- Dysarthria, on 01/06/2008, -5/+103Who cares? I've been boycotting them for years.
- bossm4n, on 01/06/2008, -3/+89One can only hope they will boycott the Oscars, Tony's, Emmy's, TV Guide's, People's Choice, Teen Choice, MTV's, BET's, Espies and whatever the hell other stupid ass award show they come up with to pat themselves on the back.
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -1/+82I'll take one of those $5000 gift bags then, if nobody wants one...
- Hitpoint, on 01/06/2008, -2/+39Looks like the paparazzi will have a night off, no one wants to see pale producers and sound guys.
- SemiSarcastic, on 01/06/2008, -2/+35"The Screen Actors Guild officially announced on Friday that none of its members would appear at the Golden Globes. No actors, no clips, and no banter? What’s the point? What are they going to do, bring a bunch of reality stars to parade about in faux couture?"
Sure, why not? Its not like the world is coming to an end. I've got books and I've got video games, I'll survive. - sweetblondie, on 01/06/2008, -5/+37Just have all the reality tv stars attend, maybe Bonaduce and Fairplay can present an award....
- Qyasogk, on 01/06/2008, -13/+44Maybe the producers will start realizing they aren't ***** without their writers.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -7/+35Perhaps they'll realize there are PLENTY of non-union writers who'll work.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -12/+39Both sides are now losing, and looking bad. But the WGA is starting to get some bad press. It is un-*****-believeable that they think that because they are on strike that EVERYBODY associated with the industry should also stop. Calling people scabs for going on Leno or Conan is absurd. It is like calling someone a scab for taking cab when the buses and subway drivers are on strike. Typical of greedy unions though.
I couldn't care less about Mike Huckabee, but to say that he should not get our vote becuase he want on Leno was the last straw for me. The WGA is ridiculous. And notice that they have never said what their "fair" demands ARE. For all we know they have demanded such a high percentage of residuals that there was no way the studios could say yes. We simply don't know. - exomni, on 01/06/2008, -4/+26I, for one, couldn't care less.
- mlerner, on 01/06/2008, -5/+27Anyone actually care about the Golden Globes?
- krisper, on 01/06/2008, -15/+36Goodfor the SAG. I'll happily watch reruns ( or just Youtube) for as long as it takes for the writers to get a fair contract.
- Meatetarian, on 01/06/2008, -3/+23By following the rules of the Film Actor's Guild, the world can become a better place that handles dangerous people with talk and reasoning; that is the F.A.G. way. One day you'll all look at the world us actors created and say, "Wow, good going, F.A.G. You really made the world a better place, didntcha, F.A.G.?"
- Chompy, on 01/06/2008, -6/+22Stupid studios and their stupid evil.
- xtc46, on 01/06/2008, -0/+14the people who arent good enough for the oscars
- joshuaer, on 01/06/2008, -7/+21I love how every one sticks up for the writers then goes to a torrent site and steals the tv shows and movies they work on!
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -5/+18Who cares? Most *stars* have such inflated egos it's on the edge of ridiculous anyway. All these award shows amount to is a bunch of overpaid snots flaunting their designer cloths and jewels to all the working class. They always try to get a few political opinions in on their speeches also, because memorizing the lines to the wizard of oz automatically gives them a degree in political science. I enjoy a good movie or sitcom as much as anybody but there aren't very many good ones being made anyway. Most revolve around sex, homosexuality and drug abuse. In this day and age, the actors and actresses could be replaced by digitally produced images and they could go back to waiting tables or whatever skills they had before becoming *stars*. OK, I'm overreacting, but it's just a pet peeve. They make millions while so many hardworking people can't even afford health care.
- xtc46, on 01/06/2008, -0/+12they stopped giving out such awesome bags when they started getting taxed as income :( they used to be 20 - 50k in some of the bags.
- dsmx, on 01/06/2008, -2/+13isn't that the Film Actors Guild?
- nynety, on 01/06/2008, -1/+10I believe Jerry Seinfeld quite accurately summed up the purpose of such award shows in this clip:

(Don't worry, it's not a rick-roll) - sindex, on 01/06/2008, -1/+9sounds like another night of video games for me.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 01/06/2008, -1/+9This whole writers thing and the shows not being on is getting old very quickly.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -3/+11Meanwhile all those other people involved with the business, the carpenters, electricians, caterers, script girls, etc, etc continue to suffer.
Nice of the union to be thinking of everyone involved. - ecidnac, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8Hard to feel like it's stealing when most of the shows I download are broadcast for free over the airwaves. I pay for all of the major premium channels, as well. I can tell ya... I don't feel a whole hella lotta guilty over it...
True, I'm skipping the commercials, but the rest of the time, I timeshift with my DVR anyway, and that's somehow legitimate.
And yeah, your comment has nothing to do with bossm4n's. STFU. - freudianslipper, on 01/06/2008, -2/+9Which is why a lot of the supporting talent, like Jon Stewart, are paying the wages of their staff during the strike.
