"Less filling!"
"Tastes great!"
"Less filling!"
"Tastes great!"
...etc, etc, etc.... - JoJones, on 04/26/2008, -0/+12They don't make'em like they used to. Old ads are entertaining. Besides Apple vs Mac most ads today don't have the light hearted attitude of the 70's.
- brycelb, on 04/26/2008, -0/+12What's Apple vs. Mac?
- Kas70, on 04/26/2008, -0/+12She left so many out! I speak in 70's lingo sometimes too; my kids think I'm loopy but I think it's fun.
"He likes it! Hey Mikey!" -Life Cereal
"Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific" - That was the literal name of a shampoo.
I can't remember the name of the shampoo that had beer in it, but there was one.
Dan, Dan, the Maytag Man.
"Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is." - Alka Seltzer
Mrs. Butterworth recently came back to life on the Geico commercials, but when I was a kid I used to stare and stare at the bottle we had and hope she would talk to me like she did on TV.
The Coke commercial where the kid gives his Coke to the tired, grumpy football player - making the player smile, say "Hey kid!", and throw him his jersey (I think that's how it went).
Dr. Pepper (I'm a pepper, you're a pepper...) & Coke (I'd like to teach the world to sing...)
The Frito Bandito.
And does anyone know why they got rid of Count Chocula and Frankenberry cereal? - digghandyman, on 04/26/2008, -1/+12Beeeeer. Hmm. But was that a 70's commercial?
- soaring, on 04/26/2008, -0/+10"Pretty Sneaky Sis!" - http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=WU1K4X_LOxY (not a rickroll)
- surfacewound, on 04/26/2008, -0/+9So PSAs don't count? The Crying Indian easily has to be one of the most memorable:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3QKvEy0AIk
And isn't the "Buy the World A Coke" commercial supposed to be one of the most memorable/highly regarded commercials of all time?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8H5263jCGg - inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+8I can't believe I ate the whooooooole thing!
- KatoHamatsu, on 04/26/2008, -0/+7Don't forget the Connect-4 ads. I'll try to digg one up.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+7LOL, ancient chinese secret. I miss those old commercials.
- WoogieHauser, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5I might have been a bit on the young side, but I swear I remember the Mr. Microphone commercial. Classic.
- DiggieDarko, on 04/26/2008, -0/+5I never realized just how hot Madge was until now.
- cocoamix, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Thanks Digg. I feel even older because I actually remember all of these!
(I'm 38)
This one should be on the list (unless it was the 80s. I can't remember.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhcE-Dj_tLU - ryan926, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4"Freshen-Up! The gum that goes.......SQUIRT!"
I could not get over that commercial, it is so corny that it's hilarious.
"The gum that squirts refreshment all over your--" um. - PhillyMJS, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4Pret-ty sneaky, sis.
- evil-doer, on 04/26/2008, -0/+4youtube needs some kind of sound normalizing or some *****. anyone notice those vids varied from "i can barely hear it" to "holy ***** my ears are bleeding" ?
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 04/26/2008, -1/+5I liked watching these, reminds us of a time when ads were original....even if a bit cheesy. Unlike today where they all seem to steal apple's reflection effect.
- orb_nsc, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Ah, let it be Lowenbrau!
Words to live by. - wbeavis, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I think the coke commercial was with Mean Joe Green
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I got you......DIAGONALLY!!!!!!!!
- skinny01, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3Right on Kas, definitely missed some classics. Here's Mikey:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYEXzx-TINc
And what about the slinky commercials? - ReDoEr, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I think the Miller Lite commercials were mid-80's.
- newsledbans, on 04/26/2008, -1/+4I wouldn't know about it if it wasn't for The Simpsons.
- kreatre2007, on 04/26/2008, -0/+3I love these!! I bet the Calgon commercial would be viewed as racist today.
- brycelb, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2I realize that unless it happens to you it probably doesn't happen but, there aren't 10 cable news channels because no one is watching. You can judge for yourself if you like the content but people are still watching.
- JEAH, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2where's 'Reunite on Ice'?? wtf
- Janiswhistle, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Oh I loved those, thanks for reminding me.
- tambird, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Great list. I think I had forgotten all of those. Oh Madge. Now women around the world think their dish soap is good for their hands.
- MuddyMudskipper, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2i have the jingle "... and they call it... Charlie!" burned into a few synapses.
- locamama, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2What about taking the Nestea plunge?
- dxgg, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3What about the Nescafe commercials with Anthony Stewart Head ("Rupert Giles" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and brother of Murray Head, who sang "One Night in Bangkok")?
A commercial miniseries, where you wonder if it's the coffee that's going to help him get the girl. :) - Wolfghost, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Count Chocula is still around, and I've seen Frankenberry but only around Halloween.
- twinklyJesus, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Did you ever watch "That 70's Show"? it was nothing like that.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -1/+3Hi, I'm a spoiled rich kid whose entire identity depends on my parents buying me the latest fad gadget.
And, I'm a trendy looking, liberal arts major, armchair environmentalist who complains about big corporations, while writing my soon to be discovered screenplay in my local Starbucks. - Wolfghost, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2Those Nescafe commercials were in the '80s, not '70s.
- inactive, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2So nice?
- Servebot, on 04/26/2008, -0/+2After reading these comments, I feel like I am in Demolition Man where in the future they all listen to old jingles from ads of the past for entertainment...
- Changa, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1It's a floor wax!
It's a dessert topping! - Zoshchenko, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1Dugg for using the apostrophe correctly in '70s.
- areyouserious, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1I'm still waiting for my damn Sea Monkeys that i ordered in 76...
- StigNordas, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1Macs suffer when you have more than a handful of flash videos embedded on one page. At least mine does.
- SergioValente, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1Do you like those ads? I hate them! and I am a lifelong Apple user.
- BradBrown, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1They left out the Ayds diet plan - lose weight with Ayds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1WkHb0OToY - binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1When I was 10, I knew I was gay, if for no other reason than the Enjoli commerical.
- DaffyDuck, on 04/26/2008, -0/+1The article claims it is an American beer but I looked it up and it appears to be a true German beer but in the US was brewed under license by Miller. Quoted from Wikipedia:
"Up until 2002, Löwenbräu beer sold in American markets was brewed under license by Miller Brewing Company, and was given an anglified pronunciation. Although it used the same "recipe" the taste was different than the Munich brewed version. After 2002, Löwenbräu began directly exporting its beer from Munich vastly improving the quality for American drinkers." - zapthedragon, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1more devine caroline spam!!
- JulyZerg, on 04/27/2008, -0/+1Just when I thought that the top ten list may be on ONE PAGE, they had to go and keep making poorly designed lists.
At least the content was memorable on this one... - diggopolous, on 04/28/2008, -0/+1The Lowenbrau beer commercial (Here's to good friends) - The rumour was that at least back then you could have beer commercials BUT you could not show any of the actors drinking a beer (by law). So Lowenbrau has some dude just about to take a guzzle and catches himself right before the bottle hit's his lips and then toast his buddies with Oh, Here's to good friends!'
