- schrutefan, on 08/05/2008, -0/+33Most of this list is *****.
4) Gilmore Girls
-Going to Yale killed the show... 4 seasons later.
5) Veronica Mars
-The ratings were always pitiful. Many people were surprised they got a third season. Going to college had nothing to do with its cancellation.
7) Buffy the Vampire Slayer
-Buffy ended 4 seasons after she started college.
9) The O.C.
-Again, nothing to do with college. Mischa Barton wanted out, and that was pretty much the end of it. - NextGenXbox, on 08/05/2008, -1/+33Boy Meets World never jumped the shark!!!
- JasonTD, on 06/26/2009, -0/+29Echoing what a lot of folks commented on the original website, having Buffy on the list doesn't make sense. Only the first three seasons of Buffy were pre-college, and there were four more seasons after she went to college. That definitely wasn't the series ending "soon after," and Buffy wasn't even canceled when it eventually ended. Joss Whedon wrapped it up and ended it himself.
- CanarsieBK, on 08/04/2008, -0/+21i am still mad about the saved by the bell: the college years. i guess this is why the simpsons and south park have been so popular for so long.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -2/+23So true, a lot of shows got killed by trying to make a follow-up in college.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -3/+20Weddings, babies, and going off to college - can you say JUMP THE SHARK?
- AmyVernon, on 08/04/2008, -1/+18disagree about Gilmore Girls; it lasted through college, and the main reason it went off the air was because they forced Amy Sherman-Palladino off her creation; without her, the last year wasn't as zippy and they at the last minute decided not to continue it. ok, i'm a geek.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+12never watched this. mebbe because i was 25 at the time. no show has done college well, cause in college no one cares how you look
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -1/+12Facts of Life got better when they went to college! I mean Blair got chunky and all but I use to have a crush on Donna McKeon. Now when the Brady Bunch got up in age, they brought in Artie, Sam and Alice's lovechild. Sucked the wind right of the show. Don't even get me started with what they pulled on Different Strokes and the trouble it got them all into.
- Cancerkitty, on 08/04/2008, -2/+13That show was just awful, but then it was awful when they were in high school too.
- gskill, on 08/04/2008, -1/+12Saved by the Bell college years wasn't that bad.
- iamsmooth, on 08/05/2008, -0/+11This article sucks.
The list basically consisted of this:
(# on list). (Show name)
This show was great until they went to college.
Repeat.
All the explanations were basically the same, but rewritten. How does something so dull make it to the front page of Digg? - CobaltBlue, on 08/05/2008, -0/+11Make The L Word with Veronica, Buffy and the Gilmore Girls and you have a show that I might just watch.
- ZombieSociety, on 08/05/2008, -0/+11Boy Meets World? Seriously? Please. That's when they introduced Rachel and Angela, rounding out the trifecta of main-character-love-interests that I wanted to nail.
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+10There really aren't any memorable college shows...why is that?
- yuutokun, on 08/05/2008, -0/+9Its annoying when people push the facts just so they can get a 10 point list on their blog up.
- louiebaur, on 08/04/2008, -0/+9Beverly Hills 90210 wow that was addicting...Not really
- JerichoSam, on 08/04/2008, -0/+8I don't think I watched any of these shows more than once or twice.
- aywwts4, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Also some shows jump the shark by Not going to college.
Like that 70s show, five kids, graduate high school, at least some of them should start their adult lives, transition into the 80s, move to Madison, and go to college. Hell, Kelso cound have been that creepy dude who just moves there for the chicks and beer. Instead they just sit around in the basement, do nothing, act like highschoolers, stay in the 70s, change little, stagnate and lose their funny.
A change of location is what the show needed, college plots would have been a good thing for the show that went on a bit too long. - TheWriteGuy, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8I think part of the problem is that the college experience is generally more inclusive than the high school experience. Most people have positive memories about college compared with high school. High school is mostly pointless drama. People have a lot more angst about their high school years than college. High school simply makes for better drama on television.
With Buffy the Vampire Slayer's 4th season, it was obvious that the college setting wasn't as compelling as when Buffy and her friends were in high school. So by the end of the 5th season, the college setting (and the fact that some of the characters were attending college) was phased out.
