- unii, on 08/26/2008, -1/+30Gotta sell that lifestyle of spending recklessly, sleeping around, and being a whore in life... Gotta glamorize stupidity and *****.. It's the only way to keep those $$$$'s rolling... Gotta make people feel as empty and as hollow as you can so they go out and buy buy buy buy.. What a load of *****.
- roodammy44, on 08/26/2008, -2/+15@aekdbbop:
The majority of the rich people in london are stockbrokers, who piss their money away arrogantly and are paid bonuses each year worth about 10 times the average house while destroying the world's financial system as a day job.
The really rich generally don't pay tax at all, since they're registered to live in tax havens, and the majority of the rich pay less than the poor since all they pay is capital gains tax.
Please, stop pulling ideology out of your arse and look around you at what's happening in the real world. - 5xSTUN, on 08/26/2008, -2/+14When times get tough for regular folk, rich people start to be seen as part of the problem, especially as they're handed big tax cuts while middle class tax rates are raised.
- theberlindoctor, on 08/26/2008, -0/+11successful and rich are two different things.
- mediaspree, on 08/26/2008, -0/+9Pitch: "Its called 'Dirty Sexy Money' "
Souless Network: "Sold!" - ViperCTW, on 08/26/2008, -0/+6I'll stick with Good Times thank you very much.
- TimDigg, on 08/26/2008, -0/+6Paris Hilton, Britney Spears = Made good decisions and is great with her money... please
Just because Warren Buffet and Ingvar Kamprad live in a tiny ass house, don't think that represents the majority of rich people...on the contrary - phike, on 08/26/2008, -0/+5Blame it on the success of shows such as "Sex and the City" and "Entourage". Just a fad filled with garbage.
- Cheesasaurus, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4Who seriously thought "Dirty Sexy Money" was a good name for a TV show? Can you imagine what pitching that was like?
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4It is very important to show the lower class that the rich are better then them. more important, get better justice and so on. once you get used to that then its time for the next step.
- 1310nm, on 08/26/2008, -0/+4People are still watching sitcoms and prime-time dramas?
- Smaulz, on 08/26/2008, -2/+5@aekdbbop
Take your facts elsewhere, they're not welcome on Digg. - bulgingbritches, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3My favorite show is "Top Hooker".
- Konstrict, on 08/26/2008, -0/+3Don't forget about the youngsters! MTV's 'My Sweet 16'....
ugh - reuscel, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Who watches television shows when they actually air anymore?
- cjohara, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Lame, I prefer "Pimp My Sister"
- sultanica, on 08/26/2008, -1/+3here's an idea for a show - follow the worlds richest people around as they destroy the planet and surround themselves with the trappings of luxury
- mstachiw, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Maybe we will see contemporary storylines... senators have to foreclose on 1 of their 7 homes, celebrity announcers saved by real estate moguls, or mortgage banker lobbying for a government bail out with your tax dollars.
- BrewBeau, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Well, someone like Paris Hilton should be looked down on, I would say. She's famous because of her parents. Rich because of them. And now she makes a fortune in addition to that by showing up to upscale Vegas parties. She's talentless, kind of weird looking, and seems to be proud of being dumb. Meanwhile, the media tries to make us think she is relevant. Am I jealous of her wealth and freedom to do whatever she wants? Yeah, a little. Am I disgusted with the fact that she adds nothing to society while she could use her position to do good? Yeah, a lot.
- BrewBeau, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Exactly. You might be the world's best 5th grade teacher and never have a chance at being rich. Though, you might inherit a fortune and let an accountant make you more money in the market. Or maybe you make some widget, like the Pedegg, and make a quick fortune off of that. But are you really successful?
- Her3t1k, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2A very valid point that honestly, I had not thought of. Personally I hate Paris, not because she's rich, but like you said "talentless, kind of weird looking, and seems to be proud of being dumb" (which seems to be a more accurate description than I could muster) and yet people seem to love her for it? I have seen girls who want to be her (and guys who want to ***** her). And yes the media certainly does seem to try to make a lot of things that are pointless seem relevant. Sadly the people who are rich that do add to society aren't as interesting to the media (and they don't play to it like Paris, obviously) or try to keep a low profile. When it comes down to it, I suppose you could just say it depends on the person.
- Her3t1k, on 08/26/2008, -2/+4I'm curious, what do you diggers consider rich? The dictionary definition is: "Possessing material wealth." But how much? Is it in terms of overall net worth? Yearly income? Or in terms of possessions and/or lifestyle? And to what amount/degree?
My answer is sort of a combination: When you no longer need to work to support the lifestyle that you are very happy with.
How do you feel about people who are rich? In my opinion it's certainly not a negative thing, even if they didn't earn it (what are they supposed to do? Throw it away?), nor something to be looked down upon. To do so, IMHO, would be jealous and childish. - vroom101, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1"TV's embarrassment of riches" by Chuck Barney: http://www.mercurynews.com/tv/ci_10288916
- bjs3171, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Gossip Girl is just about the worst television show i've ever watched. And this is in a time where I think some of the greatest shows of all time are currently on. Dexter, Weeds, The Riches, House...Gossip Girl, though, is like Cruel Intentions, except completely pointless. And i liked Cruel Intentions quite a bit.
- canuck102, on 08/26/2008, -3/+4Correct me if I'm wrong, but during the Great Depression was there also a whole lot of media the depicted rich people?

