Top 50 science fiction television shows of all time
boston.com — Based on years of sci fi viewing experience and through a variety of online sources, we've come up with our picks for the Top 50 science fiction shows of all time.
- 925 diggs
- digg it
- AmyVernon, on 07/27/2008, -32/+19Sorry, but I think DS9 beats TNG... But otherwise, a good list...
- Borgcube636, on 07/28/2008, -6/+5Sorry, but I think TNG beats Voyager which beats DS Niner
- Taciturn, on 07/28/2008, -7/+3Buried for saying Voyager beats anything.
- banido, on 07/28/2008, -3/+4I agree, dugg.
- Turbojugend27, on 07/28/2008, -8/+2DS9 was terrible. Voyager is an automatic failure, because we all know a woman could not captain a starship
- rhinopig, on 07/28/2008, -2/+2Its hard to say DS9 is very underrated and TNG is overrated but they were both very good overall.
What I'm suprised about is how many people think Babylon 5 was better than DS9. I keep trying to watch B5 (it seemed cool when I was a kid) but the acting and production values are just horrible. I keep trying to see past them and look at the plot and writing, but honestly I can't tell if they are any good or not because of how horribly the lines are delivered.
- Borgcube636, on 07/28/2008, -6/+5Sorry, but I think TNG beats Voyager which beats DS Niner
- aigulf, on 07/27/2008, -1/+16850 ***** pages?
I'd be more forgiving of that if boston.com didn't redirect me to an advertisement every 3rd page...- shaXian, on 07/27/2008, -4/+3A-f*cking-men
- ThatCreepyGuy, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2You can use "*****" on digg, I promise I won't tell your mom.
- mhanley, on 07/27/2008, -0/+32AND the fact that the NEXT button kept moving around as the pictures changed sizes. Bad design.
- tacojohn48, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2The ones at the top didn't move; just the ones at the bottom. Still was pretty annoying.
- sporg, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10 I closed it as soon as I saw the page count, you can generate your add revenue elsewhere assholes. From the comments I can see its ***** list anyway probably cobbled together specifically for submission to digg.
I wonder what percentage they get for dumping this garbage on the front page.- takethefort, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Cobbled together indeed. 50 pages with 1 item each for ad revenue, lovely stuff.
How can a show like Dark Angel be so high up, compared to say Buffy. Is Xena really better than Voyager and Firefly? Who makes these lists?
And what is more frustrating, that they made such a list just to game digg users for ad impressions, or that their plan probably worked.
- takethefort, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Cobbled together indeed. 50 pages with 1 item each for ad revenue, lovely stuff.
- diggydougie, on 07/28/2008, -3/+5What ads? Try noscript or adblocker in firefox.
- theviceroy, on 07/28/2008, -1/+6like i'm still going to click through 50 ***** pages of a picture and a paragraph of copy...
- getrdone656, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3But futurama's on there!
Dugg for #41 - jdmcadam, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Agreed. Poor format, at least half a dozen series that would not be considered, and some serious omissions (Farscape, Red Dwarf, The BBC Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, DS9 etc).
- rhinopig, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1It wasn't that bad with noscript. Just click through the ones you don't care about.
- loopyloopy, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1these lists are so ***** annoying.
its as if they're created to exploit the habits of diggers to get us to read more ads.
- shaXian, on 07/27/2008, -4/+3A-f*cking-men
- Yeknom, on 07/27/2008, -2/+64Are you kidding me? No Red Dwarf???
- emoneyd, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6Yeah, WTF mate! That's what I was thinking the entire time. You took the words right out of my mouth.
- TheBigBad, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Buffy The Vampire Slayer not in the top ten? And behind such shows as Wonder Woman and Xena? Gimmee a ***** break. ***** you boston.com, your list and your 50 clicks.
- 24imac, on 07/28/2008, -0/+7No red Dwarf, no digg.
