- deadapostle, on 03/24/2009, -3/+68As far as reeling Baltar back at the end, I loved it when he said "I know something about farming." It was as though the depth of humanity's loss had finally hit him completely with the lamentation of his father.
- then00b, on 03/23/2009, -3/+58Boy I'm sure glad they decided against ending it that way.
- cptshamrock, on 03/24/2009, -2/+42So a barely formed idea is the ending I didn't see?
- raydeen, on 03/23/2009, -2/+38Wow. I'm glad God intervened and caused the writers strike that spared us from having to see that ending. ;)
- Velnich, on 03/24/2009, -1/+23god did it
- thcobbs, on 03/24/2009, -0/+19No, there were several references to his father early on... especially with him changing his accent and everything.
- deadapostle, on 03/24/2009, -0/+18When he was in prison, he talked about how he grew up as a farmer and had a very gravelly voice. The father was added in to help sell the moment, but this was not contrived.
- Velnich, on 03/24/2009, -0/+17and then wrote himself into another one. :-\
- shadowman99, on 03/24/2009, -0/+17Lee turned his back and Starbuck ran away as fast as she could.
- adml_shake, on 03/24/2009, -2/+18I'm glad they didn't go that route, I was very pleased with the ending as it was shown. We weren't left with a feeling of "what happened to them after the battle, they just kinda took off and called it done." Instead we got to see where each of them ended up more or less. And we got to decide what we thought Kara and the C6&B head jobs were.
- Jektal, on 03/24/2009, -0/+12My assumption is she is another form of the Baltar/Six head-job thing, created by whatever they call "god" (I'm assuming it's not actually a deity based on Head Baltar's remarks at the end.) But with Head Kara, she is able to interact with everyone, not just Baltar or Six (at the end we see that Head Baltar and Head Six can both interact with both Baltar and Six, at least at times. And we've seen before that Head Six can physically interact with Baltar (like when she held him up in the hallway.))
I never watched the original BSG, but form what I understand the story got wrapped up by super-advanced benign aliens in a Ship of Lights. I'm thinking the Head-people's "god" was a nod to the old story, and saying that in addition to Humans and Cylons, a third and unshown race exists in their universe, with power far greater than either.
These aliens are either misinterpreted or simplified by Head Six and Head Baltar (and later Head Kara in a sort of reluctant self-denial way) as their God. - bdbr, on 03/24/2009, -0/+11My favorite explanation so far: she's a ninja.
Moore's explanation is that she's some sort of super-angel who people can touch and see. It was a complete change from their normal take on faith as something vague and unsure. - cJw314, on 03/24/2009, -2/+13You know it doesn't like to be called by that name.
- gerardbrazil, on 03/24/2009, -9/+19I totally agree. Just like real life, they use "God" to fill in the holes. Lame
- Stucarius, on 03/24/2009, -3/+13WOW!! It could have been worse.I did not think that was possible.
- Crisender111, on 03/24/2009, -8/+17BSG ending SUCKED! You know it.
- Greedfeed, on 03/24/2009, -0/+9Well, in reality it was added during Baltar's trial when we discovered he changed his accent because he grew up on a farm and hated his culture so much that he literally reinvented his life.
- JiMiThInG, on 03/24/2009, -0/+9I find a good tv series, book, or film...a really good story is a lot like real life. At the end of the day it is about the journey itself not the destination. And the better the story is the harder it is to have and ending that is 'perfect' . Looking at some of my recent favorite stories Kings Dark Tower, BSG, or even Harry Potter I can get caught up about minor things with the endings I did not like. But the real gold was in getting to that point and being that invested in the story.
- BobSutan, on 03/24/2009, -1/+9This made me LOL. It's from the comments in that article:
"On a certain meta-metaphysical level, the ending was quite satisfactory: Starbuck and the angels were telling the truth -- there *was* a power shaping all of their destinies for inscrutable reasons...and it was Ronald D. Moore.
In the BSG universe, Ronald D. Moore is the supreme being. This is not a conceit, but rather a fact as he was the architect of their universe and the master of all their fates.
"Why, mommy, why?"
"Because Ronald has a plan."" - xobarbarian, on 03/24/2009, -0/+8The farmer stuff was brought up before, or don't you actually WATCH the show? He even slipped into a weird accent from his home world.
- Pixelante, on 03/24/2009, -0/+8How? He's Adama. He'll order the wood around and wood will comply.
- BaconLover, on 03/24/2009, -0/+8Ron Moore's podcast is up now, and he goes into MUCH more detail about this alternate finale idea, which is really an alternate entire second half of the last season.
The original plan was concocted when they broke the rest of the season out, but the Writer's Strike happened before any of the second half was filmed. When they reconvened after the Writer's Strike, they rewrote the entire second half of the season, only keeping the elements they felt worked. It was a very interesting listen - kurttrail, on 03/24/2009, -2/+10And then he'd get drunk, start blubbering like a baby and puke on himself.
- zip000, on 03/24/2009, -1/+9I think Scotty beamed her out.
- coolearl, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7It is left open to interpretation. I assume that she was sent back by Head Six and Head Baltar at the Nebula to guide the Colonials to Earth. Once her mission was completed I think she rejoined Sam on the other side.
