    The latest you can open to qualify for "3 day opening" is midnight on thursday.

    And despite the opening day, films are often still reported with their "3 day" opening total to compare against other films. It's very unusual for more than one film to open earlier than Friday in the same week, mostly because the kinds of movies that open early know better than to go head-to-head with each other.

  • SirBruce, on 07/14/2009, -3/+1Yes, it does, though technically it's just after midnight, on Thursday. Many movies do this in recent years in order to "cheat" the box office numbers. Mind you it doesn't matter, because unless you use inflation adjusted numbers, weekend box office almost always goes up over time regardless of film popularity.