I need to pull out my Dwarf DVD's and have another marathon. - randomstupid, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2wow ... no Red Dwarf ... in my top 5 SciFi shows - and my top50 of all time .
- imcharming, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Totally agree
- Brododium, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4Freakin' smegheads.
- jaytea90, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1YOU WENT THROUGH ALL 50 PAGES?! boy...i didn't think even diggers were THAT bored...
- IgWannA, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1and no earth above and beyond. list is bollocks.
- LightUrple, on 07/27/2008, -3/+61Xena: Warrior Princess is science fiction? Really?
- johndi, on 07/27/2008, -2/+9Sure, it's right up there with Buffy the Vampire slayer. Intelligent design tells us that gods, vampires, and the supernatural are real. Have Wonder Woman rope me up with her magic lasso if you think I'm lying.
/sarcasm - curtisag, on 07/27/2008, -1/+7Technically it's not sci-fi, but I don't mind it being on the list. Xena ***** owns.
- sap959, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4...my penis
- 1timeuser, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1I often dream about Xena tying me to the bed posts....
- ericdano, on 07/28/2008, -0/+9Xena, but no Hercules? WTF?
No Farscape? And if you put two lame American cartoons on as SciFi (Jetsons? Come on), then you need to put all the great series that are dubbed in English that were on.
Robotech, Star Blazers, Speed Racer........- twinklyJesus, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1TIME TUNNEL
- radsprack, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't necessarily put Speed Racer in the sci-fi arena.
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -5/+2Sci-fi and fantasy are often in the same boat and tell similar stories with similar character and plot dynamics. The primary difference between sci-fi and fantasy is the level of technology present... which looking at examples in other genres that's usually not considered a big enough difference to even warrant a different sub-category.
The only reasons sci-fi and fantasy are seen as different is because when people think about *Science* Fiction they automatically think ray guns and space ships. Truth be told most sci-fi and fantasy fans consider fantasy a sub-category of sci-fi. - edwartica, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2They had the most liberal definition of Sci-fi I've ever seen.
- naz2292, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Seriously, if Xena was there Hercules should have been there.
- Gabs2010, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0I wouldn't say Xena was sci-fi, but yay! I love Xena and it beating out Buffy made my day ;) Not that I don't love Buffy as well... but heh. And Hercules sucked, thats why it wasn't on the list.
- johndi, on 07/27/2008, -2/+9Sure, it's right up there with Buffy the Vampire slayer. Intelligent design tells us that gods, vampires, and the supernatural are real. Have Wonder Woman rope me up with her magic lasso if you think I'm lying.
- merdiesel, on 07/27/2008, -6/+5Is that Bret from Flight of the Conchords?..
- chadwalters23, on 07/27/2008, -5/+73No Farscape. Buried.
- PorchSong, on 07/27/2008, -1/+15No *****, how you can even remotely exclude Farscape is beyond me--Farscape is easily a top 5'er.
- haydesigner, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4I have to totally agree. I 'found' Farscape 3 months before it ended... I still can't believe Sci-Fi channel was so shortsighted with it. One of the first sci-fi shows I had seen that had top writing along with top acting and good production value (usually there is only one or another, sometimes two).
- btdonovan, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Likewise.
- vanzant38, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4Farscape is a NO-BRAINER on this list. damn!!!!
- chadwalters23, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2It does my heart good to see so much Farscape love. :)
- PorchSong, on 07/27/2008, -1/+15No *****, how you can even remotely exclude Farscape is beyond me--Farscape is easily a top 5'er.
- JackBundaberg, on 07/27/2008, -1/+5Great list but it's a pity that I'm too lazy and impatient to read all the pages
- Herv3, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Actually, I went through 1-15 and judging by what I saw the list sucked.
- Yage2006, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1No its not a great list. If you took the time to read the 50 ***** pages. There are cid-coms all kinds of crap not even scifi .
What a ***** joke.
Bury this pile of *****.
