- onejerusalem, on 06/24/2008, -1/+23by far one of my favorite comedians of all time - he will be sorely missed :(
- krc1, on 06/25/2008, -1/+18I didn't see any choking up on the video.
- quez, on 06/25/2008, -3/+18It strikes me as a bit ironic that Jon Stewart used euphemisms for death while paying tribute to a man who hated euphemisms.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 06/25/2008, -1/+12Seriously?
- snurfle, on 06/25/2008, -0/+11Well, yeah...
But the McRib *is* really pretty tasty. - mCanada, on 06/25/2008, -0/+11"and pray too seldom." You imbecile, do you honestly believe that Carlin thought Americans should pray more often?
- MasterGrief, on 06/25/2008, -0/+10In fact, it might have made it worse. Your seeing him in concert may have contributed to his heart failure.
How do you live with yourself? - bjenidles, on 06/25/2008, -0/+10Definitely NOT George Carlin. From Snopes.com:
George Carlin very emphatically denied he had had anything to do with "Paradox," a piece he referred to as "a sappy load of *****," and posted his comments about being associated with this essay on his own web site. With reference to the "His wife recently died" line found in many of the forwards, Brenda Carlin, the comedian's wife, died on 11 May 1997 of liver cancer. - georgemason01, on 06/25/2008, -0/+8At least we're giving him yet another reason to sardonically laugh at us.
- benroy, on 06/25/2008, -0/+8That clip was waaay too short and out of context. I love George and I love the Daily Show. But that was short and seemed rushed by the producers. Almost as if Comedy Central didn't have the legal right to show any other quality clip for more than eight seconds.
- JlmAWP, on 06/25/2008, -1/+8Jon Stewart nervously spinning his notes and not looking at the camera was all the body language I needed.
- jgzman, on 06/25/2008, -1/+8Well, it didn't do him any good, did it?
- BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+7He wasn't trying to be funny, he was mourning the loss of a hero.
- VigilanteP, on 06/25/2008, -0/+6Well surely something he said had to be his last words. Maybe not something poetic, like "I think I'm gonna go take a *****", but hey, they're still last words.
- theradical, on 06/25/2008, -0/+6but he's on four nights a week!
- MasterGrief, on 06/25/2008, -1/+7Hey, don't bury him because he didn't know, come on people, at least he knows now.
I've thought about it a lot, and even now, I don't know if I'd prefer to have known about him only after he died--when I find famous dead people who did things I like, I still like them, but without much depression I can say "It's too bad he/she's dead". With Carlin, I spent years saying "This guy's great! And he's still alive, which just makes him greater!", but that's all... I never went to a show (I wanted to, but never could, REALLY wish I had now) and while he was my favorite comedian and remains that, he really was never anything but a figure on my computer or television.
When he died, I was the closest to tears I'd ever been over anyone I knew of dying, even my freaking Grandfather, and I can't help but think, maybe it would have been better if I didn't know who he was until June twenty-third. - TrevorBradley, on 06/25/2008, -3/+8Zombie Carlin does not appreciate Comedy Central's non-American video censorship!
(anyone got a youtube link for those of us north of the border?) - mchisari, on 06/25/2008, -0/+4
At first I though tthat was an odd clip to play. Not one of his more famous bits, and from around 16 years ago. But upon examination I think it was the perfect clip, because so few comedians were willing to criticize the first Iraq war. There was a comedian talking about that in a Bill Hicks documentary once, about how a lot of fellow comedians were against the war, but afraid to say anything critical for fear of losing their audience. Bill Hicks, and here we see, George Carlin, knew that saying what was on their mind was more important than the fear of offending a delicate audience member over a war where lives were being lost. Superb choice, TDS. - NickLee808, on 06/25/2008, -1/+4http://artofmanliness.com/2008/06/22/15-great-men- ...
That's pretty manly in my book. - iJessicaRabbit, on 06/25/2008, -1/+4Carlin died?! I JUST saw him in concert! Wow. The world's out an amazing comedian. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill :)
- DeadSkinMask, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3I'm glad I had the privilege of seeing him live before he died.
George Carlin Will Be Missed. - mustang460, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3Like dick cheney.
- inactive, on 06/25/2008, -1/+4Must be a UK thing. I've never heard of him either, and I'm a huge fan of another American comedian: Bill Hicks.
- Elranzer, on 06/25/2008, -0/+3And not enough bad men dying.
- Darksoul, on 06/26/2008, -0/+3Anybody digging him down is a douchebag.

Why the hell didn't I know about this guy when he was living?! - BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2OK, fine, the mail may have been fake, but this guy only meant to remember what he thought were his words, and the video is one of Carlin's best.
- macshaggy, on 06/25/2008, -2/+4Said day but Mr. Carlin lived a pretty damn good life. Got to be famous, hopefully rich, and definitely loved by a million hippies and their kids. Yeah I would say that he was blessed even though he doesn't believe in that sh!t. As he would say...
- aviendah47, on 06/25/2008, -1/+3A hero to many, ***** I'll miss him so
- h0ser, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2stupid comedy central not allowing canadians to watch their videos. I hope the station burns.
- NickLee808, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2Here's hoping someone will tell us what George Carlin's famous last words here.
- BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2Ol' George wouldn't want us to mourn his loss, he would want us to move on, and have a good life. That said, I wish he were still around to touch others' hearts.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3PiZSFIVFiU - BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2I actually thought at first that it was from Carlin. I received the email I while back. I thought it was a really different tone than he normally takes, and now I know why.
- Shakermaker, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2is there a link for us Non-US citizens?
- Antyrael, on 06/25/2008, -0/+2Also US-only.
- deepbl, on 06/25/2008, -2/+3You know what else isn't funny? Your face.
- Ummagumma, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1It was nice to see, but I thought they gave Carlin a pretty short shrift, just a brief mention at the end of the show, and a very short clip of Carlin in action in what wasn't a particularly good bit of his. It's obvious that Carlin was a huge influence on Stewart, I was really expecting more.
He's been on the show, I wish they had have replayed that interview segment. I'm sure the person they would have bumped would understand. - BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Sadly, I don't think he had any time for last words. He died of cardiac arrest. You can't predict that.
- benroy, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1So was George.
I'm Going to name my first-born son Carlin. - BestJaxx, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1I know what you mean, but by last words I meant planned last words.
- radstopper, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Perfect tribute considering he was on the show three times over the past several years. Looks like Lewis Black is now America's preeminent angry comedian.
http://interviewlistings.com/george-carlin - MasterGrief, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1I think he's down there now... Screaming up at us. And I think he's in... Severe pain.
I'm sorry, it's a great quote though. What I really think is, if all has gone according to plan, he's doing nothing. He's just dead. ***** dead, as he would put it, I'm certain. He's not looking at anyone, he's not doing anything, he's ***** dead. - dudefaceguyman, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Especially since he's most likely residing in 'Heck' right now. It's not as severe as hell so he's doing alright. ;)
- MasterGrief, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1I saw a guy in another digg article on Carlin's death saying that Carlin was probably grinning and "lighting up a cig" right now--I don't think he had actually been referencing the final HBO performance.
- Shakermaker, on 06/25/2008, -0/+1Is there a link for us Canadian Citizens?
