- HeadInJarMan, on 06/09/2009, -2/+37Stephen Colbert is America.
- Nick217, on 06/09/2009, -4/+34"The Word" is the most ingenious part of Colbert's "Report." It's the deliciously sinful marriage between O'Reilly's Talking Points and the best years of the Daily Show.
- madeingermany, on 06/09/2009, -0/+29Watching Obama order Colbert's hair being cut had me laughing tears

- IllBeBack, on 06/09/2009, -0/+18And so can you!
- paulmwaltz, on 06/09/2009, -0/+17Awesome wasn't it? I was rolling on the floor when they had Obama command to shave Steven's hair. :D

- Stormwern, on 06/09/2009, -0/+12He's not dumbing it down, he's talking slower so people can hear him. You have to make some concessions when you're playing infront of 50x more people than usual, in a room that wasn't designed to be a studio.
- overtoke, on 06/09/2009, -3/+13special note for conservatives: colbert is being sarcastic
- tidu, on 06/09/2009, -0/+10"no, but my ears are really that big" :D
- frostbyt, on 06/09/2009, -0/+9Finally it's over. Now lets pack our ***** up and go home!
- drstock, on 06/09/2009, -3/+12Mission Accomplished!
- rmxz, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8The day Bush announced Mission Accomplished, he should have handed off the occupation from the DOD to the DOT, HUD, and both DOE's (energy and education).
Had he done that, the Iraqis would have seen that the US could have been serious about rebuilding Iraq rather than continuing to destroy it for many more years.
And if we ever want the Iraqi's to see us as liberators, I'd still say we hand off the effort away from the DOD and CIA and transfer ownership of the occupation to the agencies that focus on building rather than breaking stuff. - IllBeBack, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8The point of "The Word" is actually to break the fourth wall. It raises the level of the comedy even higher than if the written commentary was absent.
Let yourself laugh... Stop over-analyzing the mechanics, and just know that they would not do or would change "The Word" segments if they weren't funny.
Your comment sort of reminds me of a "King of the Hill" episode where Bobby goes to a school to learn how to be funny, but in the end discovers that he was funny all along and the douchebag running the school didn't know ***** about comedy. - andywarthol, on 06/09/2009, -4/+11They shaved his head. He really is one of them. ;)
- gvoakes, on 06/09/2009, -0/+7Did you even watch the video?
- klo8, on 06/09/2009, -1/+6What an amazing episode. One of the best this year I think.

full episode(US) - bpwned, on 06/10/2009, -0/+4I usually really like Colbert, but this episode was... well, weird. I guess you need to be an American to appreciate it. To a foreigner this militarism etc. just feels strange.
- DeadlyAlpaca, on 06/09/2009, -0/+4Thanks bud, I always appreciate the quick Canadian links. However, the clip in this case is Part 1 of 4, not 2 of 4.

- dralezero, on 06/09/2009, -0/+3We invaded a country and won! Cool. Who's next?
- MacVogt, on 06/09/2009, -0/+3That must have come across as painfully ironic to the soldiers.
- dippyskoodlez, on 06/09/2009, -0/+3And just think we have 3 more this week!
- ChuyMatt, on 06/09/2009, -0/+3Does anyone else have a hell of a time getting video from this site ALL the time?
- MachThree, on 06/10/2009, -0/+2Good to see celebrities entertain the troops, regardless of who they are.
- IgorUnchained, on 06/09/2009, -1/+3The soldiers (about 10 times the size of his usual audience) erupted in cheers.
I know Colbert is ballsy, but I figured he would have saved something like
"declaring victory in Iraq" for his last show.
This country is so much better for having Stewart and Colbert in it. The most engaging
journalists and media watchdogs are comedians. That is the state of the left in this country...
the GOP isnt the only party in trouble. - HarrisonBn, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1hahaha you are ridiculously stupid and hypocritical. find me a link where colbert honestly calls himself conservative. spew hate? HarrisonBinLaden? Good one dude. Who said I'm a liberal? hahaha
- Obermeister, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1America, love it or leave it buddy! Oh wait.....
- sonofabiscuit, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1He's got a chance.
- klo8, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1Oh yeah, I can't wait. :)
- inactive, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1Yea, in FRANCE!
- Nboy514, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1Cheers mate!
- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -0/+1He won't win don't jizz yourself.
- HarrisonBn, on 06/10/2009, -1/+1special note for buddypriefert: Did I mention that "Sunday school" does not = conservative? Dumbass. Think before you write, and get your facts straight as well.
Read the first sentence.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_colbert#Perso ... - quirkopatra, on 06/09/2009, -2/+1How about you let the president and the military handle it? Dufus. There was insurgent violence that had to be stopped. Armchair quarterback.
- seiga, on 06/09/2009, -3/+1The problem is that the written words aren't typically witty or smart. They're abrasive and petty, particularly when you juxtapose them with the rest of the show, which weaves a broad and real social commentary with smart satire.
I agree that "The Word" would have less purpose without the comments, which is I why I would prefer it be done away with altogether. - buddypriefert, on 06/10/2009, -3/+1Special note for HarrisonBinLaden:
Democrat <> non-conservative.....dumbass. In case you haven't been aware, there are "conservative democrats" in this world. Think before you write and spew hate. Typical liberal. - buddypriefert, on 06/09/2009, -3/+1Big difference between Stewart and Colbert. Yes, the both are on the comedy channel and poke fun at conservatives, but Stewart has a lot of anger/hate in him and Colbert has the talent to not let that get in the way (as many Diggers do).
- CK20XX, on 06/09/2009, -9/+6Victoly. A winner is us.
- buddypriefert, on 06/09/2009, -5/+2special note for overtoke:
Study a little inside info on Colbert. He actually considers himself "conservative" but puts humor above petty differences and "laughs as himself". Did I mention he taught Sunday school for 4 years? - newman328, on 06/09/2009, -6/+3Do you mean "sinfully delicious"?
- seiga, on 06/09/2009, -9/+1I don't like "The Word" because the written comments break the fourth wall and deflate the satirical power of the show.
This episode's was an exception, but I hope they can it altogether. - plhofmei, on 06/09/2009, -13/+4This was in an earlier article on him getting his head shaved. Buried for dupe.