- Genecalypse, on 07/27/2008, -2/+7450 ***** PAGES?! WHAT THE HELL
- compsciguy, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2I think I have carpal tunnel from trying to click through all that...
- getrdone656, on 07/28/2008, -1/+1YEAH!
Let's leave the lists to Cracked.com
- zadadka, on 07/27/2008, -1/+7Colonel Wilma Deering.............ommmmmmmm!!
- spritom, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Yeah...a Colonel!
"I'll be in my bunk!"
- spritom, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Yeah...a Colonel!
- StripeyMagee, on 07/27/2008, -2/+5A few stinkers, but all in all a pretty good list.
- shaXian, on 07/27/2008, -0/+65Here's the top 10
10 - Sliders
9 - MST3K
8 - Dr. Who
7 - The Twilight Zone
6 - SG1
5 - Babylon 5
4 - X-Files
3 - Star Trek - TNG
2 - Battlestar Galactica
1 - Star Trek - ToS- proliance, on 07/27/2008, -5/+1I'd bump Sliders for Lost in Space.
- mCanada, on 07/28/2008, -9/+19How the hell does SG1 beat Dr. Who AND the Twilight Zone?
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -8/+6Because Dr Who is very very cheesy (and as such loses a lot of credibility amongst hard-scifi fans) and twilight zone lacks a persistent plot to keep the majority of people interested.
- mCanada, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3wolferz: you were /s right? Dr. Who is only one of the (the?) longest running Sci-Fi's ever (for good reason). The original was of the few shows to truly delve into "hard sci-fi" at points, the Twilight Zone was equally ground breaking for it's time. SG1? MacGyver running around with an M-16 in Vancouver.
- JustinCase18, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Considering the Dr Who has been on the air longer than many diggers have been breathing, you're bound to have a bad year or two. Add to the mix that the original series (before 1989) had the restrictions of "live" filming so any mishaps had to be ad-libbed as if it was live theater. You also have to consider that the early seasons were considered "children's television" by the BBC, limited certain plot devices, etc.
All things considered, like the original Star Trek, Dr Who set the bar for future shows. Science Fiction does not have to be all computer generate graphics and fancy special effects (but they don't hurt)
- listrophy, on 07/28/2008, -5/+24I used to watch Sliders a bunch back in the day. As such, I am in a position of authority to declare that "Sliders" has no place in the top 10.
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -2/+5Then I think you were watching a different Sliders. The last two seasons sucked, but everything before that was golden.
It was certainly better than Dr Who and MST3K and strictly speaking better than twilight zone.... though I'll give twilight zone credit for it's historical significance. - DivisibleByZero, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1I just recently tried to watch Sliders. I made it to the last season and just couldn't bear it anymore. That season was terrible.
The first two seasons were great, but the show really jumped the shark in season 3 when they decided that instead of going to universes with alternate histories, they'd go to magic worlds where the laws of physics worked differently, each of which happened to poorly emulate some other scifi/fantasy show.
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -2/+5Then I think you were watching a different Sliders. The last two seasons sucked, but everything before that was golden.
- LiberalKid, on 07/28/2008, -2/+7I don't see how the original star trek beats Twilight Zone or BSG for that matter..
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -1/+5Because it changed the face of science fiction on tv. Bad acting, b-movie plots, and lack luster special effects might make it, strictly speaking, a rather piss poor show but it brought sci-fi to the main stream of the day at a time when sci-fi was still considered kids stuff.
- shakin, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3The original Star Trek belongs at number one for a list of the most influential shows of all time (unless you want to put Twilight Zone at number one), but it's a crappy show in every way.