- AvatarofJustice, on 03/24/2009, -9/+16It's funny, the thing that I didn't like about the Galactica ending was how they tied everything up all neat and nice. I honestly don't believe all of humanity would just agree to give up their technology. A more realistic depiction would have been a human versus human conflict over whether to keep technology or not. Also, all of Cavil's cylons presumably got wiped out. Just too neat and nice. Personally, I prefer something like the ending to The Sopranos.
Another issue I had with the ending is how all the prophecies ended up just being smoke and mirrors to keep people watching the show. No real explanation of where they came from and the stuff with Hera could've happened at any point in the show. All someone had to do to set that off was to kidnap her.
The show should've had a grimmer ending. Adama didn't go down with his ship? *****. - RandomNetUser, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7What about the remaining bad cylons out there? They even made it a point to say base stars had jumped into and out of the cylon outpost while the raptor was taking pictures, so there are at LEAST two base stars still out there.
- scooterbaga, on 03/24/2009, -0/+7Thanks for playing!
- inactive, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8Ok. Watching the series finale a second time. What happened to Starbuck?
- trolleyfan, on 03/24/2009, -1/+8Weeelllll, yes and no...
- tehmark, on 03/24/2009, -6/+13I very much enjoyed the last episode. It is incredibly refreshing to see writers tie up loose ends and make their audience happy over trying to force either a spinoff or another season.
Thank you BSG team! - mbraynard, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6Yeah, I thought about that, too. I can't find a logical explanation to get around there being other basestars with skin jobs - though presumably skin jobs age and die, right?
I think someone should ask Ron Moore that question. - MOJIRA, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6Katie Sackhoff refused to be a part of the ***** ending so they literally had to write her out of a scene in the middle of it.
- Jektal, on 03/24/2009, -1/+7I don't think they rushed it, just that they finally had to pay for all the short-sighted episodic writing they did through the 2nd and 3rd season.
- qwertyuio, on 03/24/2009, -1/+7Your comment jumped the shark.
- alecks, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6The only thing that pissed me off was when Galactica jumped away from the colony. In previous episodes they made a point to say that a ship jumping creates a temporal distortion in space that can rip another ship appart if close by. Remember when Sharon jumped with Hera right next to Gallactica and it kinnda ***** it up?
Gallactica jumped from, quite literally, being lugged into the colony ship, and nothing happend. - libertao, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6Are you kidding? The last episode was jam-packed (until the LOTR-esque final 30 minutes), but the episodes leading up to it seemed to have hardly anything happen until the last 5 minutes of each episode.
- jedinate, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6I wonder why Hera is the key to Cylons continued survival. It's not like she was an immaculate conception, shouldn't the parents be the ones studied?
- Thumper13, on 03/24/2009, -0/+6The Red Stripes were the only ones who knew where the Galactica jumped to. So yes, there are thousands, maybe millions of dying off Cylons out there, but they have no idea where the Galatica ended up.
- rrouse, on 03/24/2009, -0/+5Poor Dee.
- phosphite, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4She went out like Poochy on Itchy and Scratchy: "I have to go now. My planet needs me."
Bad writing and lack of imagination FTL...poor Starbuck. - leetninja, on 03/24/2009, -4/+8it seems like they completely rushed this season in comparison to all the others ... final season or not it shouldnt have been rushed like this - a lot of open ended questions that should have been and normally would have been answered - gotta love BSG though. One of the if not THE best show in a LONG time
- emptyo, on 03/24/2009, -2/+6Pretty awesome that they got the exclusive interview, actually. I dug the last episode. I thought it was full of suprises, and well done. I didn't, however, like how Starbuck just disappeared and "Oh yea, she was a ghost".
- idontlikeyou2, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5@Thumper13
How did boomber find the fleet and deliever Ellen than ?
My beef with the ending was that it was just shallow. The first three season tackled social issues and it wasn't afraid to be edgy. I would've thought the ending would've have a much deeper meaning other than, God did it, kthxbye. - phosphite, on 03/24/2009, -2/+6Poor Starbuck. Why RDM, why couldn't you let the ending to her story not be gay?
- STKD, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4How did you know I know it? :O
- shadowman99, on 03/24/2009, -1/+5@chukd - Getting rid of their ships was always going to be a problem when they arrived at Earth. If they had kept their ships you'd have a bunch of fanboys asking "why didn't the Pharaohs have space flight?" and "Why can't we travel faster than light?". The fleet arrived at the dawn of ***** Sapiens. The earliest civilizations rose 7000 BC. So between the fleet arriving and the rise of Mesopotamian civilization there's 141,000 years for climate to erase all evidence of whatever hardware and personal belongings the fleet did keep. Small ships can disappear into the soil. A Battlestar could not.
The technology had to be explained away without derailing the rest of the story. So they did a scene with Lee and Bill and either people buy it or they don't.
- libertao, on 03/24/2009, -0/+4She was an angel (that's why she found her real body at the crash site) like Baltar and Caprica had of each other.
- thcobbs, on 03/24/2009, -2/+6"Adama didn't go down with his ship? *****."
He was the last man off. That's all one can expect. If a ship is derelict, but not foundering, the captain will ensure everyone gets off. If at that point he can still leave, he will. - MOJIRA, on 03/24/2009, -0/+3Kevin Smith suggested that when they got to earth they were just intercepted by a ***** load of nukes and missles coming form the surface. I can't believe Kevin Smith could have written a better ending... WTF RON MOORE?
