent presence do the resistance's recruiting.
Laura Vandernoot is easily as smoldering as Morena Baccarin. The show runners should have worked the dialogue to make her more interesting, rather than a vapid recruiting "real doll". - DaviDTC, on 11/05/2009, -1/+4would have*
- shadeOfGrey, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3They stumbled onto a cheap form of anti piracy.
- Duncan3, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3They seem to have put most of the entire original series into the first 30 minutes of this one. All that's left now is lots of fighting *yawn* and CSI/24 style bad writing. It was really just awful, they set up all the main characters as one dimensional and entirely predictable.
Hopefully some channel will just run the original. - LarkStew, on 11/05/2009, -0/+3Marc Singer cameo please.
- PeppermintPig, on 11/05/2009, -2/+4As a libertarian, I'll have to disagree. My critique isn't about a lack of interesting ethical issues, but the lack of realism: Did you notice how the show completely swept over showing any realistic governmental response to the appearance of the aliens?? If that has something to do with the storyline, then that might make more sense, but it appears the alien infiltration was limited to covert agent cells.
Just like that, some teens became political envoys?? Just need your parents signature! lol... It's very out of character with the bureaucratic controlling governments in the real world. - Darksoul, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2Well though I was born in 1978, I did watch the original "V" many times over so yeah it does alot of shows in the past and present have taken alot from the original show. But yeah it kind of had the same feeling.
- daviz0, on 11/04/2009, -2/+4i liked it but i found myself wondering why they did not play it in chronological order, i dont think it added anything to the episode
- ELCad, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2"Put the glasses on! Put 'em on! "
- iblaine, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2It got picked up for 4 episodes. They're supposed to film another 4 early next year. For a studio to do that is strange.
- nigelmansell, on 11/05/2009, -0/+2no, my name is Kunta Kinte
- AllHereTruth, on 11/05/2009, -3/+5Great acting. Please tell me your joking.
- StrangeFamous, on 11/05/2009, -0/+24400 as well
- PeppermintPig, on 11/05/2009, -1/+3Revealed too much. Too much character introduction that had a negative effect on character development and story telling. Disappointing.
