- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -5/+64The 10 Longest Running American TV Shows in History
- CoreyTamas, on 06/24/2009, -1/+45American shows, sure.
Hockey Night In Canada started in 1931 and is still going now. - ousthouse, on 06/24/2009, -0/+41FTA "More than 7,000 episodes into its current incarnation, The Price Is Right has given away some $800 billion in prizes."
That would mean the show gives out over $100 million every episode. - inactive, on 06/23/2009, -0/+31WTF is that?
- mcking, on 06/23/2009, -0/+29This article is horse *****..... Where's the mention of meet the press?! On air since 1947
- bbueno, on 06/23/2009, -3/+29They forgot Sabado Gigante: 1962-present. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabado_gigante
- Marlon, on 06/24/2009, -1/+23no soap operas?
only American shows?
buried as inaccurate - momzilla54, on 06/23/2009, -1/+21"Excluding soap operas and non-primetime news programming, the following shows have been the beacons for television audiences."
Meet the Press, venerable though it may be, is a non-prime time news show. - Shadic, on 06/24/2009, -0/+19To be fair, nobody could replace Bob Barker.
- TheDarkPrince, on 06/24/2009, -2/+19A minor detail, but it's the longest running *AMERICAN* TV shows.
Here's a helpful formula for those who aren't entirely sure: America != The entire world. - wannaBdug, on 06/22/2009, -2/+19The anchors on 60 minutes look older than God. But I still watch it. I love that Andy Rooney.
- inactive, on 06/23/2009, -1/+17dugg for mention of CoCo
- jmcneilly, on 06/24/2009, -2/+17What about Doctor Who? Not continuously, but been broadcast 1963. Over 750 episodes, all told.
- tehWyman, on 08/19/2009, -0/+14Buried for no Doctor Who.
- doublefelix, on 06/23/2009, -0/+14"I didn't get old on purpose, it just happened. If you're lucky, it could happen to you."
- solid12345, on 06/24/2009, -0/+13***** the Price is Right can fix our deficit!
- FakingFamous, on 06/23/2009, -4/+16Drew Carey is lame. Dugg because Bob Barker is a legend
- skinny01, on 06/24/2009, -0/+10What about Soul Train, the hippest trip in America?! It's been on since 1970 and lasted for 35 years!
- SolitaireRose, on 06/24/2009, -0/+10So are Good Morning America and Today, IMHO, especially since they are both produced by the news divisions of their companies.
- dinuguan, on 06/24/2009, -0/+9Top of the Pops and Coronation St., yo!
- jbmcb, on 06/24/2009, -0/+9Meh, arbitrary to exclude daytime news and soaps - daytime game shows are OK? Price is Right but no Jeopardy? It's run is non-contiguous, but it's been on more years than Sports Center.
- disappointed, on 06/24/2009, -0/+8Yeah, Einstein. In total there's been over 800,000 episodes, meaning they've given away less than $1,000,000 per show. Do the math, Newton. Think about it, Plato.
- Jabrams2, on 06/23/2009, -2/+9As a huge sports fan, I have to say that Sportscenter has gone seriously down hill in the past few years. It definitely has lost a lot of it's appeal IMO.
- matticusf1nch, on 06/24/2009, -2/+9Doctor Who?
- steelese, on 06/24/2009, -1/+8Actually the longest running TV show in history is Music and the Spoken Word by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They first broadcast in 1949 and have never missed a week since then. They also have been on the radio since 1929. Also they forgot about the Grand Olde Oprey. Anyway. This is not correct. Oh wait, there's meet the press as well. I think that's a little longer on TV.
- Samurai77, on 06/24/2009, -0/+7I was just going to say that.
- jbmcb, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6That's a whole boatload of people landing on $1.00 twice.
- chadsterrr, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Boring ass TV
- Lorddias, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6I was going to say the same thing.
- Hraes, on 06/24/2009, -1/+7***** love that show. Only catch about half the words, but it does not matter at all.
- brownsound00, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Ahhh... the theme song when it was on CBC. ***** TSN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsnKZFg6fAA - MacGyver2210, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6When who would show up?
- TheZorch, on 06/24/2009, -0/+6Yes, Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction TV show in history. While for much of its run the series has a shoe-string budget the series did have some of the most outstanding writing of any TV sci-fi series next to Star Trek.
- EarthBoundX5, on 06/24/2009, -1/+6Doctor Who
November 23, 1963 – December, 6 1989
May 12, 1996
March 26, 2005 – present - kleon777, on 06/24/2009, -2/+7Is there any reason for excluding soaps?
- OuijaCat, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5"The Price Is Right has given away some $800 billion in prizes." ?!?!
...Maybe these are the guys who should be running the Economic Recovery... - MarrowMan, on 06/24/2009, -0/+5was wondering when Who would show up.
- LightPhoenix, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4I'd say many, if not all, of these shows have gone down hill over the last twenty years.
- MScrip, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4People say they hate commercials on TV.... but The Price is Right is one GIANT commercial!
- Tibin05, on 06/24/2009, -1/+5What about The Simpsons? Cartoons get no love?
- inactive, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4Really - what a tard you and Rooney both are.
- karlyguy, on 06/24/2009, -0/+4the article says they are excluding news programs and then they have 60 minutes and good morning america? they arent like news reporters but they're still in the category.
and why is it all american?
Sports Program - Hockey Night in Canada is running 1952-Current (or 1965-current if you want to think only of the exclusively cbc program) - j0kerz, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3dugg for keeping everything in one page
- Khast, on 06/24/2009, -2/+5Hmm, and it probably isn't adjusted for inflation either. /s
- BoOtto, on 06/24/2009, -1/+4uh, big time fail.. soap opera Guiding Light has been on TV since it's inception... And is going off the air after 60 some odd years, i believe, this fall..
buried for fail - benroy, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3"You Dumb Bastard! It's Not a Schooner... it's a Sailboat!"
- kurupttek, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Snickers Snickers si queires chocolate!
- jeblis, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Austin City Limits?
"First aired in 1976, Austin City Limits has become American television's longest-running concert music program." - barroni, on 06/24/2009, -0/+3Coronation Street 1960 it started
My mother has watched it religiously - Hraes, on 06/24/2009, -1/+4They're terrible? They stay the same show in name only? Who knows.