I don't think you quite understand why there is a strike. It's the studios that we should be angry with for not making such a simple and realistic deal a reality. For example, when a studio airs a complete episode online with advertisements yet doesn't pay their writing staff because the current contracts state that anything on the web is for promo use only, I think that's wrong. Our how about the show "The Office" which did something like 10 webisodes in which there was no compensation. I won't go on, but I do think you could be more informed. - superdigg, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7I agree! Except, not with ***** bands.
- qwertydvorak, on 01/06/2008, -0/+7better than reality tv stars, why not do like the whole fake steve jobs thing ? why not have celebrity look alikes come up and ham it up. i might be willing to view it if they get up there and kind of make a mockery of the whole ***** process.
- drafhk, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8Fag.
- bossm4n, on 01/06/2008, -2/+8And what exactly does that have to do with my comment you looney bastard? I'm just saying I hate the awards shows and you bring up pirates.
- toddhenkel, on 01/06/2008, -0/+6Actually it would be best if these fricken useless award shows never come back. Who cares about some award? Just put something on the air or the screen that is worth watching. I vote with my dollars.
- ZenMojo, on 01/06/2008, -3/+9You guess. Do you know anything about the strike at all? Anyway, SAG is out marching with the writers to show solidarity against the producers, aka, the source of all evil in Hollywood.
- crossmr, on 01/06/2008, -2/+7I see the people who choose not to use the reply button much like a Fox news anchor. They think their opinion is so damn important it should be every where and everyone should listen to it.
I was going to call you a cat torturer, but went for something a little more harsh. - PhairOh, on 01/06/2008, -1/+6Don't forget the AVN Awards!
- IgnatzMouse, on 01/06/2008, -1/+6WHO CARES?? Does anybody really give a ***** about the Golden Globes? They're given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. (a group of around 70 people who cover Hollywood for the rest of the world.) Do 70 people really have that much sway within the industry???
- bagboyrebel, on 01/06/2008, -1/+6I like turtles
- freebot, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5I normally shun award shows these days, but this appears to either have wonderful ad-lib potential or doom written all over it. Either way, both make for a fun time to watch it a little bit and laugh at the network and organizors.
- Godel, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4How about a link to the "official announcement" and not some crappy blog.
- Kardall, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4I think i'm going to watch it, just to see wtf happens.
What i'd like to see, is a bunch of music artists present their favorite shows. Like, pick Korn and Slipknot to go on stage, and say "We Liked Sex in the City." and Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse to come up with "We Liked Stargate Atlantis." and those would be the winners. It could be over in a matter of minutes, rather than 2+ hours :D - xtc46, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4I doubt it's to show solidarity. It's more of a "we should back the writers since if they don't write we can't work anyway, and this way we look good to the public" plus, the more pressure that appears to be on producers to settle, the fast actors can make their money again.
- ajwinder, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4can they just pay the people already? With all the lost profits its pretty clear its gonna take like 15 years for this decision to be worth it financially. And thats assuming that the striking writers arent going to just get what they want in the end anyway.
- Phillyzero, on 01/06/2008, -3/+7The Golden Globes were probably one of the dullest televised awards shows to begin with, but that's not saying much. That being said, hope it ends well for the writers and such.
- bagboyrebel, on 01/06/2008, -3/+7they weren't getting payed for online content.
- joshuaer, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4Audio and Visual Nerds Award?? I have no clue but i like my guess allot.
- blackbeardtron, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4Let me put it to you this way... a decent portion of the writers' wages come from residuals from reruns on TV, correct? Well guess what? Shows like Lost aren't even shown on reruns, but instead are offered as online streaming content, and the writers get NO money for this, while the producers earn a nice piece of advertising profit.
What is fair about that? - Chupathingy, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4I watch WAY too much TV. Sitcoms, Dramas, Reality, Discovery/History/Travel channels. I have a 250 hour TiVo that is packed with movies and TV of every genre, so I say this as someone that invests more time than I should in TV:
If they cancel the ***** shows for this season and next, somebody, writers or studios, will get hungry enough to blink. By then, I will have caught up on all the reading and video games I've been putting off and there will be a whole new crop of ***** shows for me to sink too much time in.
Either way, no worries for me. - toddhenkel, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4That's the way unions are supposed to work. They are supposed to support each other. It's always awkward though when it doesn't involve the stereotypical unions. Imagine the Teamsters honoring the baseball union. Certainly isn't the hardship case when unions formed over a hundred years ago and really hard for middle America to relate to Tinseltown...
- PurpleDingo, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3I always thought the SAG was some BS overgrown fraternity, but they just redeemed themselves.
- enri, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Maybe the crew members should start a union.
- sevenalive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+3Are you kidding me, this is digg, its a requirement when you submit a story, you have to have at least 2 link jumps before you get to the source.
- vikki77, on 01/06/2008, -1/+4Now this is a Golden Globe I would watch!
