Time Warner is NO better. ***** them both. - STBAT25, on 12/31/2008, -2/+112There's going to be a lot of pissed off people at midnight. 3...2...1...HAPPY *static*
- maestroh, on 12/31/2008, -3/+92YES! MTV off the air! Oh my god this is the best news ever. MTV has been a cancer on society for far too long.
- agarc, on 12/31/2008, -5/+92Big media wins. Consumers lose.
- 4NDr01D, on 12/31/2008, -0/+84CABLE A LA CARTE !!!
why can't I pay for channels I want
and disable the freaking QVC and Lifetime Networks !! - Anth, on 12/31/2008, -7/+81Why dont people stand behind their cable company on issues like this. You keep wondering why your cable bill goes up 10% per year? Its because douchebag media companies write fat yearly increases into their contracts with cable companies. They hold the knife to the throat of the cable company - do what we say or we'll cut access to the channels and your subscribers will switch to satellite!
For once I'd like to see a cable company stand up to these bullies. Cut the channels and my cable bill.
But no, instead you fat ***** are all CONSUME CONSUME CONSUME and don't care about the price you just want your TV. - sevenslashfour, on 12/31/2008, -2/+75To make things clear, Viacom really seems to be the one to blame here, at least more so than Time Warner. They're the ones demanding more money or else they'll pull their channels from TWC, which kind of leaves them at a disadvantage. Lose channels, lose customers. Raise bill to keep said threatened channels, lose respect. It's a little unfair, especially considering the propaganda commercials they're airing on these channels now, saying TWC is the one pulling these channels, when it is in fact all them.
***** Viacom.
Let's get this on the front page. - augustojr, on 12/31/2008, -7/+70Television Networks Owned: Comedy Central, Logo, BET, Spike, TV Land, Nick at Nite, Nickelodeon, Noggin, The N, Nick Jr., TEENick, MTV, VH1, MTV2, CMT, Palladia
- hokie47, on 12/31/2008, -1/+61Wow I am really glad I have FIOS. On a side note they can keep MTV.
- Jupichan, on 12/31/2008, -3/+58Wow. This really sucks.
I saw this in a comment on the article's page, and I think it's a good point.
"Will the subscriber's monthly bill drop if they do in fact lose all those channels?" (Not taken verbatim, obviously, but it's the general point.)
Apparently, Time Warner couldn't even give them a straight answer. Lovely, ain't it?
If I were a subscriber and I lost those channels without my monthly payment being lowered, I would be livid.
This could result in a lot of people dropping Time Warner. After all I've heard about it, it might end up being a good thing for those people in the long run.
- DaHuuuuuudge, on 12/31/2008, -5/+48I'm going to be a pissed off customer. A VERY pissed off customer. I was just flipping through channels and saw the alert on Comedy Central, and started Googling. At first I didn't even believe it. Losing 19 channels over less 25 cents per month? Seriously, if we don't have Comedy Central or TV Land what are we paying for, Lifetime? What about my Daily Show? :(
This is just so ridiculous. - kiiwii, on 12/31/2008, -2/+43Comedy Central I'm annoyed about.
The rest? Not so much... no kids yet, so the Nickelodeon channels don't affect me.
MTV / VH1 / etc? Good riddance! - smmakira, on 12/31/2008, -6/+46Live without Stewart and Colbert??? I think not. I will cancel sir!
- Bloodwine, on 12/31/2008, -2/+39Most of the above comments are hate directed at TWC, but only a couple directed at Viacom. It looks more like Viacom is to blame than TWC.
It's easy to hate your cable provider, because they aren't exactly angels, but that doesn't make them always in the wrong.
If I were TWC, I'd just sign the contract and put giant colorful flyers in with their bills clearly outlining that Viacom is to blame for their cable bill hikes. - Drywall420, on 12/31/2008, -1/+38Don't call the cable companies, call Viacom 1-212-258-6000 and tell them not to make up in failing ratings by making cable subscribers pay more!
- ghdave, on 12/31/2008, -2/+33You gave your personal information to YouTube?
- Drywall420, on 12/31/2008, -2/+27Don't call the cable companies, call Viacom 1-212-258-6000 and tell them not to make up in failing ratings by making cable subscribers pay more!

http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertreport/episode ... - inactive, on 12/31/2008, -3/+26According to Time Warner's logic, we should be able to call and demand a fee DECREASE if these 18 channels are terminated on their service.
- norman619, on 12/31/2008, -4/+27Are you willing to pay a general rate increase for those channels? You DO realize that what's most likely happening is that TWC is trying to keep from raising thier rates again and Viacom is trying to ask for more than what is reasonable in this economic climate. I work for Cablevision here in NYC and we had to raise our rates yet again for this very reason.
- samfishercell, on 12/31/2008, -0/+22Maybe they can renew a channel that actually plays music videos. That'd be neat.
- ibeetle, on 12/31/2008, -3/+22And go where? To Satellite? With its vastly superior picture quality and cheaper rates.
I think not. You will stay with Cable and you will like it. - jakatak, on 12/31/2008, -1/+20I agree. MTV sucks. Back in the old days they played videos around the clock. Now it's all garbage.
- irvin666, on 12/31/2008, -0/+18Why is he being dugged down? I don't mind a comment of which channels are affected(or is it effected?).
- augustojr, on 12/31/2008, -1/+19Wish I had a choice
- norman619, on 12/31/2008, -1/+18Finally someone who's paying attention. I Digg you sir!
