- corr, on 06/16/2008, -5/+757I don't know if this will be as good with different hosts.
- Gwennyk, on 06/16/2008, -8/+614No Clarkson??
Or hampster or James?
Just not as good. - YellowDucati, on 06/16/2008, -5/+526Please don't suck.
Please don't suck.
Please don't suck. - Jambi, on 06/16/2008, -12/+341Another Brit show ruined by ***** Hollywood. I don't suppose it occurred to them that the hosts (especially Clarkson) are part of what makes Top Gear so popular?
- LeonidasStokely, on 06/16/2008, -3/+275I can see this going horribly, horribly wrong. Sorry America. But remember, BBC World Service is your friend.
- hardigree, on 06/16/2008, -3/+244Here's hoping they don't screw it up...
- djadamjay, on 06/16/2008, -5/+211this just in: NBC officially unable to create solid, original, programming anymore.
- Quake120, on 06/16/2008, -29/+214There is no way this will be as good without Jeremy, Richard, and James...The type of humor that makes Top Gear Top Gear just won't be present. It will be replaced with American humor which is a LOT less funny.
Adam Corolla? WTF were they thinking? - dbre2, on 06/16/2008, -3/+161Right...so anyway, Top Gear is back June 22nd
- Anachronus, on 06/16/2008, -4/+147I want to see a typical Clarkson review of the show. It should be glorious.
- legoalert33, on 06/16/2008, -1/+134I can't wait for the fat stig.
- kingofthisnight, on 06/16/2008, -4/+111I will stick with watching the BBC version.
- Caalro, on 06/16/2008, -56/+152Adam Carolla is NOT funny.
"You know what I hate about that car, its like a woman, it does things like a woman does them and I don't like it.' *insert laughing at his own joke here* "You know what I mean? Cuz women do things, and the car does them too."
I will not be tuning in. - Pauli92, on 06/16/2008, -2/+79Big no for me, Top Gear would just be another "normal" car show without Clarkson, Hammond and May
- HRF1, on 06/16/2008, -6/+73Top Gear is not Top Gear without the 3 British hosts and the British humour.
- Dylson, on 06/16/2008, -3/+69This is a step in the right direction I guess. However, without Clarkson, Hamster, or May, the show just won't be the same.
- mercurio, on 06/16/2008, -12/+69If Adam Carolla can handle this like he did Love Lines, it stands a chance.
- MatthewTheRaven, on 06/16/2008, -2/+54I would rather they just import the original, uncut versions from Britain. They don't even show them uncut on BBC America...
- ColorBlind, on 06/16/2008, -1/+54I'm from the USofA and I'll be sticking to the real version. NBC has a great department devoted to screwing up good ideas.
- gen2ux, on 06/16/2008, -4/+54It's not Top Gear without the treo.
- markperia, on 06/16/2008, -0/+49The show works because of the twisted chemistry between Clarkson, Hammond and May. I dunno if the same could be said with their US counterparts. Lets just not get our hopes too high up and if nothing else we can always torrent the UK one.
- Ovalteen, on 06/16/2008, -0/+45Why does there need to be a US version? Why can't US networks just air the British version? I've never understood why TV networks do this (except in the case of reality TV like Big Brother, obviously using local participants makes sense).
Without the 3 main presenters, Top Gear isn't Top Gear, it's just another car show. - Drazzim12, on 06/16/2008, -0/+43Man, the American episode was brutal wasn't it?:
Clarkson: "God Florida's awful! Nasty insects, old people, fat people, a lot of people who all offer you cheese- [adopts American accent] 'you want cheese with that? You want cheese with that'? And then they shoot you." - patricksweeney, on 08/19/2008, -7/+48Epic Fail.
The Brits make the show, and i've been watching it on BBC America anyway. Who cares? - djdigital, on 06/16/2008, -7/+47I guarantee they screw this one up.
- kidtwist, on 06/16/2008, -2/+42They'll screw it up. On the BBC's Top Gear they bash even the cars they like. Imagine how that will go over with sponsors.
- snoogit, on 06/16/2008, -12/+49This will fail.
