- dampeal, on 07/30/2008, -0/+60Yeah I watch quite a few shows on Hulu and Joost, I just don't have the time to actually make the time when the shows are on, so it's much easier and more convenient to watch them online
- crazymaster16, on 07/30/2008, -0/+55A few years ago i watched TV all day, today i am on PC all day :)
- Jasper710, on 07/30/2008, -2/+39one day it all will be
- numberneal, on 07/30/2008, -1/+33and so is 99% of prime time music;
- toconnor, on 07/30/2008, -0/+27They only tracked "fourteen primetime shows on two major networks during the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008". This happens to correspond with the writer's strike when there was close to ZERO new episodes on television!
- MrRabbit, on 07/30/2008, -1/+18I really hope sites like Hulu catch on and every major network will show their shows online with legitimate video players (unlike ABC).
I am completely willing to watch their ads as long as I can watch at my convenience. Otherwise I'll just keep downloading seasons at a time.. I'd rather not have to though. - fantasyflamz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+14 very good point
- MrRabbit, on 07/30/2008, -1/+14I dunno, I think is getting better actually. I'm a fan of Heroes, and LOST since it started to get decent again. And I love Battlestar Gallactica.
That's not very much I guess... Ok I'll give you 93% is crap. Deal? - AnotherDiggGuy, on 07/30/2008, -2/+14Me and my buddy split on buying Heroes Season 2 in HD on xBox Live last week.
It was sweeeeet.
Okay it wasn't as good as season 1 but i was still satisfied. - Remmiz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+11I swear TV stations will never get the point that people don't mind watching ads as long as I can watch the shows online right away, whenever I want and with a high quality. But sadly most stations use a their own terrible video player with disgusting quality, annoying controls and usually don't appear for a day or two afterward.
- nothugo, on 07/30/2008, -7/+1798% of all prime time TV is rubbish.
- kokoshka, on 07/30/2008, -0/+8Hulu has the nicest flash player I've ever seen. 480p, bearable commercials, and a great interface for flipping through episodes on a big screen tv. Oh, and the best part? Arrested Development.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -4/+11I will not pay $40+ a month for Cable TV just to watch:
Battlestar
Burn Notice
Heroes - rnelsonee, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6Wow, this is a high number. I'm glad it's becoming easier. I'm moving to an urban area soon, on a month-to-month basis until I find a job in my GF's city, so I'm planning on just getting the internet and using that to watch all my TV (no yearly contract = no deals or specials). I actually just bought 1TB worth of external hard drives 10 minutes ago for it.
So my question is: what sites are best for online TV shows? I haven't been up-to-date on these types of websites. And I know diggers will know the best current options, unlike the About.com article I just read which had half the sites not working anymore... - captZEEbo, on 07/30/2008, -0/+6what's amazing to me is that more networks aren't embracing this and figuring out how to monetize it. Anyone with half a brain knows the future of media is the internet.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5DVR rules all. No commercials and high quality image and sound.
I like my T V. its big, its HD, its in front of my couch. My laptop screen is small, and streaming content at low quality isn't that fun.
I tried watching the end of Season 1 of Jerico online before S2 started....it was miserable trying to watch a show that buffers commercials in mid sentence and has super low quality. Never again will I go that route. - gfunk84, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5NBC... but still network TV.
- lesleye, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5TV? Oh you mean that big box in the corner of the room?
- Genecalypse, on 07/30/2008, -0/+5/popcorn
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+4No surprises here. The PT show I watch is The Office.... online.
- cresswga, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Your TV must be broken or you got ripped off when you bought it because mine came with an off switch. I don't have to watch anything.
- videoclipsmiami, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I'm not surprised. Eventually the two will merge.
- ToxNub, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I've really been impressed by sites like http://www.thecomedynetwork.ca . It's refreshing to see content delivered online, for free. I don't even mind watching the commercials.
- NuWeb, on 07/30/2008, -1/+4Theirs lots more they are not counting, Additional 20% they have missed off.
Easy-TV.org, ProjectFreeTv, NinjaVideo and Links4u.TV - godindav, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I wish Sony would update the flash and browser for the PS3. Streaming these shows to your big screen on your own time schedule would be awesome. I still think paying 1.99 for every episode of a TV show through the PS3 store is still too much. They need Firefox and and if the cell is as powerful as Sony claims it should at least be able to run Flash 9 through emulation... regardless of floating point power etc.