I think Firefly gets in the top 5 if you don't take off points for only having one season. It's certainly better than Star Trek: TNG and ToS. - LiberalKid, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Twilight Zone was a better show and ages ahead of its time as far as issues that were talked about on TV. The whole reason Rod Serling used science fiction, was because if you had an alien say something that could be seen as rather critical of society, it was all right. Aside from, I don't feel that Star Trek was the first sci-fi space adventure show Rocky Jones, Space Ranger while albeit a kids show aired before it and Lost in Space aired around the same time. While it did have some very notable moments to it, William Shatner isn't anything special when it comes to acting. As far as the best sci-fi show I've ever seen it would easily go to BSG, and I'd agree that firefly should at the very least knock Babylon 5 out of the top 5.
- antoniuk, on 07/28/2008, -10/+6I am sorry but BSG is not only the greatest Sci Fi show of all time but one of the greatest dramas of all time. To not put it at number one shows a lack of experience.
Star Trek was ground breaking but it was hardly good sci fi. It is an insult to place it on top simply because it is a trend setter. If we follow this logic, The twilight zone should be number one.- Silentshadow900, on 07/28/2008, -3/+3The Twilight Zone SHOULD be number one, and then TNG and then Battlestar Galactica.
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -2/+1@Silentshadow900
what trend did twilight zone set? I'm pretty sure there are only two shows anything like it, tales from the crypt and tales from the dark side. - cnot3, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2Star Trek is ***** awesome. Jim Kirk singlehandedly ended rascism towards interracial couples, be they black/white, green/white, blue/white, or blue/green.
- LiberalKid, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3You think racism towards interracial couples is gone in America, you need to align yourself a little more with reality.
- MeatyVitamin, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I managed to call the top 5 in exact order! After you read the first 45 it becomes pretty apparent which ones are missing though.
- nextyoyoma, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3so, after you read virtually the entire list, you pretty much know what isn't on it? Wow, never would've figured that one out...
- MarkTaiwan, on 07/28/2008, -0/+4Considering there is 50 shows on the list, I guess I should be happy Doctor Who made it to the top ten.
- elementfire, on 07/28/2008, -2/+1No Firefly? "Tsai boo shr!"
http://www.fireflywiki.org/Firefly/ChinesePhrases- SteveCUBE, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2#17
- elementfire, on 07/29/2008, -0/+1I meant in his top 10.
- ReDBuLLCuRT, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3I thought Stargate SG1 would be a few spots better. I've seen about 90% of all episodes and I don't recall ever being disappointed. 6th out 50, not bad. I'm surprised with Twilight Zone being outside the top 3 though.
- xstarsprinklesx, on 07/28/2008, -8/+3Top Ten should have been:
10. Wonderfalls
9. Eureka
8. Heroes
7. Battlestar Galactica (new)
6. Star Trek: TNG
5. Firefly
4. Alias
3. Buffy
2. Doctor Who
1. Babylon 5- jdorough, on 07/28/2008, -2/+2Dugg for Babylon 5 topping the list and everything that follows. Also, thumbs up for including Alias. Most people don't think of it as being sci-fi, but it most definitely is and is fantastic.
- supermanred, on 07/28/2008, -2/+2I agree with your 10, but I would order them differently, with Doctor Who 1 Heroes 2 Firefly 3...
But we're at least on the same page, unlike this stupid Boston.com article... - SketchaMPM, on 07/28/2008, -2/+1Would have dugg up for including Eureka, Heroes and Firefly, but dugg down for excluding X-Files. Unforgiveable.
- flipmoe, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Come on, seriously, Futurama deserves a spot in the top 10!
- smitas, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Aren't there more?
- mhanley, on 07/27/2008, -6/+20No Heroes?
- MasonZombie, on 07/28/2008, -4/+10Yes, no Heroes.
Watch the better version, The 4400.- imcharming, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1I'm actually disappointed that neither made the list
- mufman, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0for real man heroes is the *****
- MasonZombie, on 07/28/2008, -4/+10Yes, no Heroes.
- PHLAK, on 07/27/2008, -6/+74Zena beat Firefly?! Buried!
- obsolite, on 07/27/2008, -3/+7Ahem. "Xena".
I love you, Lucy Lawless.- edwartica, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Xena can fly?