- Dustin81783, on 12/31/2008, -1/+17I'm close to canceling my cable anyway, I just don't watch it anymore. Instead of paying nearly $70 a month to sit and click through garbage, I can just download all of my favorite shows.
Plus, Boxee is looking very nice. I just got the beta recently, it's great. - meruru, on 12/31/2008, -0/+16You leave The Weather Channel alone!
- sevenslashfour, on 12/31/2008, -0/+14Meh, nearly all companies are ***** like this. I'm not so much defending Time Warner as I am calling out Viacom on their ***** claims. I'm not kidding, they really are going around saying TWC is pulling their channels, prompting their viewers to "call and complain," even though they're the ones causing it all.
They're holding Time Warner, and their viewers, at gunpoint. Figuratively. - nesagwa, on 12/31/2008, -6/+19My god, a luxury service is about "MONEY"
Someone call the police, someone cant watch reruns of MASH in their free time! - kkato124, on 12/31/2008, -5/+18when i called i got a "we are experiencing technical difficulties" message. just ends the call and tells me to call again later.
- NyteStarNyne, on 12/31/2008, -2/+15I for one welcome the slow death of Time Warner. I hope this sparks a stronger movement for the government to allow more than one cable service in any given area.
- no2gates, on 12/31/2008, -0/+13I just saw an ad in my local paper about this. You bastards made Dora the Explorer cry. Are you happy now?
- posergeek, on 12/31/2008, -0/+13NO NICKELODEON!!!!!!! You mean I will have to interact with my child instead of putting her in front of the babysit... I mean TV?!?!?
- norman619, on 12/31/2008, -3/+15singularityv:
Nice. Way to think of only yourself. Not everyone can afford another rate hike. I speak to our customer service reps all the time and the rate hike we had to impose due to this very same thing is putting a hurting on our subscribers who are not as well off as you are. If we were allowed to let our subscribers pay for the channels they actually watched and ONLY those most of the channels we carry now would go away and free up bandwidth for more interactive services and HD programming. Thing is we are forced to offer channels in these ridiculous packages. You want scifi channel? Cool. you also have to pay for a ***** load of channels you will never watch. You want the Science Channel? Cool. You will also have to pay for children's channels. You say you don't have kids? Oh well... Free market principles should be applied to cable TV channels but as long as the media giants can force us to package crap channels with he ones people actually want to watch you will continue to be ripped off.
Don't even get me started on the misleading pricing of our phone service. - norman619, on 12/31/2008, -1/+13More like tell them you wouldn't mind a rate increase.
Just telling them you don't want to lose those channels is pointless since you would only be telling them what they already know. remember the people who work there most likely have TWC service as well and will be affected like everyone else. - cakes4905, on 12/31/2008, -14/+26This is just ridiculous.. A person can't even enjoy watching what they want to watch.. All of these channels are channels millions of people watch including our little ones..
Everything is about "MONEY" It is disgusting how we are all suffering in the outside world and now we cant even enjoy drifting off into our own world by watching shows we love..
Tv is not life.. but it is great when you want to escape reality and just to be entertained.. I think I will cancel service if this happens.. It's also intersting, how they don't advertise this on tv until the night before..
Anyone who doesnt want this to happen.. should call time warner and really complain.. Their service really sucks already, but this will just make it so much worse..
I cant wait for verizon fios to be available in my area. - sevenslashfour, on 12/31/2008, -0/+12Ahh, the smell of logic and research in the...er, afternoon. I e-salute you.
- inactive, on 12/31/2008, -2/+14Time to buy DirecTV stock.
- TheShad0w, on 12/31/2008, -0/+11Look, let me clarify this. This happens EVERY couple of years. Channel owners want more money, cable providers want to pay less for more. Whats worse is that they turn the consumers against each other. Its not uncommon for both the cable company and the channel owners to have those banners to get the consumer to call the opposite party to complain. Eventually someone will give in. In all honesty Viacom won't let the contract terminate for too long because they will loose entire markets (There aren't alternatives in a lot of places where Time Warner is) and Time Warner won't let the channels go because of the fear of loosing a percentage of their customers.
- SolubleFish, on 12/31/2008, -1/+12Not to be a dick, but it is a business. Their ultimate goal is to turn a profit.
How far they want to take it, and how unethical they can be is another topic. - Zachari, on 12/31/2008, -1/+11They did this on Dish Network a few years back. It was terrible. I stopped watching for months.
- sevenslashfour, on 12/31/2008, -1/+11Wise words. That's exactly what's going on here.
- mnemy, on 12/31/2008, -1/+11Only ones I care about are Comedy Central and Spike (only for MMA).
I don't see how Viacom could survive without one of the largest cable providers tho. Sounds like an empty threat. - Twisted871, on 12/31/2008, -2/+12I'm a satellite subscriber and I approve this message.
- Rikkochet, on 12/31/2008, -1/+10No, consumers wins. My god, do they ever win.
With those amazing, quality channels off the air, TV monkeys might be forced to watch something horrific lie Discovery or PBS or History or even (I shudder to think it) TURN OFF THE TV.
Given the stratospheric levels of ignorance these days, I think a little less Ashton Kutcher and a little more real world can only be a good thing. - popnwave, on 12/31/2008, -2/+11Sweet maybe more kids will go outside!
- andrewlotta, on 12/31/2008, -0/+9I'm not afraid to admit it:
I like Golden Girls. - SillyRabbits, on 12/31/2008, -0/+8Amen, I think 5-6 channels would cover about 98% of my viewing needs. The other 200+ channels I never even touch.
