- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -5/+33Gossip Girl? The *****....?
- nuteredardvark, on 01/23/2009, -1/+24Where is Top Gear??
- damack, on 01/22/2009, -4/+22Nice to see Big Bang Theory getting some love that show is awesome.
Bittorrent is a good source for one you don't have to set any reminders or recorders and you can download it anytime anyplace.
Not to mention us guys in other nations don't get all the TV goodness you guys are exposed to in best case scenarios for days or weeks and worse case scenarios weeks, months or never.
I can't help but think how much these people would make if they made an episode of a TV series available after or the same time as the broadcast on iTunes or something. - souldawg, on 01/22/2009, -0/+18I hold my hand up to three of those on the list. I also find torrenting great for exploring what's on across the globe.
- cJw314, on 01/22/2009, -0/+14Do these shows get credit for all of us "watching" them this way? I always wondered if we weren't killing our favorite shows by... NOT "watching" them. O.o
- Llanowar, on 01/23/2009, -0/+11It's probably moms all accross the world.
"son, you can do that download thingy on your computer right? Can you download some Desperate Housewives for me?" - BinaryDelt, on 01/23/2009, -0/+11Dugg for 24. Top pirated show and it still gets good ratings. I do wish its ratings were a little higher though...
- machocheese34, on 01/23/2009, -0/+8top gear hasn't been on for a while
- TeraRealm256, on 01/23/2009, -2/+10ummm....I don't believe that downloading TV Shows via bittorrent is pirating....they were on tv just the night before....how is this pirating? I could have recorded the damn thing!
- OPR8R, on 01/22/2009, -0/+7Without cable/satellite, would you watch them anyway? Or would you be compelled to get cable/satellite because of these shows?
Probably not... - dvsbastard, on 01/23/2009, -0/+7Going for a piss during ad breaks IS STEALING!
- elfuego, on 01/23/2009, -0/+6I question the usefulness of a list like this when there's a lot of popular shows not airing last week. Lost, Chuck, and Heroes are just three that leap to mind.
Let's see what the list looks like during February sweeps when all the big hitters are airing new episodes. - ditka354, on 01/23/2009, -1/+7I love in Prison Break, how Lincoln Burrows can get a guy to drop his gun by threatening to punch him.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+6Hell in India i cant even have shows like Californication and Entourage (unless heavily censored) because of stupid telecast laws. thank the gods for Torrent.
Also Frack me. Why is BSG only 4th? - Kidddrunkadelic, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5Battlestar Galactica only at #4??
- anubis2night, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4Cool shows, the networks should really take note of these trends, then offer them online as options. I just noticed 24 is now on Hulu, though they only do like 4 shows then they scrub it. At this point it's the networks fault for not providing more avenues for their shows to be viewed. If I was a sponsor for these shows I'd be more pissed that the networks fail so badly at proper marketing of their content, than being pissed at torrents. This at least shows that the content is viable. It's the distribution that sucks.
- Emachine, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4It's not currently airing. If it was, I'm sure it would be in the top 10.
Because it's the best show .................................... in the world. - Treshnell, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4They do that with South Park. It's awesome, you can just go to their website and watch any episode you want whenever you want. Would be nice if other shows did that, too.
- anubis2night, on 01/23/2009, -0/+4Leave the commercials in there and I think you have a point.
- schrutefan, on 01/23/2009, -1/+5Guys download the shows they're too ashamed to watch out in the open.
- joegibes, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Obviously there are many housewives desperate to download tv shows.
- stufflebean, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3It hasn't aired since December, but I'm a bit wary of this list:
http://torrentfreak.com/top-10-most-pirated-tv-sho ...
That accumulates all of 2008 and Top Gear is nowhere to be found. Either they tacitly restricted it to American shows or something fishy is going on (IMHO). - MagicBobert, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4Has been canceled! (at the end of this season)
- SpectreFire, on 01/23/2009, -1/+4RIP Atlantis.
- TeraRealm256, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3ummm....I don't believe that downloading TV Shows via bittorrent is pirating....they were on tv just the night before....how is this pirating? I could have recorded the damn thing!
- SpectreFire, on 01/23/2009, -0/+3Only if you have a Nielson box.
I don't believe torrents affect ratings as much as DVRs. - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2I buy their DVD's to support them. Have the Season 1 and 2 of Southpark
A few of BSG and everyone hates chris. - themastersb, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3Most TV shows can be found online for free without pirating them. I guess it's only called pirating when you don't watch it on the website they want you to?