I told you, I'm not Xena. I'm Lucy Lawless. - Gabs2010, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0Hee! Lucy rules!
- edwartica, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Xena can fly?
- muzfuz, on 07/28/2008, -0/+9http://youtube.com/watch?v=ublUU2ISTMU
- patriotsfan82, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6Is it bad that I can sing along to the entire song?
- MindTrigger, on 07/28/2008, -0/+6*****, I miss that show.
- versualize, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Anything beat Firefly? Buried.
- obsolite, on 07/27/2008, -3/+7Ahem. "Xena".
- RabidFurby, on 07/27/2008, -5/+12#5. Babylon 5... really?
- Kale27, on 07/28/2008, -2/+10Should be higher.
- Eternic, on 07/28/2008, -8/+6I've been watching the entire Babylon 5 series and movies recently and it is probably the worst show I've ever seen and I'm a big fan of sci fi shows. Maybe it seemed better when it was new, but it's torture watching the later seasons of it now.
I can't believe it's at number 5 ahead of shows like Firefly, Buffy and Stargate SG1. Also why is Buffy on there and not Angel? Terrible list.- haydesigner, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2"I've been watching the entire Babylon 5 series and movies recently and it is probably the worst show I've ever seen and I'm a big fan of sci fi shows."
Are you kidding?? The writing was fan-*****-tastic. Admittedly, the acting was always B-grade at best (and D at worst), but J. Michael Straczynski was brilliant (although TNT tried their best to even kill that the last two seasons).
Seriously, watch it again, and appreciate the brilliant writing.
- haydesigner, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2"I've been watching the entire Babylon 5 series and movies recently and it is probably the worst show I've ever seen and I'm a big fan of sci fi shows."
- shadowblade989, on 07/28/2008, -1/+1lololol their both five!!!1 lol
- dsully215, on 07/27/2008, -5/+10Lost at 11? Psh.
- lukelucas, on 07/27/2008, -4/+27Doctor Who at 8?
back to the TARDIS, Donna. this article is lost forever in the Medusa Cascade, beyond even our help. let the Shadow Proclamation figure this one out.- ch1x0r3r, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I miss Donna :(
- supermanred, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I never thought I would say this, but me too.
- ch1x0r3r, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I miss Donna :(
- Avaseal, on 07/27/2008, -7/+9Where the ***** is Earth 2?! mid-90's...Tim Curry was on there for like 3 episodes..."Ello Poppet" Bionic sick Kid, Rebecca Gayheart...anyone? wtf!
- Chairboy, on 07/28/2008, -2/+8Oh, we know what it is.
It just wasn't very good. - necromancer, on 07/28/2008, -4/+3Ignore Chairboy, it WAS good. Maybe not top 10 good, but I mean, certainly top-50 good.
- Chairboy, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3Do not ignore me! Look upon my works, ye, and despair! I am Chairboy, HEAR ME ROAR!
I do like your assertion that it was top negative 50 good. I assume the Top -50 describes the least interesting and compelling science fiction shows on television.
- Chairboy, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3Do not ignore me! Look upon my works, ye, and despair! I am Chairboy, HEAR ME ROAR!
- Krysis, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Not to mention "Space: Above and Beyond"
How can you go wrong with space marines?
Buried.- Chairboy, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2S:A&B found a way.
- Avaseal, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Damn you Chairboy!!! that was clearly a hyphen and not a negative symbol! anyways unless you bought the whole series on DVD, you missed a lot of the episodes cause they only aired about half of them.
- Chairboy, on 07/28/2008, -2/+8Oh, we know what it is.