- peagle, on 06/16/2008, -0/+35I'd question whether the US version will have the balls to bash the car manufacturers when they produce crap, or whether this is just going to be some glossy every car's awesome translation.
- arlok789, on 06/16/2008, -2/+36TIGERS RACING BADGERS!
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -2/+35I'm not convinced a palmtop device is really what puts the magic into Top Gear.
- libertao, on 06/16/2008, -6/+39Just listen to old lovelines, Carolla can be comedy gold.
- micklerlop, on 06/16/2008, -11/+43Gosh! it's going to be all about Truck, muscle cars and NASCAR with appearances of Funk Master Flex, Pimp My Ride crew....
- SwampyUK, on 06/16/2008, -1/+32Even the UK can't reproduce it - they tried to with 5th gear which is rubbish, and that had the old Top Gear presenters (Tiff and co)
- LoadStar, on 06/16/2008, -0/+29Man, I'm seriously disappointed. For a while it looked like they'd get Clarkson, Hammond, and May to host the US version as well, and I was excited... now? Not so much. I'll continue watching the BBC version. I'll give it a chance, I suppose, but I can't imagine that anything with US hosts can touch the sort of genius that they have on the UK version.
- solowCX, on 06/16/2008, -2/+31Adam Carolla is a huge car nut, he will be fine.
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -4/+32I give it 6 episodes tops.
- micklerlop, on 06/16/2008, -3/+31Yes it will.
Yes it will.
Yes it will. - themadhatter444, on 06/16/2008, -2/+29Actually, Adam is quite knowledgeable about cars. I've been listening to his morning show for a couple of years now, and if memory serves, he owns a Mini, Lamborghini Murcielago, and a Ferrari 360 CS.
It's not going to be half as good as the British Top Gear, but don't write it off just because the hosts aren't the same. - iashraf, on 06/16/2008, -7/+33LOLOLOLOLOL
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are the people who have made this show what it is today, a big hit here in the UK. NBC should just run the new series which is starting in a few weeks and not try and make their own version.
Just to add, I'd rather watch repeats of past top gear eps than watch the ***** NBC copy. - falkonv7l, on 06/16/2008, -0/+22Now which American auto maker will buy the most ad space.
I love Top Gear, what is wrong with just broadcasting it in the US as it appears in Europe. - Jambi, on 06/16/2008, -0/+21That press release is from 1995, what else is new?
- Ksg89, on 06/16/2008, -15/+36Epic fail
- paker, on 06/16/2008, -11/+30The only way the new show will be any good is if Adam Carolla crashes a jet dragster at over 400mph. I'll watch that!
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+20I'd guess there needs to be an American version so the mass market doesn't get confused at all the European cars. Not an issue for the hardcore who will be watching it for the presenters anyway, but I can't imagine the USA getting excited over a Vauxhall VXR.
- FanofFilm, on 06/16/2008, -1/+19Actually, if you knew what you were writing about, you'd know that Carolla hates NASCAR and refers to its fans as retards. On his radio show he talks a lot about preferring rally, tourismo, and the like. Also that he has no love for American cars, especially muscle cars. Also that he referred to the Dodge Charger as a pansy. He goes on about those subjects often.
I don't know about the other two so I won't even profess to their knowledge or preference of cars. - 9bpm9, on 06/16/2008, -3/+21Can NBC make their own shows anymore?
- thepretext, on 06/16/2008, -2/+20It won't be nearly as good. For one, they won't have nearly as large a budget to do insane things as they have on the BBC, and what they do they'll have to tone down for American TV. The hosts of the British show can basically do whatever the hell they feel like because they have a budget the size of lost and the show is proven. No doubt NBC will want the american version to be much more conservative until they feel it has caught on.
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/16/2008, -4/+22The Office is pretty good. you have to admit that.
- inactive, on 06/16/2008, -1/+18Even if it does suck, (which it probably will) who the ***** cares? The UK (proper version) Top Gear is still going to run.
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/16/2008, -3/+20Unless they have those exotic cars that are on the BBC version then this show is DOA. This is going to be a giant product placement commercial, instead of being an entertaining show.
Also they really need to pay attention to cinematography and production value. I'm sure the American version will go cheap on this and ruin the show. -