- LeeMaple, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3That's almost word for word what I would have posted, canceled my Dish sub a couple months ago, and hadn't really watched the thing in months. Usenet's and no commercials ftw.
- DarkStar3333, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3Theres a good reason for this, people are no longer bound to there TVs to watch shows when the networks dictate. With the proliferation of PVR devices suddenly you could watch what you wanted when you wanted.
The computer was a natural extension of the PVR proliferation. For most people there tastes are very specific and given the choice choice between paying $100 a month in cable bills vs. having to wait an hour extra to watch there favorite shows is a no brainier.
I have a 46" HDTV yet I have never had cable because any suitable HD package is outrageously priced. I find my money goes allot further when I put it towards additional an hard drives every 6 months.
Being able to pull up 3TB of entertainment is way better the surfing channels hoping you'll find something passable. All you need is a Xbox, PS3 and a PC with loads of drives and you can kiss goodbye to the cable bill. - KaiUno, on 07/30/2008, -0/+3I've dumped TV since I got broadband, about 10 years ago today. Usenet serves my television needs just fine. Not to mention in HD these days, something Belgium is still lacking.
- Meowbiusfox, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3I haven't missed cable and network TV the slightest bit since
I told Direct TV to go suck one over a year ago. - dmourati, on 07/31/2008, -0/+3100% here too. No TV!
- MrColdheart, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3100% for me
current episodes off all these shows up on
http://www.Hulu.com
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
The Big Bang Theory
and a lot more...
and a few movies... ALL LEGAL - AltF3, on 07/30/2008, -4/+6Lost still isn't good.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -1/+3DVR > Online viewing for one simple reason...no commercials.
- 8teve, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2No TV and no beer make Homer something something...
- flashthom, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2www.sidereel.com is the way to go. The true heir to tv-links.
- fantasyflamz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Hulu's been pretty good (watching online). Or you could buy a rapidshare account. You can get pretty fast speeds of downloading (vs watching online)
- harharharhar, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3I have not watched TV on a TV in a year.
- fantasyflamz, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2and plus it's really only 1-2 ads 4x a show (like 30 seconds each break) compared to regular tv which has 4-5 breaks of a minumum of 6 minutes of commercials. I don't mind watching 1-3 commercials, but more than 1 1/2 minutes of commercials is pushing it. That's why I like watching tv online and I like hulu too.
- str3ama, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2You can bet the Telecoms are fighting hard to make sure that television doesn't go the way of record players or betamax. If everyone turns to the Internet, they stand to make less money since most cable networks realize they can make quite a bit more of money by using the Internet as a platform to dispense their shows - the ISPS stand to gain nothing from this, as they do with cable television besides the costs we pay to them for Internet - so you can bet they're going to do a whole lot of underhanded tactics to try and gouge customer's wallets like reducing monthly bandwidth limits and asking for more money to increase these bandwidth limits.
- inactive, on 07/30/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't know, I download everything :)
- str3ama, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2well I can't speak about Usenet, but I agree with Crazymaster - I spent more time on my computer then I do watching television. Television is becoming antiquated but of course it's not yet obsolete, there are just certain things that you can't yet do with your computer that you can easily with your tv. WIth a little more time, that too shall change.
- UmbillicalEd, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1those are pretty interesting findings considering most TV shows cant be legally watched online for free. If that were true I'm sure the percentages would skyrocket.
- nothugo, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Done and done.
- cambob76, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Don't tell McCain that, it will blow his mind! "What is this 'line' and how did it steal my T.V.?". Sorry, just read a funny thing about McCain.
- MrColdheart, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1why would you wager anything...?
your already on the the internet so why don't you do a little research and find out that your wrong about your "preview" clips theory.
geezus the laziness factor if high with you.
http://www.Hulu.com - LethalGeek, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1I see no problems with the ABC player. I hit play, the video goes. Sure the unskippable ads are there but someone's gotta pay for this somehow. I can suffer random and many fewer ads on the PC vs the TV.
Hell I DVR everything off the TV and I completely miss those ads. They're least getting me online. - Lateralis1, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Maybe people don't want to watch 20 minutes worth of adverts for a 40 minute show.
- birch25, on 07/30/2008, -0/+1i watch most of my news online (so i can just watch the clips i care about without the fluff) and find myself at msnbc.com most of the time because of their amazing video player. all news sites should steal this player!
that said, hulu is great too. their library is growing everyday too. i'm really glad it's catching on. - cambob76, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Uh, use your TV as your monitor?