- curtisag, on 07/27/2008, -15/+11 - Battlestar Galatica
2 - Stargate: SG1
3 - Star Trek TNG
4 - Star Trek DS9
5 - Star Trek Voyager
6 - X-files
7 - Babylon 5
8 - Xena
9 - Stargate: Atlantis
10 - Farscape
I haven't seen firefly so it might rank up there in the top 10.- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2ok no. You put voyager in the top 10... that absolutely a no. I like voyager, but no not a top ten show. Same with xena and DS9. Star Trek deserves it's top spot. Star Trek changed the face of science fiction and every other show on the list would not exist if it wasn't for star trek... every scifi show since then just makes star trek more awesome for this fact.
#1 Star Trek
Bad acting, bad plots, bad special effects, but changed the face of science fiction and is has influenced every science fiction movie and show since.
#2 Battle Star Galactica (original)
Better acting, plot, and special effects than Star Trek it was actually cutting edge and more ground breaking as far as sci-fi (rather than politics) the time. It was also some what more "cerebral" and lacking the "relevant to the times" nature of Star Trek. As such it was not as widely accepted and had a much less significant impact on sci-fi on tv. It did however have a tremendous impact of the movies of the time and is sited by George Lucas as one of the inspirations for the original Star Wars trilogy and by Arthur C. Clark as one of the shows that helped Sci-fi lose it's "kids only" image.
#3 Babylon 5
Brought the idea of the Sci-fi Saga back to America for the first time since the original Battle Star Galactica. Raised the bar for acting and special effects in television Sci-fi but also introduced a massive plot taking place over decades... the likes of which hasn't been seen on American tv since.
#4 X-Files
Cheesy plots and back yard special effects are common throughout this one. Yet, it had compelling acting and an over arching plot that kept viewers coming back for more. Today it's concepts are considered dated and boring but it remains a huge influence on modern sci-fi television.
#5 Battle Star Galactica (new)
Top shelf special effects, acting, and story. the new BSG has broken ground for both science fiction and television in general by constantly pushing the limits. BSG is possibly the greatest influence TV in general has had from the science fiction genre... with the exception of the original Star Trek. Time will tell what it's real legacy is but the effects of it are already being felt.
I think that is much more reasonable. The legacy of a show should have a much larger effect on its "greatness" than the shows inherent quality. Any show that didn't in some way change sci-fi or raise the bar doesn't belong in the top 5. - curtisag, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2It doesn't matter if it changed the face of sci-fi or not, it's not a good show with good acting or a plot. It is inferior to modern sci-fi by leaps and bounds, and no sentimentality will change that. The original series is crap.
- wolferz, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2ok no.
- patriotsfan82, on 07/27/2008, -2/+49Firefly at 15 is a real disappointment to me, especially since they have so little to say about it.
- muzfuz, on 07/28/2008, -1/+3http://youtube.com/watch?v=ublUU2ISTMU
- idc5, on 07/28/2008, -1/+6Outer Limits on there?
- rand21althor, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1It's at #13.
- gmuslera, on 07/28/2008, -1/+21They seem to not have clear the difference between science fiction, fantasy, terror, spy, west, detectives and so on genres. They have Buffy, Batman, Tales from the Crypt, The man from UNCLE, Wild Wide West and more there, where if well could be some (plot) device that is pure fantasy, is enough for them to put the entire serie under the science fiction umbrella. Im amazed they didnt put there the simpsons or south park,as the halloween episodes in one and a main char that rise from the dead every episode in the other.
Even taking away that intrusions, that they put near the bottom of the list Buck Rogers is a clear signal of what they (dont) have in mind. - dzelika, on 07/28/2008, -1/+29Buried for not listing Farscape!
- damian7, on 07/28/2008, -7/+15X-Files is NOT worse than Star Trek,
BTW, ***** that website- haydesigner, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Well, since TOG is #1, then that means everything is worse that ST. Sucks to be you.
- dunezone, on 07/28/2008, -0/+23Did they honestly ***** forget The Prisoner? That in itself is a crime against Science Fiction.
- DeviantBoi, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3I went through that whole list, just to see where they placed it. I was shocked when I got to number one (where I expected it to be) and it just wasn't there.
