- cyclone13, on 07/16/2008, -3/+40I would have to say that John Oliver has been the best addition to the Daily show since Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell left.
- danharlow, on 07/17/2008, -3/+23And now where did all those Diggers go who were complaining about this New Yorker cover? Oh, that's right ... they went back to ***** Off Land to live under rocks after watching this skit.
- JeremyGrieves, on 07/16/2008, -1/+18You should see his stand-up video from comedy central, everything he says hits the nail on the head in my book.
"Terrorists hate our freedom so George Bush has been systematically removing those freedoms thereby giving them less to hate" (may not be word for word) - KraftDinner101, on 07/17/2008, -0/+16Don't you mean "You've over-estimated the public"?
- nanajeebus, on 07/17/2008, -10/+21That's your fault for not living in America.
GO AMERICA RAH RAH RAH - welestgw, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9America, ***** Yeah!
- polalion, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9So this man walks into a bar with a piece of dog turd in his hand, and he says "Obama is a radical Muslim!"
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9because your the last person still using it
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html - Dozernotz, on 07/17/2008, -0/+8Don't you talk ***** about ***** Off Land. We may live under rocks but it keeps our backs strong. ***** OFF LAND ***** YEAH!
- SRSco, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9Don't forget this, (which got buried into oblivion by Obama freaks).
http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008/07/16/jon-stew ...
Uh oh, what will all the Obama fans who ***** a brick do when they see Jon Stewart blow it off? You know, because Digg worships Obama AND Stewart/Colbert?
Stewarts comments were SO on the money. Who gives a ***** over a stupid cartoon. The New Yorker has balls. Nobody with a BRAIN would realize they mean it. It's satire. It may not have been the funniest joke, but it was still a joke. Get over it.
I sure hope the New Yorker never issues an apology. Liberals love to satirize everything but their precious sacred cows (Obama being one of them.) Grow up.
I love the line about how Obama doesn't want to be painted as a muslim extremist in a cartoon by freaking out over a cartoon, because a muslim extremist has NEVER freaked out over a harmless little cartoon.
Stewart is right. - nanajeebus, on 07/17/2008, -2/+10What you down digging fools failed to realize is that this post was in fact clever satire!
- seanieb, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8I thought this was the funniest part of last nights show.
Bush vs Ben Bernanke on the economy
http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ... - nanajeebus, on 07/17/2008, -0/+7My mind went through several stages before it ended up settling on this:
(it's postmodern) - lucutus, on 07/17/2008, -2/+8"Now if you'll excuse me I have a boner to fart on." ??? Dugg just for that last line!
- RealmDown, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5It might also be that they are more subtle than you give them credit for. Not all agendas are straight forward.
- henrikakselsen, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7It's been long weeks withouth the daily show. Good to have them back!
- iNunchuk, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4Its the internet, I don't think people can realize or begin to comprehend to realize written satire unless explicitly stated so - which you tried to do, but it was too late. The digg down cascade has begun.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -5/+9no canadian link as usual
- the6thReplicant, on 07/17/2008, -1/+5One of the best bits of the show are the interviews with people who actually know what they're talking about.
Even when they have people who I disagree with it's good to see them actually try to defend their arguments instead of just saying the same soundbite over and over again. - Dozernotz, on 07/17/2008, -2/+6Or they cynically took a cheap shot, to generate outrage, to boost a declining circulation. I have a hard time believing the entire editorial staff looked at that cover and thought, hmm, intelligent, biting, funny.
- Edmunds, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3The Daily Show Satirizes Satire
- Elohir, on 07/17/2008, -2/+5Satire is not a verb.
- Dozernotz, on 07/17/2008, -1/+4My ISP won't allow satyrical content but I think anything that happens between consenting fauna is nobody else's business.
- MacEnvy, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3This is exactly right. I mean, they've had their name and cover on every cable news show and late night talk show for the last week - I think they got exactly what they wanted.
- SRSco, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2The only difference is Jon Stewart (not John) is funny, Colbert is not.