Had Veronica Mars gotten a fourth season, creator Rob Thomas proposed flash-forwarding the series 5 years and putting Veronica in the FBI. - aywwts4, on 08/05/2008, -0/+8Indeed, Rory went to college in the start of season four http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0588210/ The show ran for seven seasons. More than half the show was college bound. She graduated and then the show ended. That is sort of the opposite of being canceled due to college.
Uh... Alexis was smoking hot?... Okay okay... I yield my man card. - blazes816, on 08/05/2008, -0/+7It's the same with Buffy. The show didn't end 'soon after', and there were quite a few seasons post-college.
- inactive, on 08/05/2008, -0/+6When Boy Meets World crew went to College the show got even better imo. This list is such BS! Like everyone else said Buffy went to college in season 4 and lasted till season 7. Gilmore girls Roy entered Yale in season 4 and it also lasted till season 7.
- ZombieSociety, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5They were all burnouts, that's what burnouts DO. If they all magically grew up and did something with themselves, that would have turned the show into every single teenage sitcom ever.
It also didn't help that Topher Grace quit and left the show without a main character. - Bebel, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5Im glad The Simpsons never went to college. Or even high school for that matter.
- yuutokun, on 08/05/2008, -0/+5Does that list include the guys too muchacho?
- inactive, on 08/04/2008, -0/+5ahaha yup.
- laughandsing, on 08/05/2008, -0/+4Boy Meets World was good until the very end...sure things were silly but thats how the show always was..
- xaeon, on 08/06/2008, -0/+4Granted, season 4 of BtVS was the weakest. The whole initiative thing never really worked for me. But 5, 6 and 7 were absolutely amazing.
- allisonaxe, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Buried for putting buffy in the list, and the description: the show went for 4 more years after they graduated high-school, and only half of one of those seasons really dealt with college life, as she had too many responsibilities and had to drop out.
- dn11, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3i don't think that qualifies as killing anything since it was on the air for 6 years and both the original and spin off continued to be popular.
- NeoCortex, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3It was still loads better than Saved by the Bell: The New Class
- hlynch1, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3I married a moose, we don't need counseling.
- Vagari, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3No it shouldn't... Almost none of those are spinoffs.
- seraph582, on 08/05/2008, -0/+3Quite the opposite of real life, eh?
- Rudegar, on 08/05/2008, -1/+4no A different world?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Different_World_(TV ... - giskard88, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2they really should have ended it there. the whole show was ruined for me when they continued it without him.
- ZiggityZhang, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Undeclared wasn't too bad, but then again it started in college.
- mascot4hire, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2but it was no freaks and geeks.
- sugarazor, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it's especially stupid when Buffy had its best season (five) during the "college years."
- evanfrey, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2horrible, boring article
- h0ser, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2those are all shows towards women!
make a college show for men and you'll get more of an audience. I'm talking about the old shcool style of college, or Van Wilder, not the tame gilmore girls or dawsons creek style. - everythingiknow, on 08/05/2008, -2/+4Should be called "Top 10 TV Shows that Had College Spinoffs".
Buffy, as mentioned above went on for 4 more seasons and some of the best storylines are after high school. - inactive, on 08/05/2008, -1/+3I _loved_ Sabrina the Teenage Witch during the high school years. It was full of bad puns and it was just plain fun to watch. After she went to college, it just wasn't as much fun.
- elitistmusician, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2Undeclared was a phenomenal college show. Apatow rules.
- dn11, on 08/05/2008, -0/+2A Different World?... I was on for 6 years anyway.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXaz7cLkWtw&feature ... - darkever, on 08/12/2008, -0/+1I almost agree, 6 was the weakest. ;)
- kasatie48, on 08/06/2008, -0/+1i agree. plus, seasons 6 and 7 didn't even have buffy in college at all.
- doubl3d, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1These shows make my head hurt watching them now, so cheesy.
- anthonyretro, on 08/05/2008, -0/+1Not to mention, that's when everyone was significantly more comfortable with their characters. It acted as a stronger comedy in the college years because the cast was willing to take more chances in their performances.