- borez, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4And Blake's 7, and The Tomorrow People and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Eureka
and on and on.- ericdano, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4Blake's 7 is a GREAT SciFi series. I watch it every now and then. Avon rules. Character driven show.
Eureka should be on there as well.

- kootron, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0My thoughts exactly. WTF?
- WhiteMike87, on 07/28/2008, -3/+15The 4400? Dead Like Me??
- capo327, on 07/28/2008, -0/+5HELL YES! Dead Like Me should be on any best of TV list. I wonder when that damn movie will come out. I got pissed when it was delayed.
- WhiteMike87, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1The movie is straight to DVD, and there are many changes to the cast, such as NO RUBE (a new person [desmond from lost] will be taking his place as leader), a new person playing Daisy, etc. However, the movie will be awesome, nevertheless.

- dwright99, on 07/28/2008, -2/+10Add Farscape and then put Outer Limits and Twilight Zone 1 and 2. Then we can argue over the rest.
- 8ight, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Damn shame Twilight Zone wasn't somewhere up at the top. My wife and I are working our way through the entire series from episode 1. Obsolete Man has always been my favorite episode... but there are so many great ones. And I echo the comment made below by fartmungerer, "Rod Serling was a badass"!
- Borgcube636, on 07/28/2008, -4/+5Ohh.. I miss Andromeda. Season 4 was so good, but they ruined the series with Season 5.
- albinorhino101, on 07/28/2008, -0/+16I wouldn't even classify half of the shows as sci-fi
- Tyrghast, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4Top 50? I hope they weren't overly critical in their selections!
- Maxjan, on 07/28/2008, -1/+8Funny enough The Boston Globe is the first place I'd go to give me a top 50 Sci-Fi list.
/sarcasm - antoniuk, on 07/28/2008, -3/+10Buried for not putting BSG on top and no farscape. whoever wrote this is clueless on sci fi and should never again broach the subject.
- Roagie, on 07/28/2008, -1/+1Did anyone else notice that BSG's writing has taken a turn downhill since season 3? The whole religion thing (cylons especially) is really pissing me off.
- jazzstage, on 07/28/2008, -0/+7Put it all on one page or it didn't happen.
- cheappop, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4Buried for Twilight Zone not being at least in the top 3. I could forgive a top 3 because most episodes are more drama oriented, but come the ***** on.
- tackle, on 07/28/2008, -1/+33Futurama at 41 ? WTF?
- wastelander, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4..beat out by thee Jetsons?!
- fuzzlog, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I think the Simpsons are going to be on for 30 years just to beat the Jetsons' longivity.
- wastelander, on 07/28/2008, -1/+4..beat out by thee Jetsons?!
- Zlorp, on 07/28/2008, -5/+8how about "only 50 sci-fi shows ever made"
- DErallde, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1There are more than just those 50 shows, if you read the comments you would have seen a nice list of others that didn't (for unknown reasons to me) make the list.
- Benprofane, on 07/28/2008, -0/+8re MST3K:
"A man finds himself trapped on an orbiting space station with wacky robots and a sadistic woman who forces him to watch the worst B horror flicks ever made"
If you're only paying attention to the post-Doctor Forrester and TV's Frank MST3K, you have not earned the right to rate the show, *****.- Cerebron, on 07/28/2008, -0/+0I won't comment on the quality of the riffs (because I nearly always enjoy them) but the b-movies were better towards the end while the quality of the skits went down somewhat.
- funklor, on 07/28/2008, -5/+9The author can blow me. Voyager is a complete piece of crap, it was Star Trek for kids. Seven of Nine == TNA, and with guest characters like "The Rock"? Please. DS9 should've taken its place. Though new BSG makes all look like kids stuff.
- Saint3k, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Couldn't agree more.
- Stormwern, on 07/28/2008, -1/+1News flash, star trek is for kids :)
- lexbi, on 07/28/2008, -7/+4Where the ***** is Heroes? And Lost should have been higher...
