- Anand999, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33I will get dugg down for saying it, but I like the US version of the Office much more than the original BBC version. I've tried watching the BBC one on multiple occasions but could never get into it. The US version, though, hooked me instantly.
In any case, I can't believe there is a blog dedicated to show... - FatherG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22I don't think that comparison is accurate anymore. With this move it seems as they're trying to distance the UK Office from the US Office. No longer two sides of the same coin; they've changed the ***** currency.
- nonesupplied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21The merger was discovered the week before.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Was your dad a GI?
the *funniest* thing ever uttered on The Office I have heard! - TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20The characters in this show are so believable that I find myself wanting to write a page long analysis of my own – it feels like I have worked there. Great show.

http://digguser.blogspot.com/2006/10/office-season-1-1.html - otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I'm so sick of people randomly claiming "the BRITISH version is the BEST" having seen only a few episodes of each.
I've seen all of them, entirely. The USA version simply has more substance, character development, and dynamic. The British version was David Brent + coworkers. - elitexero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"Where'd you get that salad?"
"Staples"
ROFL - digidelia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12does knowing the premise beforehand really make it that less entertaining
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11someone needs to get the lazy scranton lyrics
- SergeStormz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Well, I guess he could've posted the title of the episode which was "The Merger." Stupid NBC, giving away things with titles and such.
- thefirstenemy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I actually liked the product placement, it didn't feel tacked on. It seemed like they could've easily just had the exact same thing happen, only this time they used a brand name.
Plus, subtle product promotion adds to the realism I think. I'd rather they drink Coke than some generic brand, as long as they don't go "Hey, this Coke is ***** awesome" and then they hold the bottle up. - Tonyisbad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I thought last week's episode was the best in the series so far, but last nights full 30min episode took the cake, the ice cream, and the balloons. The office is the "comedy" show i look forward to every week.
What Jim does to Dwight has me in tears every episode. My favorite is when Jim slowing added nickels to Dwight's phone to make it weigh heavier each time without being noticeable. Then he removed them all and Dwight hit his head picking up the phone with it. It literally had me in tears!.!.! Or from last week when Jim stole a bunch of Dwight's stationary and sent him "faxes from the future" from himself warning him about possible things.
the show is awesome, they need to win more awards, i haven't been this excited about an NBC comedy in years. Right now NBC is running on all cylinders for all the different genres i like on TV with; Heroes, studio 60, 30 rock, and of course the office. Once they start showing BSG on the network you might as well give all the Nielsen ratings to them cause they have my vote. - Qenton, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Ya, knowing Hamlet dies at the end totally wrecked the play for me.
- BananaGrabber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Why did Andy call his wallpaper a screensaver?
- prophetofham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9what was with the blatant staples commercial in this episode?
I love the show, but there is a time and place to sell stuff. It's the commercials in between the show, not in the show itself. - bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They actually made the product placement very fitting and funny. I wouldn't mind if Staples bought out The Office in the show and they had meetings at Chilis every day. The writers are so good they could make it work, and we'd have less commercials.
- graddatadda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8that was painful to watch. Seriously, I found myself looking away during the "lazy scranton" rap. (funny, but oh-so painful)
- andrew52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8you have to admit, kevin did a great job showing off the shredder
- Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Pam plays free cell. Karen plays COD2. I choose Karen.
- Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What happened to "Oscar"?
- bubba9999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It is conceptually possible to enjoy both, you know...
- kms007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Office is the only TV show I look forward to watching every week. I haven't felt that way about television for YEARS.
- mgainor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Seriously, the first draft of this blog must have been written in crayon.
- shortstack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8i am in love with both series. with the merger they seem to be taking strides to put parts of the british series in the us one.
examples
-jim/tim getting a girlfriend (season 2 of uk office, now in season 3 of us)
-merger! (end of season 1/beginning of season2 in uk, now in season 3)
-getting downsized then not - both series
they keep the main points, but its not supposed to be exact. i honestly find myself laughing more at the american version, but loving the humor more in the british one. - Waterispoison, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Mexrocker
Oscar is on vacation with his boyfriend with the money the company gave him as compensation for Michael outing him at work. It was to prevent him from suing the company. - dandiemer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15That blog is terrible. It's like reading an 11 year old girl's diary about her latest crush.
- andrew52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6also this isn't the first product placement in the office
notice the HP monitors? cisco phones?
michael's tendency to eat at chilis?
in one episode, when michael presented a video about scranton to corporate, he said he edited it on a mac
staples is the first really obvious product placement but there have been tons before it - stukdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The best part aboout the show was the remake of "Lazy Sunday". (changed to "Lazy Scranton." The full video is on the NBC homepage.
http://www.nbc.com/The_Office/
And here's a different recap of the episode.
http://www.lifeintheoffice.com/2006/11/16/the-merger/ - CosmoKramer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6aint to party like a scranton part cuz a scranton party don't stop
- Anand999, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You mean the ones people skip with their Tivos? NBC has to pay the salaries somehow...
- arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Why did Andy call his wallpaper a screensaver?"
Where I work there are people who repeatedly refer to their wallpaper as the screensaver. - selrahc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6If you watched 30 rock after the office they give a plausible explanation for it.
- jeffmon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Best show on television. Period.
- rtbenson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The Office is the best show on TV right now.
- prophetofham, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i don't have a problem with product placement. i guess i was more bugged by how thinly concealed the whole paper shredder add was. it seemed out of place.
- dpierce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3(Michael wants to start a family and have kids)
Yes, it is true…I, Michael Scott am signing up with an online dating service. Thousands of people have done it and I am going to do it. I need a username and…I have a great one. Little Kid Lover. That way people will know exactly where my priorities are at.
That part cracked me up. What's your favorite? - FatherG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Maybe it's just me prophetofham but I would rather have some subtle and fitting product placement inside of a show. It beats going to commercial every 8 minutes breaking whatever momentum they've built up.
Or maybe I've just spoiled myself watching torrents of british tv. Mmm, 45-minute long straight shots of Doctor Who and The IT Crowd. - tenaciousdino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think what separates this from other product placement is that the commercial for THE VERY SAME SHREDDER appears during the next break. Its also a little more brazen, being that Kevin has an aside in which he demonstrates it. It was funny to me at first but when I saw the accompanying commercial later it was cheapened. I'm a big Office fan and I was disappointed by the move.
- SergeStormz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3andrew52, agreed. He was like a little kid in a candy store. I loved when he shredded his own credit card then had a little pause and sigh afterwards.
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know, the writers kinda failed with the whole Jim & Pam thing. What I mean is that they tried to set up that tension that occurs when two people are "right" for each other, but keep missing out by inches. You keep rooting for them to get together, and you keep watching because you keep hoping for it.
When we only had Pam's ex to keep them apart, it worked well, because he was a jerk. So we'd hope that Pam would see the light and Jim & Pam would work out.
But now that Karen is involved, I just don't care about Jim & Pam any more. I mean, if they get together, great. But if they don't, who cares? Karen is nice, funny, has good character, and is pretty too. They made her far too sympathetic. The audience can be content with a Jim & Karen relationship, so the audience no longer tunes in each week wondering "will Jim & Pam get together?"
Frankly, I find this to be excellent, because I hate soap operas. I hate shows that drag out relationships, hoping that fans will sit at the edge of the couch, biting their fingernails with tense curiosity. So instead, I just get on board with Jim & Karen, tension is gone, and I get to enjoy all the other jokes and plotlines. - weaksnyc, on 08/14/2009, -1/+3It's not a spoiler. Everyone knew it was going to happen from the commercials anyway, they weren't exactly hiding it. If you're going to cry over stupid *****, watch the show when it comes on.
- DrBeaverhausen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm finding that I don't care about the love triangle they're starting, but can't wait to see what comes of Jim having the job that Dwight thought he had. And on top of that the new guy who Dwight hates more than Jim seems to have a more important job. Then Micheal keeps kicking him when he's down. If it was a drama Dwight would end up in a tower with a high powered rifle. Over all great TV.
- bugninja, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And in this case, the actors on the show have their own blogs where they give some behind-the-scenes stuff.
- theimacguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@FatherG
Yea, it's like the dollar and the pound. - arizonagroove, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I've not still not seen the US version, but I can make a good guess on why it has more character development than the original British version: It has already run for three times as many episodes.
Seriously, think about it. The British version lasted 12 episodes over two series plus a two part Christmas special. According to tv.com, the US version will hit 38 episodes at the end of this month. The more episodes you have, the more time you have for character development. - Mutal1sk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Office takes off from arrested developement for me :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Office is one of the only shows that has the ability to make me feel genuinely uncomfortable.
- bubba9999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Getting the romantic leads together never works out well in a tv show. Remember when Friends took a nosedive after Ross and Rachel finally got together? And you can't just have them doing the puppy-eyes thing for 5 years. It's a tough nut to crack.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ Jelfish:
That part made me laugh for a good five minutes too. I actually think I went back to watch it again a few minutes later. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Dwight in pain; sadistic, I know. - Hypermarkalan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're right on one level, but if they do this well it will only heighten tension. I thought the same thing when they introduced Tim's new girlfriend in the UK version. They ended up keeping her sympathetic and likable, so much so that I actually felt sorry for her, while also maintaining the tension between Tim and Dawn.
It can be done. -