(Edit: Colbert is funny in small doses...I loved him on the Daily Show and was extra excited for him to have his own show, but it's just too much. I don't find him funny anymore.) - jeremyduffy, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Pissing off isn't the problem. The problem is that many people that see it won't get it and take it literally which could harm Obama's reputation and career. They obviously didn't know or care what the reaction would be when they posted that cover.
- RealmDown, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3People have started skipping the "getting mad" step and going straight to "I'm offended, so they must be ostracized."
Sad indeed.
- bjenidles, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Thanks for correctioning me.
- repick3, on 07/17/2008, -2/+4SatireGate? Are you ***** kidding me?
...touche... - DaHuuuuuudge, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Did you actually think that the New Yorker believed that Obama was a muslim flag burner with a terrorist wife? If so, yes. You are a dumbass.
- bjenidles, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Just be sure, no one here complaining about the term Satiregate thinks it was coined or used seriously, right? You're all just satiring about Satiregate, right?
- Dozernotz, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Just like when people quote from Team America with blank faced sincerity. I laugh when I see people on forums shouting America ***** Yeah and meaning it.
- cplusplus, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/#clip66981
- bloggerster, on 07/17/2008, -1/+3Bush vs Ben Bernanke on WHAT?
- Stormwern, on 07/17/2008, -0/+2Agree, if you want them to be ostracized you're like the people trying to get your favourite tv shows off the air. They should be critizised, and they have, and whoever doesn't want to buy their magazine anymore is free not to.
- jaxcs, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1If you watch the entire daily show (it's on hulu.com), he says pointedly that the cover is just a picture and rails against the media for not covering more important things, yet he spends 2 segments on this topic. This piece being the second segment. It's obviously a satirical skit, but who gets the pointy end of the stick? Is Stewart mocking the many people who don't laugh hysterically at the numerous unfunny jokes or the (fake) correspondents who laugh hysterically at those unfunny jokes? At one point, Stewart had 3 correspondents explain one joke to the same person. Usually, if you have to explain a joke, let alone 3 times, it's not funny and not worth repeating... so what is he saying?
If Stewart meant to suggest in this second piece that the cover is just a picture, it's still telling that no one understood the picture as satire. And really, that's always been the main point. I get that people think this is a liberal outrage since Obama is obviously the democratic candidate, but even BillO is on Obama's side here. Last, I looked, BillO isn't an Obama fan.
Many guys have an idiot friend, he's the guy who does something outrageous like taking a ***** on your desk and is genuinely shocked when you take offense. It was just a joke he'll explain without apology, since of course it's not necessary being a joke, yet you'll still have ***** on your desk. This whole issue seems very similar to me, everybody has their side, but at the end of the day, somebody suffers, usually it's not the guy who took the dump. - alexgamerz, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2mirror for canadians?
- RyomaNagare, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2The funny thing about Satire , is that its like negative multiplying, if you satire a satire, you get a serious issue.
... Now if someone manages to make an awesome satyrical content about this, it would be hilarious. - CatfishAttack, on 08/15/2008, -0/+1http://healthyandenergy.com/frs-energy/
- bjenidles, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1I was satiring.
- 883XL, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1uh ***** YOU RIGGLE
- glutamate, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Underestimated their stupidity, I'd assume.
- toekneebullard, on 07/17/2008, -1/+2That poor redhead stuck between Riggel and Oliver yelling at each other...she looked so scared.
Damn I need to get cable again. - Elohir, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1No problem, I do that kind of thing all the time.
- WiretapStudios, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1Whooooosh
- thephosphorbox, on 07/17/2008, -9/+9Actually, as funny as this video is, it's a SAD reminder of the general mentality of the people in the US. Sure, the New Yorker might think "gee this is razor-sharp satire, great cover!", but to the average American looking at the newsstand, it's truth. They DON'T think any further into it than what's presented to them.. they take that image and run with it. Thanks, New Yorker, for damaging Obama's image.. I know you thought it was edgy and intelligent.. I'm sure you didn't mean for it to be interpreted the way it was, but unfortunately, you've underestimated the public. Again.