- RoboDonut, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1"Who doesn't want to be called rich? Since when is it a bad thing to be successful?"
"Rich" and "successful" are two entirely different things. - arjie, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Ha! Dream on! The purpose of the television isn't to talk about real life or any of that sort. It's for entertainment to keep your mind off that. If they wanted to send a message, they'd use Western Union.
- Trifold, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Punch a rich person in the face?

Try watching a few of these shows. NONE of them have ever gotten anything by means of hard work. - wassim2k, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1This is over-the-top.
- pappyblueribs, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1Absolutely! Now, if only Daddy Warbucks would come along and adopt me...
- 5xSTUN, on 08/26/2008, -1/+2The mortgage crisis in the USA? Rich people.
The Iraq War? Rich people.
AIDS crisis in Africa? Rich people.
Terrorism? Really, really super-rich people.
Zimbabwe? Rich guy and his rich friends.
That's not to say that every rich person has a hand in creating, prolonging, or exacerbating the world's problems, but where there are huge problems in the world that are plaguing many, many people, you'll find rich people either causing it or deliberately stopping anyone from fixing it. - worldnick, on 08/26/2008, -0/+1I think the problem is the 'American Dream.' I was thinking about this the other day. Whenever I see people on the news talk about 'the American Dream' it is usually referring to some guy who started a used car lot and is now making millions or someone selling trinkets on the internet. I was thinking maybe this isn't the 'American Dream' anymore. Maybe ..don't quote me on this.. maybe Americans are becoming enlightened enough to think a 'Dream' involves happiness for other people as well even people on other continents friends and family. I was watching the democratic convention (don't kill me for being brainwashed), but I really started to get the idea with all the shy celebrities coming out of the woodworks that something almost too delicate to mention was being born. Yeah Idealist in the house :|
- ulyanov, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0Don't worry, I'm working on a solution that will eliminate this problem.

Regards to my pal Dickens. - Smaulz, on 08/26/2008, -3/+3You're talking to the wrong crowd here. The rich are evil, and the cause of all the world's problems. There's no possible way someone can earn wealth honestly without taking advantage of the "little guy". Right?
- gkiltz, on 08/26/2008, -0/+0If you get DirecTV, you'll have BOTH! Fine Living Channel, and Fox Reality Challenged Channel!

Whoever the blonde one is, she's hot - bradp25, on 12/09/2008, -0/+0Hey, you guys like the show Gossip Girl? LOL. I guess not. Does anybody know where to get that song by Lincoln Hawk? Or is it Linkin Hawk? http://alliedglobalnursing.com/entertainment/blog/ ... I've searched the episodes and download sites.
- Rixar13, on 08/26/2008, -1/+1The insanity of the Rich is they are averted from helping the less fortunate and how sad.