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -1/+3Goes to show that even the pirates don't have taste.
- Super6, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Folks need to discover NCIS, it has some action like 24 except it's witty, too
- crowbar77, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Second that, I can't imagine a world without top gear.
- TeraRealm256, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2ummm...I don't have to pay for over the air channels do I? So I'm getting it free regardless...
- Revyloution, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Genrre, your completely correct. According to our current laws, torrenting TV shows is piracy.
The more complicated question is, why is it so commonplace. Its hard to find another law with the rampant disregard that intellectual property rights have.
Just because something is illegal, doesn't mean that the law is just. I think that there is a good bit of civil disobedience involved in the internet piracy movement. Things are shaking up right now, and many producers are looking into alternative revenue streams. The traditional models for making money on music and video recordings are falling away. I have little doubt that our current intellectual property laws will be considered archaic in the near future.
Plus, I just love to watch TV shows commercial free, anytime I want. - smeger, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2NCiS is alot better than CSI, It is really good, Try it out, it is just a download away, and it would be nice to get the seeds up on the seasons i am trying to DL
- JD52, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Actually it isn't pirating it is time-shifting. No different than recording it to a TIVO.
- rnawky, on 01/23/2009, -2/+41) Go to ThePirateBay
2) Browse Video Torrents
3) Sort By Seeds (Descending)
4) ??????
5) PROFIT! - stack3r, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2genrre " but you didn't, And in torrenting you helped other people who may not have been able to record the "damn thing." blah blah blah I'm talking crap to feel morally superior because i consider it stealing blah blah blah.
Fact is, if they go free to air, THEY ARE FREE ANYWAY, How do you steal something that was free? Oh... is that a problem with this law? Next thing you'll say is "oh but the advertisements" .. yeah right, there is studies showing that when adverts come on most people either turn off the sound or flick to another channel not showing adverts, adverts dont work anymore, people dont want them.
Sick of anti-piracy idiots, shut ya traps and help force greedy media giants to accept their market value drop and move onto new technologies. Because thats all it is, idiots in suits who dont want their over inflated value go down when it just has to. No one wants to pay for Albums any more the value isnt there, EVERYONE is sick of advertising interrupting their programs, the list goes on... Digg me down all you want, but you know its ***** true. The world is changing AGAINST capitalism, suck it up *****. - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Battle Star Galactica can thank part of it's success to the 'net. When it first started millions of people watched it through the torrents and by the time it hit the airwaves a huge buzz was in the air. If your show sucks, torrents wont help, if your show is awesome, torrents can bring you the attention you need.
- Ugoff, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2Go House MD :)
- Mossman85, on 01/23/2009, -2/+4Hate to break this to you, but that show is actually pretty damn good. Give it a shot.
- inactive, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Commercials are outdated, product placement within the show is where the money is these days.
- dragon76, on 01/23/2009, -0/+2If I could watch Gossip Girl online, I would. I watch most of my TV shows on Hulu and by extension I don't really watch any shows that aren't on Hulu but I got tired of everyone talking about Gossip Girl on the internet and at work so I got the first season on DVD from Netflix and got hooked.
I would not pirate the show if I could watch it online, even with commercials. I don't have a DVR and I do not want to have to make an appointment to do something as silly as entertain myself. - nshady, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Just wait for this week's numbers. 60,000 seeds on Lost torrents.
- moothemagiccow, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1That's a pretty pathetic list. 9/10 are broadcast TV, all are American series. The networks should be proud, I guess, but there are so many better shows out there.
- allocate, on 01/25/2009, -0/+1@Chewie67 et al,
I'm not saying that I agree with the logic, but here's the logic as it's generally argued:
Because there's no tangible good concerned, the ONLY right that you get in intellectual property is the right to exclude others from using it and control exactly how it's used (this is common to archaic property principals as well). If you take away an author/owner's ability control the flow of their IP, you're essentially removing their only interest in the IP.
So even though they may be profiting, it's their right as IP holders to be able to control the medium through which their IP is transmitted / displayed. - Dwebtron, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1COPY AND PASTE FTW!!!
- DamnLogins, on 01/23/2009, -0/+1Hahaha! That's funny because if you ignore 50% of the population and the tastes they have, which might be different to yours, it makes sense to ridicule it.
Well done sir!
I'm assuming you are male here :) - inactive, on 01/23/2009, -1/+2Only shows worth watching, let alone torrenting:
- Always Sunny
- Seinfeld
- Curb Your Enthusiasm
- Arrested Development -
