NO. - mrn111, on 11/17/2008, -0/+49It was the first time in my life (I was 5) that I understood what selling out meant.
- robdiggity, on 11/16/2008, -1/+37***** you for saying this. You need to see it.
Sure, the original cast is there, so how could it be bad? And Harvey Korman is not so bad, and can be overlooked, right? But Art Carney? Bea Arthur? Dear god she sings. Jefferson Starship?
Carrie Fisher is clearly tripping balls the whole time, and for some reason she sings too.
Chewbacca has a ***** dad named Itchy, and a ***** son named Lumpy. I ***** you not. Lumpy.
These are things a man can't unsee.
I think I have to go watch it again. - trotskyist, on 11/17/2008, -0/+33Damn.
The Jonestown suicides and the Star Wars Holiday Special, all within the same week.
Times were tough in November 1978. - airencracken, on 11/17/2008, -2/+34Alderaan. Not Alderon.
Sigh. - publiclurker, on 11/16/2008, -0/+29I have a copy of this train wreck that I watch every year when we decorate the tree. It is much worse then Jar Jar.
- inactive, on 11/16/2008, -5/+31That isn't a Christmas Special....It's a Space Station!~
- inferno10, on 11/17/2008, -0/+25Here's a sampling of the holiday special awesomeness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asnVcbWQ2cg
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 11/17/2008, -0/+22The Star Wars Holiday Special aired on November 17, 1978. On November 18, 909 people committed mass suicide. That can't be mere coincidence...

You're welcome. Kind of. - inactive, on 11/16/2008, -0/+20...prequel to the prequels?
- DiggerDoombot, on 11/17/2008, -0/+20Friday, November 17, 1978 - The Star Wars Holiday Special airs.
Saturday, November 18, 1978 - Mass Suicides in Jonestown.
Brrrrr - AmyVernon, on 11/16/2008, -1/+21What has been seen cannot be unseen.
- dithyrambica, on 11/17/2008, -2/+20This Christmas special is best viewed with Rifftrax.
Actually should only be viewed with such. Otherwise it is indeed quite painful.
http://www.rifftrax.com/rifftrax/star-wars-holiday ... - clintmaher, on 04/21/2009, -1/+16Jar Jar did some major credibility damage. At least when they do the prequel (it's coming) he won't be in it.
- jamangold, on 11/17/2008, -0/+15George Lucas vowed to hunt down every bootleg copy of this show and burn it himself. Strangely enough, the influence of TSWHS was seen in Episode III. Check out the design of the Wookie's treehouses on Kashyyyk in Ep. III; they are very similar to the shots from TSWHS.
I happened to see TSWHS live back in the 70's. I also made my parents watch Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Opera and The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. They must of loved me very much to sit through that dreck. - jerrasis, on 11/17/2008, -0/+13The sets are so crappy, it's like they made them by hand, solo.

Got it wrong is what he did there. "That's no Christmas Special..."
Also, the author misspelled Alderaan.
Nerd cred. I haz it. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12Clearly, Carrie Fisher was still eating a lot of LSD back then. She most have been sharing it with the cast and producers too.
- gl77, on 11/17/2008, -1/+12Simpsons comic store guy? is that you?
- Vorphlack, on 11/17/2008, -0/+11I was nine and I remember saying "this ***** sucks". My Mom said "Fine then we'll turn it off" and she did - my little brother was pissed at me for weeks.
- VaporBro, on 11/17/2008, -0/+9I think the first thing you realize, in regards to how much the movie sucks, is the first 10 minutes of dialogue happens. Wookie dialogue. A family of wookies. Grunting. 10 minutes. Boourns.
And I had NO idea that Rifftracks riffed the Special. Post-MST3k crew ftw. - Morghin, on 11/17/2008, -2/+11...wookiees do not speak. They make noises "that sound like fat people having orgasms."
Epic. - yanked, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8For once a youtube commenter has got us all beat:
"Still better than The Phantom Menace."
Too true. Every second of dialogue replaced with Wookiee howls would have been an improvement. - TwinTurboMike, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3239096107 ...
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -2/+10AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH......... I remember that atrocity! The part where the Stormtroopers broke all the little Chewbakka boy's toys made me cry. Still brings back horrible memories.
- Khast, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7Heck...even this was better than "TSWHS"

- rolf, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7It's not my thing either but just recognize that it's a groundbreaking film that signaled a new accepted style in that genre. Like Alien(s) or the original Matrix and a few other films.
You don't have to like that specific story, just notice that it's probably the ancestor to many things that evolved since then today, perhaps of a few stories you do like better. - cubicledrone, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6Face it. Bea Arthur is just too much woman for you.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+7Which button calls your Mom to pick you up?
- Lunarsight, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6I think they should do a sequel to the prequel instead. That would be so uber-cool.
- dpop416, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6good god itchy is ugly! i feel the only way to try to get through the whole thing would be with copious amounts of alcohol.
- RobotKeaton, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6@jerrasis.
We can watch it at publiclurker's house every year while he decorates the tree. I doubt he'll mind. - asgardshill, on 11/17/2008, -0/+6http://digg.com/movies/Torrent_of_the_infamous_Sta ...

- GorfTron, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4I saw it when I was a kid and LOVED IT. They had me at the cartoon.
- ASSASSYN360, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Speaking of Star Wars. Where the hell is my live action series I have been dying to see.
- maus56, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4If it had Ewoks it would have been perfect.
- monkeyhoward, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4.....wookiees do not speak. They make noises "that sound like fat people having orgasms."
LO ***** L
This sentience is quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever read.
30 years later, TSWHS redeems itself by providing the vehicle by which I was able to read this statement. - datagod, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3For starters, Vilanch pointed out, wookiees do not speak. They make noises "that sound like fat people having orgasms."
Oh yeah! - sexybobo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3As bad as that pun may sound it was actually in the movie for you lucky people out there who haven't seen it.
- gl77, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3very good point. for some reason i want to thank you for your reply. i will just +1
- DeathRay2K, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3A million points to the first person to post a link to the entire holiday special.
Half that to whoever posts the Conan O'Brien interview with Harrison Ford. - vango, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3some things might be better unsaid And unseen
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Dugg for Mike Nelson!