- Barryke, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Fiction involving timetravel does NOT imply it is Science fiction. It could, however.
Heroes != SF imho
- Barryke, on 07/29/2008, -0/+2Fiction involving timetravel does NOT imply it is Science fiction. It could, however.
- kitsua, on 07/28/2008, -2/+11Futurama should be in the top ten. Red Dwarf should be there. BSG should be No.1. 50 pages sucks.
That is all.- Henchman24, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1Your newsletter, I wish to subscribe to it.
- fartmungerer, on 07/28/2008, -1/+9futurama at 41 is *****. Twilight Zone should be top 3, too; Rod Serling's a badass
- Cubeforce, on 07/28/2008, -2/+25No DS9, No buys.
Along with TNG this is the pinnacle of Star Trek TV, it baffles me that the dull "reset button every week" Voyager beats the awesomeness that is DS9. Anyone that has watched the series finale (something like 7 episodes back to back) knows how good DS9 is.- MFF37, on 07/28/2008, -0/+10i agree loved DS9 its my fav out of all the star treks, the fact that it isn't on the list is bs
- krisper, on 07/28/2008, -2/+1DS9 rules. It's too bad that Ron Moore had to go on from DS9 to do a mopey melodrama based on the greatest scifi cliche of all time: robots that look just like humans.
- LiberalKid, on 07/28/2008, -3/+2What's too bad is how much of a tool you are.
- Orchid64, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2I believe Voyager gets much more credit than it deserves because Jeri Ryan's breasts beat Avery Brook's bald brown head.
- jayhawk03, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2buried...DS9 is way better than voyager...
- Nick519, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1QFT.
- kidathinnes, on 07/28/2008, -2/+3Nice to see Firefly up there. Loved that show and Serenity is one of my favorite sci-fi movies to date.
- userperson, on 07/28/2008, -2/+3up there? not nearly as high as it should be.
- kidathinnes, on 07/28/2008, -3/+1sure its in the top ten to me, but 17/50 is not low. settle down
- Aidje, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3@kidathinnes For Firefly, yes it is low. Way low. Easily number 1.
- kidathinnes, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1alright alright it should be number one. its the best sci fi tv show of all time.
- userperson, on 07/28/2008, -2/+3up there? not nearly as high as it should be.
- jave8u, on 07/28/2008, -1/+5I never watched much of either, but the Dark Angel is listed as number 19 while Buffy is posted as 27? Eh?
- allfatherblack, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2Dark Angel belongs on no list of good-anything. That is a glaring typo and/or brain deficiency.
- logic11, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Dark Angel season 1 was good...
Okay, maybe not good, but at least watchable (unlike season 2)
- logic11, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2Dark Angel season 1 was good...
- DivisibleByZero, on 07/28/2008, -0/+3Season 1 of Dark Angel was great. When they introduced the dog-man character in season 2. Yeah, that was kind of lame.
- allfatherblack, on 07/28/2008, -1/+2Dark Angel belongs on no list of good-anything. That is a glaring typo and/or brain deficiency.
- mordochai, on 07/28/2008, -7/+2The only 50 SF shows ever put on television.
- borez, on 07/28/2008, -3/+2Metal Mickey
No...wait - Ne007, on 07/28/2008, -2/+12How the ***** could they have not included farscape in there!
NOOBS!
BURIED! - JanusTheDoorman, on 07/28/2008, -3/+20Firefly is worse than Voyager? Gimme a break.
- ChileanGoD, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2The hell with it... lets do a 100 top science fiction television shows of all time...
..ahh... the heel with it... lets do them ALL! - brundlefly, on 07/28/2008, -8/+2How the hell is the new Battlestar Galactica a "modern-day remake." We're not living in the future, are we?
- Stormwern, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1The only significant differences are tillium fuel, FTL drive and robots/ai. If we could breech orbit without rockets we'd have a space fleet too by now.
